Same here.I liked Galaxy Quest.
I could swear that the plot of Cowboys and Aliens is very similar to several other movies.
Re: Will Daniel Craig's 'Cowboy' adventure delay Bond 23?
The only other sci-fi western I can think of is Wild Wild West, which I enjoyed, but which wasn't a box office hit. If even Will Smith can't pull in the punters to that genre, I can't imagine them flocking to see DC.katied wrote:I could swear that the plot of Cowboys and Aliens is very similar to several other movies.

This is another DC film I won't be bothered about seeing. Why can't he choose something decent for a change, like a McQueen biopic, or even a cool McQueen type role like Bullitt - instead of this kind of garbage all the time....
Either his agent has really no idea, or Craig has a perversion for picking such strange roles.

He has stars in his eyes in the old fashion sense. Meaning he is a dreamer and thinks any ol crap will work as long as it is done by Hollywood. There has got to be something innate to his makeup that makes him jump at odd ball rolls/concepts. I heard something about him seeking the roll out before RDJ had officially had to bowed out. Don't know if it is true but it wouldn't be that be unusual. The Sweeney wrote:This is another DC film I won't be bothered about seeing. Will Smith couldn't save a similar concept movie which was done by the MIB team 10 years ago, my gut tells me this might have an interesting trailer or two but it will fizzle in the theaters. Craig's name will not be a factor.

WW West is the one I was thinking of..IIRC it got panned. The marriage of Western and Sci fi is not usually a profitable one. Which could spell disaster for Cowboys and Aliens. The only other sci-fi western I can think of is Wild Wild West, which I enjoyed, but which wasn't a box office hit. If even Will Smith can't pull in the punters to that genre, I can't imagine them flocking to see DC.

Well alot of people wrote off CR before it came out, and look what happened there.oscartheman wrote:I agreekatied wrote:WW West is the one I was thinking of..IIRC it got panned. Though I do agree the marriage of sci-fi and western is usually a rocky and often bad one, it's not over till the fat lady sings.
Though if you were a betting man, you might say 'tell the fat lady she's on in five'.
Re: Will Daniel Craig's 'Cowboy' adventure delay Bond 23?
A better example might be the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, since that was working in a dead genre, where previous attempts to revive it had all tanked (Pirates!, Cutthroat island etc). So it might succeed, but the odds are against it.Captain Nash wrote:Well alot of people wrote off CR before it came out, and look what happened there.

Concerning Sci-fi/Western mixes, Firefly and Serenity are the prime example of how to blend in the two genres and make it fun. If this flick comes close, I'm all for it.
Granted, Firefly got canceled after 14 episodes and Serenity was a box office bomb, but I don't give a d**n, as long as they're enjoyable I'm perfectly satisfied

Firefly was a space post Civil War western and this is Cowboys and Aliens. Seems the idea is better suited in a graphic novel.stockslivevan wrote:Concerning Sci-fi/Western mixes, Firefly and Serenity are the prime example of how to blend in the two genres and make it fun. Maybe it will work but it just seems dumb. Way wasted $12 on this when Pirates of the Caribbean: 4, Transformers 3, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II will be out.
I think the story is a bad idea despite the lead actor.

Like I said, if they could pull it off. A lot of sub-generes of Sci-Fi don't seem to work quite well when it comes to live action. Most of all that stuff you'll find are in anime.

A SyFy series might be cool.stockslivevan wrote:Like I said, if they could pull it off. A lot of sub-generes of Sci-Fi don't seem to work quite well when it comes to live action. Most of all that stuff you'll find are in anime.

Ugh, I hate their new name "Syfy".
The only good show they've got out now is Caprica.

SyFy is great if you like bad movies that're ripoffs of blockbusters. They show Bond films occasionally. Not the good ones.

The marathon think used to be SpikeTV's thing. I can kinda see how some of the movies might have enough of a sci fi plot that they fit on SyFy. BBC America shows a lot of Bond films but it tends to be the earlier, Connery/Lazenby era.
Re: Will Daniel Craig's 'Cowboy' adventure delay Bond 23?
Yes, they show them digitally remastered and in their original aspect ratio too, IIRC.katied wrote:The marathon think used to be SpikeTV's thing. I heard on the radio that Harrison Ford will be in this movie. I kinda though wow at first, then I thought about it and I can't remember Harrison Ford's last good movie. It wasn't indy 4 that is for sure.
