The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
The New York Times has a loyal following outside of New York because of their writing and coverage of world events, and the arts section.

Sorry to pick just one quote out of such a long review, but this jumped out at me.
Craig's Bond, maybe. Fleming's Bond would be far too well-mannered to do such a thing.James Bond would throw a martini in the face of such a hinterland loser

Swweeney, are you still in New Delhi? Why not fly the wife into Broadway and take in the show?

I'd love to BJ, but I think NY is a bit too far to travel to take in a show.....evn I'm not that obsessed with DC.bjmdds wrote:Swweeney, are you still in New Delhi? Why not fly the wife into Broadway and take in the show?

I found this review in the New York post:
Jackman is marvelous and carries the show. Craig on the other hand has all the acting ability and looks of a leather pouffe. With a moustache.
Bring back Bond!

Plenty like that Carl. These NYC Broadway critics are a strange lot. The play itself is not getting rave reviews as the plot seems a bit depressive. In two weeks time, the fanfare will be over and just like QOS, it probably will be a front loaded entity, except for the star-crossed female groupies who want to see nudity where none exists.

Well, here's an interesting post. I know that katie and I have had our differences, but I just wanted to say kudos to her for this post.katied wrote:It's interesting. Maybe I was.........hold on to your hats.. somewhat wrong about this play and Craig being in it. There.I said it.
Can't have been easy.
Anyway, I thought, credit where credit is due.
Now if I can only get BJ to do something similar...probably got more chance of getting blood from a stone.

Though hope springs eternal.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Here's a copy of the review for A Steady Rain that featured in todays West Australian.
Enjoy...I know I did.
No doubt many a producer would love to pair Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman in a blockbuster action movie - James Bond v Wolverine - but it is Broadway that has grabbed this Hollywood dream team.
And, predictably, the box office has gone nuts. According to the producers of A Steady Rain, the Jackman-Craig pairing has broken the record for the highest weekly gross for a non-musical production on Broadway, raking in a remarkable $US1.1 million ($1.25 million)
That number is set to soar now that reviews are in for A Steady Rain, which opened on Tuesday at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.
While none of the critics regarded Keith Huff's play as anything more than a minor melodrama, the two actors are getting rave reviews for their portrayal of two tough Chicago cops who debate why they have once again been passed over for a promotion.
" . . . this is a taut exercise in Middle American pulp fiction, a gorgeously acted set of monologues about moral ambiguity and a couple of disappointed beat cops in a violent downward spiral of shakedowns, bigotry and enormous self-delusion," writes Newsday's Linda Winner.
Michael Kuchwara, of Associated Press, writes: "Jackman works against his immense likability to invest Denny with an unnerving volatility, an underlying malevolence that threatens to erupt at anytime - and does - in Huff's incident-
stuffed play.
"Craig's Joey, a recovering alcoholic, is a more shaded character, and the actor leaves 007 far behind. Sporting a moustache and wearing a nondescript coat and tie, he brings an affecting, world-weary, defeated-by-life quality to the man.
"He looks perpetually tired. Yet there is an underlying goodness that Craig manages to project without being maudlin or sentimental."
David Usborne, of Britain's Independent, was equally impressed with the way in which the two hunky superstars worked against their own glamorous, hard-bodied big-screen personas.
"The two men inevitably spark a full minute of applause the instant the lights go up but in surprisingly short order these mega-celebrities are eclipsed by their characters," he writes.
"Craig and Jackman use all the sinews of body and voice to pull all this off but rarely will you see two actors do so much with their hands.
"They clench, they point, they show devil horns, they punch and they grab thin air in moments of anger and frustration. There is a whole drama school course in this somewhere."
However, the New York Times' influential Ben Brantley, while praising the actors for their performances, was a little more cynical about the stunt of putting two Hollywood superstars in a minor play.
"A Steady Rain is probably best regarded as a small, wobbly pedestal on which two gods of the screen may stand in order to be worshipped," writes Brantley.
"For the record, both are just fine in their parts, and in the case of Mr Craig, almost unrecognisable with a milquetoast moustache and cowed mien, more than fine.
"But it's hard to avoid thinking that had they chosen to recite the alphabet in counterpoint (which might have been more fun), their joint appearance would still generate ticket sales unknown for a straight play since Julia Roberts appeared in Richard Greenberg's Three Days of Rain three years ago."

Seems the reviews are good, from what I'm reading. Especially for Mr.Craig.

Mate, Craig is unrecognizable in everything he does. Most notably in Bab Broc's movies where he is completely unrecognizable as James Bond
But I wish him well and hope he finds success so he leaves and stops f**king up James Bond. Thankfully the financial crisis might have taken care of the latter concern.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
The critics of the play have a confused image of Daniel Craig. He does not play a glamourous witty Bond or a similar type of character in any of his movies. Therefore this stage role - playing a tired rough looking dour character - is not a million miles away from his morose Bond depiction and his normal character parts. The play is more a depature for Jackman.
