Absoloutely.

Yes, i agree, that at the end of the day the important thing is that the Bond films are well made and are enjoyable.

Unfortunately, after the first viewing of QOS, i left the theatre totally underwhelmed by the experience.
I don't think i've ever been bored by a Bond film before........what a shame!
In fact i've had more fun trying to embalm myself! :D

I still can't believe how poorly QOS was filmed and edited, oh and the sound quality was poor, how many people could understand some of the mumbling dialogue.............in fact someone wrote that upto now Bond films had been director proof, but not any more.............and sadly i read a forum post where someone said they wanted to murder the editors in front of their families......blimey!

I may see QOS one more time, but on the first 2 viewings, i can honestly say that i would have to rank the film near the bottom of the Bond films.

I can see what the producers were trying to achieve...........but they made the wrong move in some key departments of the film, i.e. director and second unit director, and the result was a mess.

All in all, after the enjoyable film that was CR, i think the producers tried to fix the franchise when it didn't need fixing!!!(well some here may add DC to that as well :D )

You are right about the franchise not needing fixing. Tell that to Brosnan. Congrats on your birthday too. You and I both came from the origin Bond films of the 1960s madness and it was incredible then. Who would have ever believed that in 2008 Bond would be a dull entity in a film?

At $424 million internationally and $131 million in the UK for Mamma Mia, TBM has a way to top that. Why was it so popular in the UK, outdoing both Potter and Bond films?

It became a camp cult thing very quickly here with gangs of women going to multiple screenings to sing along. My local cinema had it on for about three months but pulled QoS after two weeks. Not my cup of tea but there you go.

I think Brosnan's fine singing voice was another factor in it doing so well. :|

I do know that Babs Broc had wanted to get rid of Brozza much earlier, the studio (MGM) leaked it to test the waters. The Brozza estrogen brigade responded quickly and MGM saw no percentage in replacing him. In fact MGM refused Craig for the role (several times I think), it was not until after Sony bailed them out and Sony came to the helm that Craig was cast. However Sony was not enthused about Craig and required a 24 screen test process after they couldn't convince Babs to go with a more appropriate choice. Sony heads wanted someone else and a few times talked to Brozza about coming back. Once it was done they had no choice but to put there all behind it and of course no dissenting voice would be tolerated (or remembered) in there new happy idealistic nuclear family.
This would explain why Craig was strongly linked to the role early in 2005 then said in interviews a few months later that he was out of the running (and joking about it) before emerging again later in the year to be screentested agaisnt a bunch of 17 year-olds and cast as Bond only a few months before the film started shooting.
Also helps clear up Dame Judi's saying Pierce was coming back as well as Barbara's comments to the crew from about the same time.

One piece of good news for QOS.........its just become the highest grossing film in Germany this year, ousting Mamma Mia.

QOS running total some $35 mil+.............mind you it won't reach the heights of CR and its $50 mil+ there.

I like ABBA and their music, put didnt have any desire to see the film, and dont know many who have seen it!
There must of been a large group of the population who saw the film on many viewings to of reached its massive total.

I just saw that as well............yes its below par, and if i'am right from memory, i believe CR and DAD were still doing $1 mil a day for the same time period.........and Monday is usually the strongest of the MON-THURS time period.

I AM surprised at 2 things:1)opening weekend topping $60+ million and 2)Last Friday doing almost the same as the prior Friday, at around $8 million, but the Holiday had a lot to do with this. Do you believe that mostly people over 23 are going to see this or are there tons of teenagers unaccounted for who never knew of the Connery/Moore era?
