They got away with it too, which is quite an interesting thing.

That's because they know people are not going in theaters to see the sequel to Dr. No, they're going in to see a Bond film.

Bond/007 became a brand name that outlives its actors. Every actor has shown different traits yet the popularity of Bond has remained. The Bond brand name promises exhilarating action, exotic locales, beautiful girls and of course the action hero James Bond that when audiences leave the theater men walk taller and women swoon over the actor in the role. The drastic change from Brosnan to Craig was no different than the transition from Connery to Moore. I may not agree with Moore's casting as Bond, but I can't deny his popularity. In the end Moore is still the definitive Bond to some people, and the same can apply to the other five actors, yes, even Lazenby has his worshippers.

Lazenby's and Dalton's existence in the Bond world are a fleeting enigma to the series, yet because of the 'Bond' tradename, people will watch them in syndicated television over and over. CR has yet to be shown in the USA on either HBO or Showtime or Cinemax, even though it has been almost 18 months since it's release. Is there still a DVD market for it? Usually these films go to cable within 12 months. Maybe they will wait until QOSTBM's release to allow cable channels to air CR :?:

CR has actually started airing on Showtime. Odd though, they were announced long ago that they would most likely go on HBO because its a Sony release, but I suppose since it is part of MGM it has to go under the rules of going on Showtime like all other Bond films.

Shame, I was hoping I would catch CR when I channel surf, and possibly the previous films. :P

If they'd unveiled Worthington or Cavill (etc, etc) I wonder how the Bond forums would have reacted to Daniel Craig now knowing that he wasn't going to do it. Bear in mind that once he was cast everyone suddenly started being critical of the likes of Jackman, Owen, Mcmahon (etc, etc) to prop up the selection.

Who was critical on Jackman? I think he would make a good Bond but I can see a lot agree that he's way too much of a movie star to take the role and you can't have a star shadow James Bond.

May I be the first to welcome you to the forum. There are many like minded members who share your views and a few decent Pro-Craigers.

As a Bond fan it's hard not to be. I'm certainly hoping for an improvement on CR, where I felt Craig was far too raw and uncouth. The young Bond angle was also an area that I felt EON got wrong due to the aged look of DC. There are other issues too, but I could be here all night.

You have seen CR on Showtime in the USA? Recently? I will have to check that out.

QOSTBM is a big deal for EON. They will be spinning this earlier than usual I believe, to try to get a head start on the competition with Harry Potter, as they have already moved up the date in the UK.

http://daniel-craig-news.newslib.com/st ... 3-3225314/ Is anyone living in the UK planning on seeing this film this week? The video clip has some profane language, as a warning. It seems most of Craig's 'artsy' movies have both profanity and nudity. I do not believe it will be released in the USA yet.

I don't have Showtime unfortunately, I saw the listing on TV Guide. I was under the impression it would go under HBO since all the Sony releases went to that channel. Plus an article even stated CR would run on HBO in December 07. I suppose something changed. The bit was actually in an article posted in December 06 about the cable networks bidding for the rights to air Casino Royale. Spike TV, holder of all the films, lost to USA Networks. Not surprising though, because USA bid $20 million for the rights. You'd have to be insane to go over that much, let alone 20 million.

I wouldn't mind seeing this, but I do know it would probably hit too close to home for people like say Scott Baio or Vanilla Ice.
