Den of Geek reports that Gravity had a mere 20% drop-off in its second weekend, and has a good chance of hitting $200 million in North American grosses. After the box office disappointment of Pacific Rim, it's good to see a non-franchise SF movie performing so strongly (I haven't seen it yet, not sure if it's even out over here).

Gravity is the one I didn't see coming. I thought if flop like that other Clooney in space movie.

Interesting stories about the real captain Phillips, hero made by the news and Hollywood while his crew tells another story

I think it took everybody by surprise. Proof that prediction is an inexact science at best.

its done better than anyone expected goes to what you said about predictions. To me it looked like a dumb movie so I assumed it'd look that way to everyone.

The biggest box-office hit of the new Broadway season hasn't even officially opened yet.

"Betrayal," the latest revival of Harold Pinter's reverse-chronological tale of adultery, is in previews and set to open Oct. 27 with a cast that includes real-life couple Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, with rising British actor Rafe Spall as the third party.

Ticket sales for the run's first week in previews at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre exceeded $1.1 million -- a more than healthy start for a non-musical production on Broadway. The revival has some heavy-hitter investors behind it, including uber-producer Scott Rudin and media mogul Barry Diller.

Mike Nichols is directing the production. He and Rudin previously teamed up on another recent box-office success -- the 2012 revival of Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman" starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Andrew Garfield.

"Betrayal" (no relationship to the new ABC drama series of the same name) is being helped at the box office by premium ticket pricing, which allows producers to charge more for popular seats at certain performances.

The top ticket price for the play is "$423", the second-highest ticket on Broadway after "The Book of Mormon," which is another Rudin production.

"Betrayal" marks Craig's return to the New York stage following his performance in the two-hander "A Steady Rain," alongside Hugh Jackman, in 2009. The new revival is scheduled to run through Jan. 5. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/10/ ... 34x500.jpg http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/10/ ... 34x355.jpg

This play is also the reason we knew some of the movie talk was producers dropping Daniel's with no intention of hiring him for their movie.

Back in the early days Daniel went on about how he hated theater, after QOS suddenly he transforms into highbrow theater man

I wonder if those box office numbers are from pro-Craigs seeing the play more than once?

Someone was suggesting who they would cast as a female Will(Willa?) Graham in a genderbent version of Hannibal. Rachel Weisz was mentioned. Umm how about NO. She's almost as wooden as her husband does. I'm not opposed to genderbent versions of things-it's fun to speculate- but at least cast people who can act. :cuss:

Broccoli and Wilson always get credited jointly. Wilson is 18 years her senior, Dana’s son from her first marriage. Is there a hierarchy between them? “No, we have to agree on everything. Which, in business, we do. We don’t agree on politics or religion, we have the typical brother-sister disagreements on other things. But I can’t remember when we disagreed on something to do with work. We were educated by my father, we both have his sensibility.”

“He used to say, make a decision, even if it’s wrong. Because the paralysis caused by indecision in film-making is time-consuming and costly. So, you know” — and suddenly her accent goes 100 per cent British — “get on with it. If you make a mistake, you can deal with it. In a long-running series, 50 years, you’re going to make mistakes. We certainly have. But make them your mistakes. And learn from them. You learn from your failures more than your successes.”
