Unusual to see any movie that isn't based on an existing IP do that well, though. I know it was adapted from a best-selling novel, but the numbers required to get to the top of the book charts are tiny compared to the number of people who would have been aware of Michael Jackson or Super Mario Brothers.

Well, project Hail Mary was being talked about as the next top gun Maverick. Sort of a clean, non-political, Just good storytelling movie..

Honestly I’m not really sure what was supposed to be about or why I should care. I was willing give it a chance. We will probably get it on digital. super Mario is already out on digital, so we’ll probably get that for the kids when they visit too.

Michael, I’m kind of curious about. I’ve heard some things in recent year that made me doubt the wacko Jacko narrative.

I think mando may do better than this prediction, our family actually went to see it in two waves and might go again tomorrow.

Bottom line it’s a good continuation of the Mandalorian series

Seeing stories about this is a sign the Star Wars franchise is dying .
Maybe so.
But I wonder if this is what the average Bo on one of these side films is?
Then we can expound on what effect that streaming has, Disney plus was the only place to see mando series. It’s a niche market. In the same people who watched Mando on Disney+ or googling when is Mandalorian and Grogu coming to Disney?

I honestly don’t think that’s why the box office isn’t greater. It’ll be interesting to see if this film continues to hold steady in the next weeks It will tell a different story.

But the other hand we hadn’t gone to the movies in a while, made an event of it, and it was ridiculous what we paid for drinks, popcorn and candy. The tickets for the movies were expensive as well. so we have eight people going. You’ve dropped almost $200 for matinee tickets and a few stale candies and a bucket of popcorn . Maybe that’s more in line with the average people‘s math than the studios like to think.
Go to the movies spend X amount of dollars or wait a month buy it for 30 bucks. Have them run over to watch it. popcorn and drinks minimum cost.
But I do think this one was fun in the theater so still an event to go

We're almost halfway through the year, and no movie has grossed a billion dollars worldwide yet (4 did last year). Wonder if the summer blockbuster season will make a difference.

Disclosure Day made $35 million domestically on its opening Friday, which Variety described as "soft", but the Hollywood Reporter" as "solid". I guess it depends on your expectations.

Disclosure Day made $35 million domestically on its opening Friday, which Variety described as "soft", but the Hollywood Reporter" as "solid". I guess it depends on your expectations.

I think it’s also down to studio cheerleading sections.
Advertising money, may influence it too.
I think the studio model is so damaged after Covid that a real hits True hits are so rare that mediocre performances at the box office are greeting like the second coming. But I think the truth is, the money is shifted and streaming and other content is more priority and big movies are becoming the outliers rather than the rule.
And that’s just me looking in from the outside, who knows what’s real?

Toy Story 5 seems to be doing well, though. It seems the only way to make decent coin at the multiplex these days is to be part of an existing franchise. Even a Spielberg film that reportedly forms an unofficial trilogy with Close Encounters and ET can't manage it (though mixed reviews probably don't help).

I thought disclosure day was part of the weird UFO movie maker cult. That usually release on Amazon or Netflix I didn’t realize it was a Spielberg film.

There is kind of a weird whispering about how connected Spielberg supposed to be and where his information came from for some of those movies.
He has a legendary director, but I don’t think he’s had anything really big since ready one and that was kind of a greatest hits of every movie he made.

It seems the only big-budget movies to succeed in the last couple of years are kids' films. This probably explains why they want to cast a foetus as Bond.

We took the kids to see Spider-Man last night. I think it’s going to be big . Theater was packed
I was surprised the girls were in to it as well. Sometime they sit out on family movie outing if they don’t really care.
