I said it would underperform CR in the USA and at least tie CR internationally. Once I saw it, I thought it would be front loaded hype and be done here in the USA by Christmas. The film had to make money with the cost of ticket prices up 10% over 2006 and twice the number of screenings per day as CR had. THAT is why TBM is an abject failure. With all it had going for it, with Potter out of the way, with the ridiculous number of screenings per day, with 2008 being a stellar year for movie goers, to UNDER perform as it has is a NEGATIVE. Question: has there EVER been a USA debut weekend of $67 million by a film that did not exceed $200 million at its end in the USA? If so, what would that film be? If no, TBM made more history, and NOT good history. Do not fret Craig and reboot lovers. We will all be united if Jackman takes over in 3 years after MGW takes his rest and Broccoli gets over her crush on the aging Craig.
2008 was also the year we saw the biggest global financial crisis since the 1920's hit us too. Just thought I'd add that too BJ to your doom mongering. You seemed to have forgotten that little bit.....

In terms of bums on seats, not financial profit, Craig is as popular as Brozza was after 2 movies. Does anyone here dispute that fact?

Also, Babs loves Craig with a passion, so will look for any excuse, any angle to keep him as Bond for the next picture. Does anyone here disagree with that either?

The percentage of the BO take due to the studio, goes down during a films run, this makes sense as lets say towards the end of a films run, a theatre way be screening a film with only a handful of people in the theatre, therefore if lets say the cinema took $100 for this showing then they would want to give a lot less of this back to the studio, as it would not be economically viable for the theatre to show the film in the first place!!
Yep, it's a high-risk business all over. Exhibitors typically make more money from the concession stand than they do from actually showing movies, especially when showing the big studio pics often comes attached with a raft of conditions. The most extreme example of this was The Phantom Menace, which cinemas were only allowed to show if they upgraded to Lucasfilm and Dolby Laboratories' then-new Dolby Digital Surround EX format, at a cost of $10,000 per auditorium. More commonly, the big tentpole movies are packaged with smaller, less commercial pics that the theater is obliged to show as part of the deal with the distributor. They deserve every penny in my opinion.

No, I agree. Babs loves Daniel Craig and the idea of making a Bond film without him will be unthinkable to her. As much as I'd like Hugh Jackman or anyone to replace him it won't happen. I believe that Daniel Craig will be the one to pull the plug on his Bond tenure, not Eon or the studio, after another one or two films. He's not going to be Roger Moore.

Also, given the collapse of QoS after a big start, especially in the US, Bond 23 is not going to have an endless supply of money thrown at it. Critically and in terms of box-office, it's more than likely that the Daniel Craig era has passed its peak.

bjmdds wrote:It is reported movie's producers keep only up to 55% of the box office revenue in the USA and only 40% internationally. Is this fact? If so, why should the movie theatres keep so much? Isn't 20% enough for them? The producer has all the expense, including advertising and marketing in addition to the film production as well. Why should the theatre owners keep 45-60%?
As Kristatos said theater owners at a lot of risk and have s lot of overhead. You know those pimply prepubescents taking up tickets .
They also have films they have to take (a sales lemon) in turn for getting a potential blockbuster.

Code: Select all

Fun With Numbers
Worldwide 367m 60% theater take 220m = Take home 147m
US 158m 45% theater take 71m = Take home 87m
Quark total take home 234m

Also the DVD sales and rentals aren't straight up profit either. They don't see $20 for every DVD sold.

Theatre counts in the USA dropping another 761 this weekend for TBM. Fewer theatres now than Madagascar 2 as well. Prior to Chiristmas, the theatres are cutting way down on Craig's 'egg'. Does not bode well for Eon. In Manhattan, at $12.50 per ticket, it opened with 21 showings per day. This saturday, 3 total, 12:00 pm noon, 6:00pm, and 12:00am midnight! D-O-N-E!..... The Oscars with Jackman await.

Any Green Hornet fans out there like me? It has come to my attention that a film is in the works. Being an avid Bruce Lee fan I enjoy watching The Green Hornet on cable tv. Supposedly a 46 year old Stephen Chow will play Kato and a 26 year old Seth Rogen will be the Green Hornet. Talk about miscasting Bond with Craig. Rogen as the Green Hornet is a joke and a 46 year old as Kato? Another chance wasted I am afraid. These studios are CLUELESS, as was Eon, to pick odd choices to play iconic roles, CLUELESS. :x

TBM devastatingly dropped to number 10 in the USA Friday with an abysmal $565,000 taken in. My friends, we were right, the critics even agreed, The Bourne Mimicry is a bust and DONE everywhere, except in Japan. It will be out the top 10 next week and out of our minds as well. Bring on Jackman, for this pile of garbage helmed by 2 morons who are clueless with their 'daddy's' company have run this franchise into the ground. Even hearing Craig speak of HIS thoughts on The Bond Ultimatum(Bond 23) is ridiculous. His input, his thoughts, his ideas, and his direction for the franchise have NO weight for he has NO clue who James Bond was, and what he has transformed him into is a parody of other genres. Get rid of this missing link between Connery and Jackman and restore the franchise to it's greatness. The Bourne Mimicry will NOT do as well as CR did, even straight up, without inflation factored in, with higher ticket prices, and with twice as many screenings per day. Eon is headed for a loss on this canned trash and they deserve it being so arrogant as to pawn off this Bourne rip off as Bond and think the public would buy into it.

While Quantum Of Solace isn't going to end up as successful as Casino Royale, it's no Cutthroat Island. Bond 23 with Daniel Craig is going to happen.

As a producer you don't just dump your lead actor when your film has made half a billion dollars, you simply take better care of your money for the next film. Most of Hollywood would kill for that. So while disappointing it may be compared to the last film, it still guarantees' Craig's future in the role. So here's to the third film with Daniel Craig likely to come in 2011.
