rte.ie/ten/news::Mixed reviews for new Bond film Spectre: The first screening of the eagerly awaited new James Bond film, Spectre took place in London last night and despite some lavish praise, the reviews from the audience were decidedly mixed. Others in attendance were less enthusiastic.
Press Association film critic Damon Smith said: "From Skyfall to crestfallen. It was one anticlimax to another although it was beautifully shot.", while Darryl Smith from Scotland's Sunday Post called it "lacklustre".
Hollywood Reporter said it "ultimately feels like a lesser film than Skyfall, falling back on cliche and convention", Variety said that "what’s missing is the unexpected emotional urgency of Skyfall as the film sustains its predecessor’s nostalgia kick".

Blimey, didnt know FBF was getting that distressed over Spectre!
At this present moment in the UK the media has gone berserk over Spectre coverage......its everywhere........coz i'am trying not to find out too much about the film!
Its strange how lately the Bond films have had very long running times............with the exception of QOS (well that was barely a film of any sort was it?).
I remember the days when most Bond films were cut to run at roughly 2 hours.........and in doing so it meant that some films such as DAF had scenes cut, which if had been left in, would of made the plot more sensible.
I mean even CR would of been a good film if after 2 hours and Le Chiffres death the film had ended there................but then they added another whole slow moving 1/2 hr segment in Venice to the story.
Mind you i imagine most here would of liked the entire Craig era edited down to 0 minutes
.............just joking!
Regarding the new SW film, havnt been following the news of it......but will definitely go and see it..............and its sure to have probably the biggest opening BO ever!

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Yes, it's the same old garbage after nine years and four films later. The writing and tone of the Craig era has been all over the place. If it wasn't obvious by Quantum Of Solace that this reboot was poorly planned, it should be glaringly obvious now. The producers were all too quick to get aboard the reboot bandwagon.Daltonite Toothpaste wrote:Hasn't that een the case at the end of each film? The less said about the "How James became Bond" trailers of CR, the better. The Saint 007 wrote:Someone on MI6 made this comment in regards to the title sequence: "It's like a sorta Daniel Craig softcore porn film involving an octopus and loads of fire. Like I said it's mega weird and not entirely successful."Capt. Sir Dominic Flandry wrote:But like the title of Sam Smith’s dismally bland ballad Writing’s On The Wall that plays over the laughable opening credits sequence
I've also noticed quite a few reviewers are keeping up the comically redundant tradition of deeming Spectre as the film where Craig finally becomes the James Bond we know and love.

Oliver Lyttelton | The Playlist: But the massive, movie-breaking problem? Story. Plot holes might be forgivable in a Bond movie (even ones of the gaping, you-could-drive-a-truck-through-it size we get here), but they stand out more when you’re mistaking mystery for actual story, with Bond on a quest that jumps from set piece to set piece rather than building up to something more compelling. By the time Waltz enters the game late in the third act (spoiler: he’s giving the same performance he always does), you keep waiting for some kind of unexpected twist, reversal, or even a moment that makes you feel any kind of suspense. But while press has been asked to keep the film’s surprises under wraps ahead of release, the biggest surprise to me, was that there weren’t any. In general, this feels like a film patched together out of endless hastily-drafted script rewrites rather than a cohesive vision.

Hey U Guys:
Suffering in a similar vein to Quantum of Solace, which followed on (in a narrative sense) to the preceding Casino Royale – Spectre isn’t as accomplished a feature as Skyfall was, and perhaps should have avoided connecting up to what came before, which tends not to work well in Bond, generally better when left as entirely unique, self-contained pictures. Spectre may be the most expensive Bond ever made, and is even the longest too – but sadly, it’s by no means the most fulfilling.

Disappointing #SPECTRE---If this was the Seventies, Spectre would be the perfect Bond outing, with its cheesy jokes, too unbelievable action sequences and Bond girls who are either providing him with information or an orgasm. I’m all for suspending disbelief in a movie theatre, but there’s only so much one person can take in a 2hr 40min movie.

Wendy Ide on October 21, 2015 @ 8:24 pm thewrap.com------His Bond is permanently pissed off. His reaction to anything — shrapnel, heavy traffic, sexual attraction — is a grimace of irritation. Is he an outmoded relic of a bygone age? While the character’s relevance may still be subject for debate, the franchise doesn’t do its best work at justifying its continued existence this time around.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
JORDAN ROYCE THURSDAY, 22 OCTOBER 2015: Sam Smith gives you an excuse to nod off for a three minute power nap. SPECTRE is an integrated remake of Thunderball and You Only Live Twice. The story itself is flimsy and gossamer thin; merely acting as a loose framework to provide an ending to the previous three instalments. This never comes across as anything other than forced, especially with regards to Skyfall; there had been literally no foreshadowing of this unconvincing connection. Even the title sequence gets in on the act, and unlike the Lazenby handover in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the flashback imagery serves no real purpose. Despite this urgency to resolve everything neatly, it is handled with little or no explanation, which renders the initial build-up in the first half rather pointless. What actually is SPECTRE? Were Quantum part of SPECTRE (bad guys fronting for slightly worse bad guys)? And most importantly, is SPECTRE even an acronym anymore? No answers are to be found here. It’s all atmospheric intrigue with no payoff. Similarly gossamer thin is the treatment of the two leading ladies, Monica Belluci and Léa Seydoux. Belluci is in, bedded, and gone within a few short scenes, and Seydoux just does not cut it as Mr White’s daughter Dr. Madeleine Swann. The reason revealed for everything that has happened in Bond’s life since Casino Royale is downright laughable, and actually harms the credibility of the previous three movies. Whereas SPECTRE feels the most like a traditional Bond movie, is occasionally awesome to watch, but simply doesn’t feel authentic, and is further sabotaged by a needless, silly, and damaging backstory. Which is a shame, because with this amount of zeitgeist, so much more could have been achieved here than making you want to finally pony up and buy those Connery Bonds on Blu-ray.

Gasp. I'm so excited that I'll wait till a friend buys the DVD a couple of months from now ... can't wait: a scowling Craggs playing a charming (cheesy?) 'Bond' without the charm or even quality cheese.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Its dissapointing to read that the story in 'Spectre' doesnt hold up well.............and in fact apparently doesnt explain anything............i mean the producers have had 3 years to get this sorted.
This thing about the Bond reboot is very confusing...........when will the producers know when they have reached the end of it?
I got the impression that the first 3 films of the Craig era were a sort of introduction to Bonds early days...............then Spectre was supposed to be a film about the origins of the organisation 'Spectre'?...........and how we find out about Blofeld................but i'am not so sure now!
Its all a real muddle, isnt it?

Here we go...now the movie isn't good because it's appearantly similar to the 70's movies...bjmdds wrote:Hanna Flint @HannaFlint : Metro.co.uk

If there is only one thing,ONE,in this movie that will remind of the days when Bond movies were at its most entertaining in my opinion that makes it easily the best movie of the Craig era.

I think they have abandoned the old timeline and invented a new one with Craig. Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
There are people who didn't like Skyfall for reintroducing classic Bond elements, saying the films should continue with the style of Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace. But that's what the producers now have to deal with for bringing in people who don't care for the series with the reboot.Veronica wrote:Here we go...now the movie isn't good because it's appearantly similar to the 70's movies...bjmdds wrote:Hanna Flint @HannaFlint : Metro.co.uk

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
It's time for new writers too, who know how to write action packed scenes combined with spy intrigue, just like the MI films have done. Broccoli should be bought out and the writers of MI:4 and MI:5 should be hired with Henry Cavill in the role as the 7th 007 with this scene introducing him, ala, OP's beginning, and bring back the FUN to a Bond film already
Just picture Cavill's Bond exiting from this glider, after a huge opening sequence, walking over to the new M, and saying, "reporting for duty sir", followed by a Carrie Underwood lively theme song
Ale, what say yee? This would even bring FBF back to the franchise.

Are you sure this isn't the synopsis for Bond 25 BJ?
But seriously, I think it's safe to say Skyfall isn't a better movie than Spectre despite all the critics falling all over that film as the "best Bond Eva!" Where as now they seem to be vilifying Spectre as utter trash (an opinion I'm sure I'll share once I see it) The question is what's different, It seems most of the complaints surround EON's return to the dreaded "formula", of course I'm sure Babzy and Co. did it in their typical slip shot, lackadaisical fashion, which doesn't present it as good as it could be. I think we're headed back to Die Another Day all over again, where the "formula doesn't work" and "Austin Powers ruined us" so it all needs to go and we're back to the "Bournd Identity".
