I'm just excited that we've got a director at last, sooner than I was expecting. The script comes next, then the announcement of the new Bond. Looks like BJ's prediction of an announcement by the end of the summer is a distinct possibility, though my gut tells me that early autumn is more likely.

Denis Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond film, Amazon MGM Studios has revealed, with Tanya Lapointe signing on as an executive producer. As previously announced, Amy Pascal and David Heyman will serve as producers.

“Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since ‘Dr. No’ with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory,” Villeneuve said. “I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.”-------look what we have in just 2 short months of Broccoli out! There are 4 hirings already and the film will be on track for a 2027 release. This proves that Broccoli killing off HER Bond was the end of her involvement in the franchise. The witch said it would take her 2 years just to decide where she wanted to take Bond next! BULL! She had NO intention of doing anything going forward and once she disparaged Amazon openly Bezos acted and he had enough. There will be a new Bond film every 3 years now with Amazon. The new director CLAIMS be be an AVID Bond fan. Let us hope so. If they choose ATJ as the kid-Bond, that will be a setback while there are SEVERAL much better choices. We shall see. Naming the next Bond will come SOONER than later now.

My only reservation about Villeneuve is that he seems a bit too much like the sort of director who might have been hired during the Craig era. I was hoping for someone like Edgar Wright, who might have changed the tone a bit.

I do not think Bond's family tree will explored any longer nor even a hint of any child, that is why the early Bond years is being mentioned.

They will probably ditch the soap opera stuff, but the tone will probably be similar to the Craig films. I was hoping that the new era would see a return to a lighter tone, with more humour etc. Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 were good films, but didn't contain many laughs.

Villenuve works for me but can see why the fanboys elsewhere have(something) of an issue with it.

Pascal should NOT be in touch with Broccoli about who to cast now for the Bond role. I hope Bezos told everyone to stay clear of Broccoli as she is just an expensive silent partner now. I hope there will not be any WOKE castings nor a hint of it in the plot being written now as well. Just do an espionage film with action and gadgets.

If we get toddler Bond(AKA ATJ) we’ll know that’s probably the truth.

I too am praying that they get the casting right. I'm not going to speculate on who it might be, though, because it's still all just unfounded rumours at this point. Villeneuve doesn't appear to be one of those directors like Tim Burton or James Gunn who has a "repertory company" of actors who he uses regularly, so there's no obvious frontrunner. Saying Timothee Chalamet because he starred in Dune is just lazy tabloid logic.

(My opinion on ATJ remains the same - he's not my favourite, but I wouldn't be too unhappy if it turned out to be him.)

Variety, generally regarded as a reliable source, is reporting that Amazon has a shortlist. But note that the story contains the dreaded words "Amazon declined to comment". None of the choices particularly jump out at me, but none of them make me think "please, God, no" either. They all seem a bit vanilla, though.

ImageGet lost with these 3 children. Broccoli's emotional Bond was bad enough but now exploring Bond as a 20 something prior to being in MI:6 most likely? Spiderman cannot be Bond as it is amazing he is Spiderman looking like a punk scrawny kid. Pascal has lost her mind! It is so obvious what needs to be done yet these idiots are remaining clueless. Who needs a baby Bond? Compare those 3 KIDS to this gem: Image Image

Well, they have been saying for some time that they want an actor who can stay on for 10-15 years and not look as decrepit at the end as Craggy did. So casting a ~30-year-old makes sense. The problem for me is that none of them looks convincing as a cold-blooded killer. But whoever is cast, I will give them a chance, as I did with Craig initially.

Severe Radiology Workforce Shortages: A 2023 report by the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) warned of “dangerous shortages” of doctors essential for diagnosing and treating serious conditions, including cancer and stroke. The report found that in 2023, 745,290 patients in England waited more than 4 weeks for imaging test results following scans. Workforce shortages were a major factor, with a 30% shortfall in clinical radiology consultants. Without intervention, the college forecast this gap would reach 40% by 2028!

I think he was mentioned during Babs hiatus from working on production leading up to her being bought out.

I like a lot of his films and styles . I didn’t like his casting on dune. Now some of his choices for special effects and use of location, lighting, and camera angles truly made Arrakis feel alien , foreign , like a real place.

Honestly the best adaptation of dune is still the sci-fi mini series over 20 years ago .

He might be the wrong fit for bond, however Christopher Nolan who also adores bond makes so interesting choices in camera use and use of sound while I like him a lot as director I’m making to think nolan wouldn’t be a good bond director.

I’m optimistic, not convince this new production team can pull it off, but I want them to succeed.

But I believe Nolan wanted final cut, and to be signed for multiple movies, which neither EON nor Amazon were willing to grant.

Following the announcement earlier this week that Dune and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve has been tasked with directing the next Bond movie, reports reveal that he won't have the final say on what makes it to theaters. The news comes from Puck, who also confirmed that the top-secret signing of the revered filmmaker is currently only a one-time deal.

Paul Tassi of Forbes Magazine: It's really no offense to these guys, but I’m really against this whole idea of a very young James Bond when there are so, so many other older actors who seem perfect for the part. Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Taron Egerton, Richard Madden, Robert Pattinson, Aaron Pierre. The list goes on. The one bright spot here is that whoever the lead is will be working under Denis Villeneuve, who I am confident is going to be able to make anything work. But we know he will not have final cut on the movie, and this idea of a younger Bond reeks of Amazon trying to do a “fresh” take on a character to appeal to a younger crowd for a character that should not be reshaped just to be “trendy.” If this is the start of Amazon having a heavy hand here, I’m not sure how much I believe in the future of the Bond franchise.
