I am not interested in any movie critic's opinion because they are all of the same 'artsy' mindset. Bond should be a fun and escapism experience, not a pathologically induced nightmare by EON. If the critics hate the Connery style era, to hell with them because THAT IS what Bond should be all about.
Amen brother, amen!
I type that watching DAF, not Connery's best, but light years ahead of any of Craig's trash!

"And it has a villain who immediately enters the pantheon, both for the way the role is written and for the way it’s played"
You mean Blofeld? The character who's been in the pantheon for over 50 years? Yeah I can see how he would instantly enter it, since he's already there, Nit Wit! And the fact they tacked on the oldest and most ridiculous Soap Opera trope is of no consequence ether? As far as Waltz' performance I can't think of a more bland, vanilla performance, not just for Waltz but ever. He was sleep walking right though the film. (Can't say I blame him, with this script, I'd want to pretend it was all a bad dream too) For a "professional" critic to gloss right over those two gaping holes is inexcusable! Not to mention all the other misplaced praise this philistine heaps on top! Shameful!
Waltz did what actors do when they simply don't trust or like the script-they tune out and display an air of being above it all-and plus,he is right next to Mendes when it comes to Bond.To them real Bond movies are too cartoonish and he agreed to it because now it's all deep and serious and bla bla bla...*excuse me while throwing up*

bjmdds wrote:Dear Mick LaSalle: I find Daniel Craig too thuggish a Bond for my tastes. He lacks suaveness and the epicurean’s delight in sensual pleasure that Sean Connery created with a twinkle in his eye. Craig’s eyes are steely, and when he wears a tux, he looks like a bulldog with a chain around its neck. There’s no whimsical mischief — he’s a gloomy Bond.
Neil Silverman, San Jose
Dear Neil Silverman: Interesting. Your description of Craig is largely accurate (except for the part about his lacking mischief), but a lot of what you see as flaws, I like. Craig’s blue-eyed stare is one of the coldest in the world, second only to Vladimir Putin’s, and he does look like a bulldog in a tuxedo, but to me that harks back to Sean Connery.
Mr. LaSalle is demonstrating the definition of the "Bond fan who doesn't like Bond". "I like Criag because he is everything Bond isn't". "All those things that encapsulate Bond, Craig has none and comes off as a thug, PERFECT!" Its perfectly fine not to like Bond, but to say a man who embodies none of what the character was constructed to radiate is a "great Bond" is delusional! For instance, Vladimir Putin should never be uttered in a Bond description!
As to Connery, who wore nothing but bespoke clothing in his Bond tenure as invoking the same "bulldog look" as Craig, I thing Mr. LaSalle has been watching the wrong movies, or has no clue about men's clothing, or both!
If looking like a buldog in a tuxedo harks back to Sean Connery...I mean is this man blind?!
There is nothing more delusional than people comparing Craig to Connery.
Having 100% of charisma is not the same as having none of it!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens took in an estimated $14.1 million from 12 overseas markets on Wednesday. France was responsible for $5.2 million of the film's overall total gross on Wednesday (which nearly doubled the opening day performance of Jurassic World in France), while the film took in $2.0 million in Italy. It should be noted that there were no midnight screenings as part of the film's opening day overseas launch..........maybe someone can 'awaken' Broccoli's brain

Can't wait for Star Wars. I was 6 years old when the Original Recipe came out. I have a oddly visceral reaction when I hear the theme music.Anyone else?

Well, according to Trolly (or whoever) over on AJB, it'll be a flash in the pan, and once everyone realises how much awesomer SPECTRE is, they'll all go back to seeing that 27 times instead.

Deadline.com: After taking $14.1M on its ts opening day in 12 markets on Wednesday, The Force Awakens went into light speed in the UK on Thursday with an estimated £9.6M — that’s $14.3M in one day and one market alone. This beats all previous comers to post the biggest opening day of all time in Britain, and the biggest single day in local industry history. Midnight showings were worth £2.4M ($3.6M), blasting all records. Putting this in some perspective, Spectre recently bowed to $6.4M in Monday previews, after starting showings at 8:15PM local. Its first full day in late October was a Tuesday and banked $9.2M. The top-grossing movie ever in the UK, Skyfall, had a Friday opening day of £6.2M in 2012. As recently as early this week, we were hearing predictions of a £31M ($46.3M) SWTFA debut UK frame, but local sources have upped that to a range of £34M-£43M ($50.8M-$64.2M). Spectre‘s FSS was £20.4M ($31.2M); Skyfall‘s was £20.1M ($31M in today’s dollars).-------so much for Cr-egg dominating the UK all time records.
The Force is unstoppable. Per Variety, Star Wars: The Force Awakens made an estimated $50 million to $55 million in the United States on Thursday night, thus smashing the previous one-day box office record for a Thursday night opening. Previously, the record for biggest Thursday night opening was held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which raked in $43.5 million on its Thursday opening in 2011. Additionally, The Force Awakens has already sold $100 million worth of advance tickets, which means it’s made back half of its $200 million budget. NYC theatre last night in Kips Bay. even in the small towns near me people lined up to see the new Star Wars . It pre sold more then enough to take first place in the uk and USA . Being a cheerleader for Craig thinking don't worry this people will come back to Craig once they realize Star Wars is not all that is well beyond koolaid .
The only thing that makes me think there is a limit to star wars bo is that it passes a 2011 movies last record but not so much it is insurmountable .

it is about to suck all the oxygen out of the room for any other movie still playing. The only high spot may be over flow for people who can't get the Star Wars showing.
In my small town we have maybe 18k population the local theater is projecting 800 to 900 people for the weekend and say it's already sold out .
I might not get to go if it's true . Or maybe we'll go to a bigger town to see it

Saw Episode 7 last night. Better than the prequels of course. Same level as the originals, maybe a little higher. In a way, the sequels are just getting started.

I went to my small local cinema to see it. There was only about 30 people in it as the owner said he had not advertised as he had some encryption problems (not sure what that means) for the opening night of Spectre and did not want a repeat of the problem.
