Of course you are right, I was more about his attitude and how he played Blofeld which didn't change throughout his career. It is like they wanted to hire Yul Brynner and Telly showed up. Not that Charles Gray was a great accomplishment either.Kristatos wrote:...was his catchphrase from the well-known TV series he made five years after starring in OHMSS.Blowfeld wrote:Telly Savalas as Blofeld I always felt was a misstep. I wouldn't be surprised if this Simon Russell Beale is who Craig wants to be M after he murders Dench.

I'm not up to speed with the Craig gossip here. (mainly because I refuse to read anything Craig-related unless it is "CRAIG QUITS AS BOND"oscartheman wrote:I wouldn't be surprised if this Simon Russell Beale is who Craig wants to be M after he murders Dench.

I guess that's where the Craig/Bond connection comes in, via Mendes.Simon Russell Beale, CBE (born 12 January 1961) is an English actor. He has been described as "the greatest stage actor of his generation."
(snip)
In the spring of 2009 Beale and Sam Mendes collaborated on The Winter's Tale and The Cherry Orchard, in which Russell Beale played Leontes and Lopakhin respectively, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, later transferring to the Old Vic Theatre

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Thank you, Kristatos!
Following your example, I went to check, too.
Why is it that every time I see or read something related to Craig I immediately think "that actor is going to be a pouting unattractive guy like him"? I know it's not right of me to do that, but I can't help it. Sam Mendes is not much of a guarantee either. I'm also not entirely sure an actor who has done Shakespeare all his life would even A)want and B)be believable in the role of a super spy chief of operations. This guy is for sure a great actor, but a great actor in the classic sense. I have my doubts he is even interested in doing a movie that isn't one taken from Shakespeare, not to mention he's had zero experience with a type of character that's got nothing to do with all he did so far?

More like a barrel of monkeys if Cr-egg is involved. Leave Steven Segal alone with Broccoli, and FBF will get his wish.Greg Haugen wrote:Bond 23 is certainly shaping up to be a barrel of laughs.

Now about Bond 23. How can they have a director already when they don't have script writers? Because nobody is telling me the Beavis & Butthead duo are actual screen writers, are they? And from what I heard Haggis is not going to be involved anymore?

Haggis
. Enough of him. They need new writers with spy genre experience who know what Bond should be ONCE Cr-egg is gone.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
They do. I elaborated on this in the other thread "Bond 23 by..." I would love to see the Alias original writing crew involved. And possibly some people from "White Collar", too. Good mix of humor and action. Some of the Alias writers now write for Hawaii Five-0 (the remake with Alex O'Loughlin) which is in my opinion BY FAR the best new show of the season. It's got great action and humor. Anyway some of the writers on the show also wrote for Alias, which is my all-time favourite show. They surely would write a much better script for Bond than the crap we got with CR (yes I thought THAT was bad too. Never seen such a BORING Bond movie) and even more so QoS. I asked one of them (Roberto Orci) who is an incredibly nice, funny fella, whether he would write a Bond movie. I'll let you know what he says. And yes I specified... writing a Bond movie AFTER Craig is done. LOL Didn't want him to think I'd punish him by having to write something for a guy that brought the franchise in a direction that really hasn't got much of Bond...bjmdds wrote:Haggis. Enough of him. Yyyaayy! What's not to love? Alex O'Loughlin rocks as McGarrett AND is d**n hot, Scott Caan is just great as Danno and I love the dynamic between him and McGarrett. They've got some of the best dialogue/banter I've seen between cops/spies ever since Alias. (not coincidentally, same writerkatied wrote:Yay,another Hawaii Five 0 fan. That show is about 20 different types of awesome(and makes me want to move to Hawaii!)

Btw, Orci replied to me about writing Bond with "Can you get me that gig?" I'd say he's positive on doing it

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Killers has a Bond vibe to it, for the first half hour. Inception is a Bond homage take the mind bending aspect out and it is the best Bond movie in years. The writers and directors are out there hire one them recast and break the records for the first time sicne Connery was wearing the holster. I think Pierce could have broke all the records but after GoldenEye the Bond team lost sight of what their goal should be, their goal today it is the same since TND all they do is concentrate on making one movie and taking home the payday. Everything that could be considered wrong in the Bond movies since the VTAK is heaped on the last two movies and doubled but the movies lost the trappings that made the Bond world work.
I'd like to see Worthington give Bond a go.

All the new rumours cropping up I am taking the attitude of wait and see, first accomplishment I am waiting on is the MGM bankruptcy to be over and done with. After that and as long as the Lions Gate merger doesn't come up again the script is the next hurdle so to speak. Casting and directors is a distant concern. It is not like they were not making plans be fore they put it all on hold so I can see where they have some room to pick it up where they left it althou I would hope some common sense would enter in to their considerations. They were more manoeuvrable in the past and didn't commit themselves to people as openly. Timothy Dalton in the 1990's we had the same sort of talk of return, not attachment to the directors or writers or studio desperately trying to come up with a 2 year plan. Even if he does some how participate in Bond 23 I don't think Daniel will be there for the next because the schedule will be too demanding, if they get back the Cubby's schedule.

Either way the arrival of the next Bond film with or without Mr.Craig is something Bond fans should be looking forward to.
For those of us that enjoy Craig in the role it's fine.
For those of us who can't wait to see the back of Daniel Craig, it's one step closer to seeing that dream become a reality.
The important part here is the, we need a new Bond film sooner rather than later.
