I think too few people were familiar with the TV show. I had several people say "what's that?" when I said I was going to see it. Yes, Mission: Impossible is also based on a '60s TV show, but it is an established movie franchise, so people who don't know the original will know it from the previous 4 movies.

Yes ............ thats more than likely...............ie far too much time has passed, and really only people in their late 50's plus would remember this show.Kristatos wrote:I think too few people were familiar with the TV show. Basically, they should of made a film version long ago.................as per Mission Impossible.
Anyway, i will probably view the film online, just out of curiosity, as to see how this Henry Cavill is as an actor.........as i know you all like him here!
Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I'm 48 and I remember it from reruns. The film has been in development hell for 10 years or so. The first M:I film came out when remakes of '60s and '70s TV shows were all the rage: The Fugitive, Charlie's Angels, The Flintstones....English Agent wrote:Yes ............ thats more than likely...............ie far too much time has passed, and really only people in their late 50's plus would remember this show.Kristatos wrote:I think too few people were familiar with the TV show. Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I never liked the tv show much. I sat next to Robert Vaughn at a comic-con convention in New Jersey 3 years ago as he ordered his 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream and the check at the same time, as he was at the table to my immediate left. We said hello to him, and he responded back. Another hotel restaurant patron went up to him and commended him on his films too. He ate his 3 scoops of ice cream, got up, and left the restaurant..........now that Cavill's career as Solo has come and gone he can concentrate on being the 7th 007 IF Broccoli resigns her post at Eon.

Well, i'am 56.........and i knew of TMFU, as kids at school would wear those triangular Uncle badges, but i don't remember watching the TV show.........i must of been too young.
Regarding Broccoli..........i don't see her ever resigning her post at EON, as its a family business, even though she must now have more money than god.
I think she does it, for the sake of doing it.
Mind you, if we ever get another debacle such as QOS, then i think she should relinquish her control of the franchise!

Since Babs won't give up that easily, there's no point of hoping that the traditional Bond actor returning anymore. Bottomline is that James Bond is NOT for us anymore.

Yvonne Craig, the actress best known for her role as Batgirl in the 1960’s “Batman” TV series, died on Monday. She was 78. Craig passed away at her home in Pacific Palisades surrounded by her family, according to her spokesman. She had been suffering from breast cancer that metastasized to her liver. "She had been in chemo almost continuously for the past two plus years since being diagnosed and that had weakened her immune system as well as her body," the statement said, per CNN. "This didn't dampen her sense of humor or her spirit, she intended to fight and win this battle. In the end, her mind still wanted to fight but her body had given up." Craig also played Martha, the green Orion Slave Girl who wanted to kill Captain Kirk, in the third season of “Star Trek.” Her guest appearances on TV include “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” “Fantasy Island,” “The Mod Squad” and “The Many Lives of Dobie Gillis.” She also starred in two movies opposite Elvis Presley, “It Happened at the World’s Fair” and “Kissin’ Cousins.” In 2000, Craig wrote a book entitled “From Ballet to the Batcave and Beyond,” which covered some of her years in the ballet as well as her theatrical career. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Aldrich, her sister Meridel Carson and nephews Christopher and Todd Carson.

If Craig did not know Barbara he'd be in Emmerdale or playing the villain in straight to DVD action movies.Kristatos wrote:Says a fan of the actor who made The Golden Compass, Cowboys and Aliens and The Invasion such huge box office hits.tehmanis wrote:So Cavill's beautiful face and suaveness cannot guarantee a lot of money, right?bjmdds wrote:UNCLE bombed plain and simple.

It seems like he is a nice chap. I wonder what Frank Vincent would have done after eating the ice cream?bjmdds wrote:I never liked the tv show much. The pre-publicity I've seen doesn't even mention Pierce. It's all about how this is Owen Wilson's transition from comedies to action movies.FormerBondFan wrote:

"The ultimate test for Pierce"...its like you are talking about Olympics. If we are talking about BO then its more of a test for PR for that movie.
Maybe this could be a summer sleeper hit?
