The family that controls the James Bond movie franchise reportedly refuses to give Amazon the go-ahead to make another film due to serious disagreements over the direction of the series — including one proposal for a TV spinoff centered on a female 007. Barbara Broccoli — the 64-year-old daughter of the late Queens native Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, the film producer who acquired the rights to the famed spy created by British novelist Ian Fleming — has been at odds with Amazon execs ever since the e-retail giant acquired Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studio for $8.5 billion in March 2022, according to the Wall Street Journal. Her dissatisfaction with Amazon has reached the point where she is willing to hold the film “hostage” and delay the release of a new Bond sequel, the Journal reported.

“These people are f–king idiots,” Broccoli reportedly told friends when describing executives at Amazon.........Broccoli shot down the idea of a female Bond, though she’s not opposed to having a gay or nonwhite actor star in the role, according to the Journal. She does insist that whoever fills his shoes is a Brit........Mike Hopkins, who heads the Prime Video business, has reportedly told associates he is confident he can win Broccoli’s trust...........so now she is attempting to come across as the guardian of the franchise when she has done so much to ruin it. She feels slighted by the executives because she is accustomed to being in charge and that is no longer the case.

I have no doubt she leaked this to a "conservative" news outlet instead of the Hollywood trades to get a more sympathetic audience. Give her credit that she is triangulating to make her look like the rationale one after she made Blofeld Bond step brother and killed Bond.

Correctamundo Jason! Broccoli wrecked the storylines and now wants to be the rational one. Her delays have more to do with Cr-egg's departure than anything else. She is no longer motivated and wants to use any tactics to justify her dragging her feet to do something but I cannot see Bezos & company allowing this to continue. A new Bond should have been waiting in the wings but having her kill off HER creation boy toy may have ended it for her once and for all.

Actually Babs doesn’t think bond is a hero either . Early days of cr promotion she and Craig said bond is the man you live to hate.

She didn’t want to work with Amazon from before they bought mgm. With a leaked story I forget where.
She already had a female 007 , Babs tried to make a spin off series with jinx and then Moneypenny .

Far as casting choices She is the one who said Hugh Jackman was too fey. The wolverine would’ve been fine as bond fey or not.


This is her temper tantrum over not liking her new partners.

What she said about the contract is correct only for movies, if bond is not a movie series she doesn’t have final say on casting . Which was the only thing she had final say on from the original contract when Saltzman sold out.

Imho the game show must have pissed her off because Amazon forced her out to promote it .

People for get eon is only a production company run by the broccoli family , danjaq is the rights holders for bond split evenly between the broccoli family and Amazon. However, Amazon also owns the rights to casino Royale andThunderball. So Amazon owns the rights to two movies they could build a franchise on without her.

Odd fact ;If MGM would’ve went bankrupt, the rights were gone reverted to the saltzman family. There’s no chance of Amazon going bankrupt and losing the rights. And if she had wanted to keep her partners in mgm making the d**n movies on time and under budget would have gone a long way towards keeping them solvent. Bond movies in 2004 and 2010, 2018 could have kept mgm afloat.

Babs never wanted to work with Amazon. She leaked a story against them before they bought MGM and now she’s leaking stories not through Hollywood but through other media which suggest Hollywood isn’t as sympathetic to her and she’d like them to be.

Babs is a failure as a producer. She hasn’t actually worked in making a new bond movie since 2019, 2020-2021 were reshoots because the screen tests were bad and covid changed the market place. When bond did release is didn’t save cinema as the spin said (Spider-Man no way home would do that) , nttd underperformed in key market and over preformed just enough in England and Germany to look better.

Basically this is Babs publicly starting a fight hoping public sentiment will be with her and not the oligarchs over Amazon. She’s slinging mud many of the ideas she herself has already done trying to say they are poison for the bond brand.
However not actually doing anything herself to creat the next movie. She’d have a much better case us she had a script/plot , lead actor and director chosen, then she could point to proof of her concept and d**n Amazon for wanting something ljke the rock and Ryan Reynolds to team up on bond.

Even if Amazon executives are batshit insane, which they could be, it’s common to bounce outrageous ideas to get a reaction from the other side when negotiating to settle in something reasonable. Sounds to me like Babs doesn’t want to play ball.

You know what cubby would have done? He would hope on that Amazon jet fly the world put a movie together faster than they know what to do with so they couldn’t object and bleed Amazon dry.
And Amazon would do it, if cubby could put the movie together without them having to be to involved it’d be great for them, Amazon would just cash the checks as they come in.

Babs sits in her corner sulking. She rode the wave of movies to the ground and missed the idea of the start up of the streaming age Netflix offered her stupid money for no time to die. She should’ve taken that as a Hint the world had changed drastically.

Let me say i do not think the Amazon movie wing has their s**t together, lord of the ring series I’m not a fan of. Some of their other offerings are so so but most studios are the same with mixed offerings. I do think the reason Hollywood will not touch the story is Amazon has gained some goodwill and is in a give-and-take with the movie industry to work with them. More so than with netfilx or others.


Is Amazon a good home for bond? Probably not, but then by the same token Babs is not a good producer for bond either.

We’re not stuck it’s not a stalemate. Babs just sucks at negotiating when she doesn’t hold all the cards.

'Reviews for Queer have been incredibly positive, with the film expected to be nominated for multiple Oscars. However, the movie has been banned in Turkey by authorities, who claim it is "too provocative" for public release'..........that is what was written by Screenrant.com.........typical Hollywood hype over nothing as usual....Cr-egg's crowning role he probably embraces more than the Bond role.......after 4 weekends it is struggling to surpass $3 million WORLDWIDE and this film, which FEW in the world has even seen, will be nominated for MULTIPLE Academy awards? It is so obvious what goes on in Hollywood and what agendas are pushed while the majority of the planet could not care less about.

Well said she gave us female agent 007 already! She gave the story to WSJ because it is a conservative outlet and would be sympathetic. She loves all her limousine liberal outlets until she needs to cover her butt. If you think about it in the States the political environment has changed (Thank God) and Hollyweird brand of woke is on the wane. This leak plays better now but she acquiesced to woke when it would get her applausel from .the mob. Pretty cynical play from her.

They added that both parties are at further odds over how they operate, with Amazon's programming division working at a 'slower pace', while Broccoli's approach is a more traditional 'gut instinct' method.........Broccoli has more fully taken the reins of the franchise as her 82-year-old brother nears retirement. She is clearly content with holding the character 'hostage' refusing to develop any new films under Amazon. She is said to hold a 'den mother authority' over much of the franchise, which she inherited from her father more than three decades ago. Broccoli did insist that Amazon commit to theatrical releases, and her Eon Productions company retains full creative control over the franchise.........Jennifer Salke from Amazon is butting heads with the green vegetable and this this Broccoli's worst nightmare now and her public enemy #1:

That's the problem, that Babz is content to sit on her hands. It's been quite obvious she doesn't want to make Bond films any more and thinks she can branch out with other fare, her track record says otherwise. If Babz actually did care about the series and was truly passionate about making these films she would be fighting in the trenches to bring her vision to life rather than simply taking her proverbial ball and going home, quite possibly to never be seen again.

It will be interesting to see Amazon's tact they take on how they respond to Barbara's leaks. If I'm Amazon, I leak out that they want to cast Cavill and Eon wants to cast.... say ...Josh O'Connor. It would capture back the narrative and expose her nonsense IMO.

I'm on the mend, but it will probably be a while before I get to go home. I dread to think how many spam posts I'll have to delete when I get back to my laptop.

Feel better. I have been hearing more and more about pneumonia cases recently and it is no joke. Some are COVID related. Some are RSV related. Close contact in cold weather now is spreading this.
