Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
In a shocking move, CBS is ending “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” next year, and apparently exiting the late-night television business altogether. The network, citing financial pressures, said the cancellation will take effect in May 2026, the normal end of the broadcast TV season......finally removing this unfunny clown from polluting the airways and Kimmel will be next.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Fun is NOT what Colbert brings. His show lost $40 MILLION per year! It is VITRIOL nightly as is Seth Meyers nightly on NBC. Johnny Carson did it best and made fun of ALL politicians and he was a closet liberal to boot. Colbert and Kimmel have an agenda on public airways. Chris Hayes is an insignificant morsel in our culture with no audience nightly on the soon to be broken up MSNBC. Free society? Where is the counter on federally funded PBS and NPR in a free society? It did not exist and was finally done away with support yesterday.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, who surprised the film world and 007 fans by stepping away from the franchise earlier this year, has endorsed the choice of Denis Villeneuve as director for the next installment of the spy thriller. “He’s a fantastic filmmaker, I’m thrilled he’s going to be doing it,” Broccoli said an interview with UK film critic Mark Kermode for his podcast Kermode on Film. It marked Broccoli’s first comment on Villeneuve’s signing as director for the next James Bond film for Amazon MGM Studios, since it was announced on June 25. Broccoli was on Kermode’s show to promote a production of the stage musical adaptation of Sing Street, which she is producing and has recently opened at the Lyric Hammersmith theater in London.Pressed by Kermode on whether she was “removed” or would be “hands on” on the new James Bond film, Broccoli suggested she had moved on completely. “You know, I did it for 44 years and I loved every minute of it, but I’m getting up there now and there’s a lot of things I want to do… like this beautiful musical,” she said. “I’m doing a lot of other things. I have other movies I want to make and other stage shows.” https://deadline.com/2025/07/barbara-br ... 236460983/

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Her long lost love cost her the franchise she never really wanted nor respected any way and sold out for her half of the $1 billion buyout to shut the hell up and get lost already from Bezos. Broccoli was not at his wedding.

Villeneuve was apparently in talks to direct NTTD. Coupled with the fact that he lists his favourite Bond films as Casino Royale and Skyfall, it doesn't give me much hope that this new era will represent a significant change in tone for the series.

According to new odds from Heart Bingo, it's thought that Dua Lipa's fiancé Callum Turner is being lined up as the next 007. The actor claimed the highest share of positive posts with regards to becoming the next Bond. Following his lead are stars James Norton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Mescal and former Superman Henry Cavill. Sarah Caskie, Head of Brand for online website Heart Bingo, said: “With the rumour mill surrounding the next James Bond continuing to turn following the announcement Amazon will be taking the reins with the franchise, we’ve turned to public opinion to find the best fit for the 007 role."
“The masses have spoken on X and we’ve collated the data to find that Callum Turner is the people’s choice to replace Daniel Craig, with 63% of posts concerning his potential role in the next film being positive, while 0% were negative."
“Henry Cavill’s 34% positivity put him second in the eyes of the public, but 3% didn’t seem too keen on him being the next Bond."

Oh, I guess I miscalculated (maths was never my strong subject). Possible, then, though I still think it will probaably be one of the names on the Amazon shortlist. I read an article saying that Harris Dickinson was the most likely, since Tom Holland is too associated with Spiderman and Jacob Elordi tends to pick smaller indie films. That sounds like a plausible argument to me, more so than bookies' odds, anyway.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the orange one didn’t ask for Colbert to be fired and cbs obliged . However I think cbs probably didn’t like him mocking the heads of the company.Kristatos wrote:Hmm....

Honestly I don’t think he lived up to David Letterman‘s legacy, actors and politicians, crying now had a free ride because of Colbert‘s bias. That’s fine but it didn’t really add anything to the public discussion. Late night isn’t really necessary anymore, the world moved to podcast. That’s where these discussions and comedies and upcoming comedians are happening.

Yeah, I think that probably had more to do with it. The announcement came two days after he had done a routine mocking Paramount for its out of court settlement.Omega wrote: I wouldn’t be surprised if the orange one didn’t ask for Colbert to be fired and cbs obliged . It could all be the merger/sale , I think it was motortrend sale where all of the shows were canceled and most of the divisions were purged. It comes out later that it was terms the buyers required. They wanted to clean house but not be seen as the ones doing it, to make the deal the current leadership (before the sale) axed just about everybody.
However re colbert I’ll add that it can appear political and maybe it is to some extent. Still I think late night talk shows are a thing of past.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
You're probably right, but the timing seems suspicious. If I were them, I would have waited a bit before making that announcement, given that Colbert still has 10 months left to run on his contract. It feels like a warning shot aimed at anyone else who might criticise them.Omega wrote:Still I think late night talk shows are a thing of past.
