As for Spectre I don't think it it will break the billion. Skyfall was greatly helped by the 50th anniversary. Whenever you went you saw Skyfall poster Adele's song was on the radio 24/7(another smart move-hiring Adele). And you just couldn't not to know about the movie and how supposedly "great" it is. For me it's unquestionable that the best thing about Skyfall was the promotion of the film.
And the Adele song was good-although the lyrics are...well...

He behaved in similar fashion during the last movie. The hotel staff was not to look at him nor to speak to him. Also the hotel must step up its cleaning game. Also Craig is going to wear a white dinner jacket which should provide a few laughs.A few weeks ago, some hapless young man who’d got himself a job as a translator on the Morocco set of SPECTRE posted a photo of Daniel Craig’s back on Instagram, along with the subtle hashtag #actorsareassholes.

I like her. I don't see how they picked her if it's true. She is a big name if that is the sole deciding factor.. well. I'd hate for her to be stuck with a poorly thought out song. The songs I'm familiar with don't scream 'I have Bond in my range'.bjmdds wrote:That's pure 1960s Bond................Ellie Goulding confirmed that she's recording new material on Thursday, but she's dropped a hint that it may be James Bond's Spectre theme tune that she's laying down. The musician explained that she was too excited to sing when she was captured in the recording booth this week before simply saying 'Live and let die' on Twitter. Ellie, 28, hit the Chiltern Firehouse later that night, keeping schtum on speculation that she will be putting the vocals to the upcoming 007 release.
(who is she?)
She has over half a billion views on this so Eon must think that will translate into ticket purchases.
Whatever the song ultimately is can not be as bad a 'Another Way to Die'
Re: Adel another singer I like, she does have the right range for Bond however Skyfall was decent melody except for the lyrics, Had to be phoned in. Supposedly she spent most of a year hammering that ditty out.
Song announcements go about like this:
GE? Enough time for Tina to be chosen and Bono to write it.
TND June. Why didn't somebody stop Sheryl Crow? There was enough time.
TWINE?
DAD March. Have a feeling Madonna was best-ies with Barbara at the time.
CR July
QOS July
SF October (open secret)

You may be right about the cologne. I definitely remember him using some sort of Floris bath oil in one of the books, but I can't remember which one.Veronica wrote:I think it was said in the books that Bond does not wear any cologne? OK. I remember it as being the United Nations, but obviously my memory is playing tricks on me. You'd be amazed how many times I've seen repeats of films and TV shows that I watched as a kid and found that scenes and characters that I vividly remember are completely different from how I remember them.

But SPECTRE will have Skyfall's coat-tails to ride. Now that Bond has joined the billion-dollar club, I think the perception of a new Bond film as a must-see will be more implanted in people's minds. I'm not FBF, and I don't believe that Barbara Broccoli is some kind of evil space lizard single-handedly dictating the entire world's cinemagoing choices with her alien mind control rays. But the herd mentality is strong when it comes to deciding which films will be blockbusters and which won't. SPECTRE won't have Bond parachuting into the Olympics with The Actual Queen, but it will have a massive publicity campaign, and a cabal of poncy North London film critics fawning over the fact that "finally, they're making Bond films for people like us" (remember, even the critics who now freely admit that QOS sucks balls were praising it when it first came out.) The fact that (based on what's been leaked so far) it feels like Skyfall's warmed-up leftovers won't matter once the hype machine kicks into high gear.Veronica wrote: As for Spectre I don't think it it will break the billion. I think you are right, but I had thought that the request was much more recent than it actually was. I believe the change to UNIT in Doctor Who occurred when it was revived in 2005, so I assumed it was a later development.Omega wrote:

Spectre will be successful,no doubt I just am not sure if it will repeat Skyfall numbers. With Skyfall they just mixed all the things to suit all the people. A little bit of Batman,a little bit of Bourne,a little bit of MI,a little bit of Home Alone(I guess thats for kids),a little bit of one liners to please the real Bond fans and on the hand reciting poetry and some kind of "realistic"(read:depressed) feeling to lure critics because now it's "serious". Blah. The general crowd that way easily forgets the feel of real Bond movies. I guesss they try to make Spectre in the same way. Will it be successful twice? We'll see.
P.S. Someone actually praised QOS? For what exactly? I guess the "realistic" and "serious" aspect of a movie...eh.

Plent of especially the early critics praised qos after the release the less than favorable became more common.
These guys normally see the movie a few weeks early in a press screening and have to promise not to publish, but the early positive one always seem to leak first

The show used an establishing shot of New York City and the U.N. is prominent in that shot.Kristatos wrote:OK. Also, and this more true of the earlier episodes, Solo would say he is from "the U-N-C-L-E" rather than "I'm from uncle." (These spellings to duplicate the way they were pronounced.) So the audience made a connection between the U.N. even if it was never made on the show.
For the first three seasons, the end titles had, "We wish to thank the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement without whose assistance this program would not be possible." It was modeled after something similar in Dr. Kildare's end titles thanking the American Medical Association. Norman Felton produced both shows.
I have a VHS copy of the pilot that has Robert Vaughn speaking after the end titles. This segment was intended for advertisers and not aired. In it, he says that U.N.C.L.E. has nothing to do with the United Nations.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Regarding the BO of recent Bond films!
Another factor that helped 'Skyfall' was that it was released not too long after the 2012 Olympics..........and having a Bond segment in the opening ceremony, must of stirred up many people to seeing the next Bond film.
I was surprised that 'Skyfall' had the success that it did, particularly with very strong openings in the US, UK and many other countries, simply for the reason that the previous film 'QOS' was so god awful..............mind you, that film was 4 years prior to 'Skyfall', and maybe the audience thought 'QOS' was just a blip in the Bond franchise..................ps is Marc Forster still trying to make a decent film?.....and does he still have his useless editors?
'QOS' only survived, just, because mainly of the success of the previous film 'CR'. 'QOS had strong openings, but after that, the film nose dived rapidly in all countries, including the UK.
It makes you wonder that had 'QOS' been Craigs first Bond film..............then that really could of been a death sentence for the franchise.........it could of had a BO akin to 'LTK'. Remember, that even 'CR' had a very cautious start in the US.......some $40 mil opening, which was lower than the previous Bond film 'DAD'.
'CR' eventually wound up with a decent BO total in the US...........but can one imagine what 'QOS' would of done if it was the first film?.............the word of mouth would of been so bad, that i likely imagine the total would of been lucky to pass $100 mil overall.
Anyway........Bond films have a very large worldwide fan base, and will always have plenty of people flocking to the multiplexes....at least initially.
I think 'Spectre' will do around a billion plus worldwide....mainly due to the fact of the increased worldwide audience........one only has to look at the staggering film grosses in the Chinese film market, in recent times. 'SF' did $59 mil in China.....'Spectre' could do '100 mil' if its a good film.
I do hope that 'Spectre' is a fast paced, well written, directed, edited and action packed adventure..............i dont want long periods in the film of slow, dull dialogue, which i'am worried that Mendes might have put into the film, coz i get the impression he makes slow moving films!
I too, am looking forward to the 'UNCLE' film...........it should be very successful particularly in the US. Just hope the film has been executed well, as so many TV series have had appalling cinema representations.

Well its quite a good thing your avatar is of a scuba diving Connery EA, cause you'll be holding your breath for a long time!English Agent wrote: I do hope that 'Spectre' is a fast paced, well written, directed, edited and action packed adventure.

Will SP do well? Yes. Will it do as well as SF? No. At least that's my humble opinion.
As has been said before, SF benefited from the Olympics, where everyone became an anglophile and the 50th anniversary where every T.V. program was running a Bond retrospective. SP will be riding SF's coattails, however I don't know that is necessarily a good thing. I've never seen such a meteoric fall from "Bestest Bond Evaaaa!!!" to "Meh" in so short a time.
As for critics no matter how bad a film is, there will always be a critic or two willing to give it a positive review, wither it's a result of studio money or a desire to see their names in print on the poster, "Boffo!" says Bill Jones of the Fresno Post Dispatch.
