Well, if the failure of QOS didn't lead to a course correction, I don't know if Bond 23 tanking would have any effect either. The Sweeney wrote: I think BO figures on 23 will more than likely decide whether he hangs on to Bond one more time. They still have the 'oink'-ster in the role EA and the Cavill news throws salt into the wounds of what should have and could have been. What a coup for the Superman producers and an unwanted competition for Eon. Maybe they will pull an 'Invasion' tactic and keep pushing back the release of the loser's 3rd film until lesser competition exists. Once Cavill is seen in the USA, the call for Broccoli to fire her makeshift boy-toy will be loud and fierce.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
You're right... there are in fact quite a few people saying now it is MORE rather than LESS likely that they hire him now, especially with the new partners coming in. I do HOPE at this point that the Man of Steel outdoes Bond 23... they need to learn the lesson one way or another. And it's true, especially once he's seen in the US, they will definitely see him under a different light. (the light of "A LOT OF BOX OFFICE MONEY"). Sadly, I have to agree that if Cavill and Jackman are history Bond is over right now. Like you, I don't think there's anyone else more suited for the role. So yeah, let's just hope this OPENS their eyes once and for all. I agree his salary demand (provided his Superman is successful, which I think it will be) may be the problem, but again... they can't revamp a franchise without the perfect actor for the part.bjmdds wrote:Calm down Ale. When The Man of Steel outdoes the next Bond Eon might still try to rope him in. The problem will be his salary demand;however, the new owner might say to hell with what he wants, sign him. Superman and Bond on his resume? It just shows you that Broccoli has screwed the franchise and let Jackman go by and Cavill make it without them, while keeping this insane loser as Bond for more films. Bond is over if Cavill or Jackman are history. There is no one else more suited for the role. At this point, who cares about Bond if these mistakes by Eon progress? FBF, which film will gross more, Cavill's or Egg's?
Agreed. He has solid fanbase because of The Tudors in the US, but now it will just go to a totally new level. I swear last time I saw Twitter go this berserk about an actor was when they were talking about the new Spiderman and the new Twilight movie. It's insane. He's freaking everywhere in the news. Again, I commend the Superman producers for being able to fix their mistakes (I did enjoy Routh in the role but I am absolutely convinced Cavill is a much better choice). I've read things about the plot of Superman: Man of Steel and it seems like Cavill will totally reboot the franchise, it's a "back to Smallville and the origins" type of movie. Producers already said in today's press release that they will try and make this the more contemporary as possible. And with Zac Snyder directing and Christopher Nolan producing, well I pretty much think it's a given this will be a big hit, unless something abysmal happens. They still have the 'oink'-ster in the role EA and the Cavill news throws salt into the wounds of what should have and could have been. I am curious to see what happens now, I really am. Because (now I can say it, the hell with it) I had heard quite a few things about contacts ongoing between him and Bond production in the past couple of months. Both in the US and in the UK. So I'm REALLY curious to see what's next.

It's ironic really that Worthington and Cavill are going to be bigger stars than Daniel Craig without the aid of Barbara Broccoli.

So Cavill as Superman...Wow! I'm certainly looking forward to new film. Was no one happy with Brandon as Superman? I thought he had a look of Christopher Reeve, and fans were happy with him...
So this rules another potential actor out as a replacement for Craig.

I don't see why a successful actor can't do several series. Unlikely I know but this is what Craig is trying to do and the old pay system is gone, actors are not making the big bucks for every single movie anymore. Bond can certainly afford Cavill or Worthington if they want them, even Hugh Jackman.Brandon was OK as Superman the story sucked big time. Lois Lane sucked, she was Kate Bosworth for crying out loud and it still sucked. Bryan Singer should have directed X-men 3. Both movies ended up sucking becuase the wrong directors had the job.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Oh I DID like Brandon as Superman. I think I am one of the few who actually liked Superman Returns. I think we talked about it a few days ago and Kristatos I think was mentioning how that movie became anathema for the Superman fans after a while. I didn't understand why, other than the obvious quite contrived Lois plus kid part which I could understand. I seem to understand from the many tweets that they thought the movie sucked, and not really many fans are on board with Routh. Especially seen how many are happy about Cavill. The Sweeney wrote:So Cavill as Superman...Wow! I'm certainly looking forward to new film. Was no one happy with Brandon as Superman? I just spoke to a few friends of mine in Hollywood (SAG awards come in handy to have everyone available at the same time) and they actually think Cavill now stands a bigger chance to be Bond. They don't think the two things are mutually exclusive. They didn't go into specifics and wouldn't answer my questions. Something is up, LOL. They just told me "just wait and see. He's got a bigger chance now." So I won't give up hope, but really the fact he was cast as Superman makes me wonder, especially knowing he WAS contacted by Bond production recently.. what the hell are they waiting for? Seriously.Got to be happy for Cavill it is a big break. I don't know if it rules him out the old Bond rules are buried not far from Cubby.I don't see why a successful actor can't do several series. What is going on with Cavill and Bond behind the scenes? Did he already sign on to replace Cr-egg after Bond 23? Stallone was Rambo and Rocky. Superman will not be a 5 film run and at age 29 in 2013 Cavill could do 10 Bond films whereas Superman would be 3 at most. Routh stunk as Superman and I knew he would. He was thrown off ABC's soap opera One Life To Live and was a waiter basically when Singer called him to audition. Routh's career went nowhere after a poor box office Superman Returns. This time, do it origin, no kids, just action and heroics with the right non-smoking Lois Lane.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Yeah, Superman can be 3 movies at best. I do not know what is going on exactly, all I know is I've been told by different sources that he HAS been in contact with Bond producers recently. I have zero idea what is going on, that is all I know. Which is why I was all the more shocked about today's news (and again, THRILLED for Cavill, let it be clear. He is perfect for the part and totally deserves it). Did you read that this one IS going to be about the origins? I read quite a few things about the plot, seems like quite some stuff has leaked. He will spend lots of time being Clark Kent rather than going straight to Superman. Which I feel is right if this has to be an "origins" movie. LOL I had no idea about Routh's acting background, I liked him as Superman, but you're clearly more informed than I am on him. I didn't go see the movie with high expectations and I liked it. EXCEPT the Lois Lane part. Now I'm curious who they will cast as Lois. It better be Natalie Portman. Just because she plus Henry Cavill... great combo.bjmdds wrote:What is going on with Cavill and Bond behind the scenes? Did he already sign on to replace Cr-egg after Bond 23? I do not know what is going on and I mean seriously.. between my friends in Hollywood saying this doesn't rule him out for Bond at all, quite the opposite, and the contacts in the past couple of months I just don't know what to think. I guess maybe they just started approaching him again and people in the biz think this will actually speed up the process rather than stop it? I honestly don't know.
BTW, BJ... LOVE your signature!

I thought the same exact choice for Lois Lane Ale;however, if she gets an Oscar she might not do it. It had better be someone like her, no Beyonce or other "fringe" social concepts foreign to the storyline, just "straight by the comic book" material. This time, no Lex Luther either. I am tired of that storyline as well. My new signature now defines my choice for the next Bond if it won't be Jackman. If it's not one or the other or if Cr-egg continues, I will be be done with this farce Broccoli is running. FBF will lead the boycott in 2012 of Bond 23.

I think Cavill would be a great choice for Bond, but I seriously don't see this happening now he is signed up for Superman. It was the same issue when Bale was signed up as Batman, when he could have been a contender for Bond.
Could you have imagined Reeve being tipped to replace Moore after FYEO back in the late 70's? It just wouldn't happen. Once a main actor has been signed up to a franchise, I cannot see them being signed up for another franchise alongside it. Besides which, the replacement for Craig is still a couple of years away (at least). By which time audiences the world over will have then associated Cavill as Superman.
I'm still unsure of a Superman origin story. The first one, and the best, is unbeatable. Superman The Movie, with Reeve, Brando, Hackman is a classic. You cannot remake that. The one thing I did like about Superman Returns was that it at least attempted to honour the franchise, with the superb title sequence and Willaims theme score (why he didn't do the entire score I don't know). I think it would be a mistake to go in a different direction, and do a Nolan's Batman Begins.
Batman reboot worked because IMO the original Tim Burton film wasn't that great. There wasn't much of a legacy to mess with, unlike Superman The Movie, which is a near-perfect classic (and another film which resides in my top 10).

Hi
Sad to hear about John Barry...............his music was excellent, and his contribution to the success of the Bond franchise was enormous.
Secondly, i hear from 'Deadline Hollywood' that 'Jarvier Bardem' has been offered a significant role in Bond 23 (probably as main villian). If this is true, then i think it would be very good for the upcoming film, anyone who saw his performance in 'No Country for Old Men' as a sadistic killer, will know what i mean.

I may be wrong but Iam pretty sure Cubby did consider Reeve for Bond after seeing him in Superman he even offerd Burt Reynolds the part in the seventies for godsake. The Sweeney wrote:I think Cavill would be a great choice for Bond, but I seriously don't see this happening now he is signed up for Superman.
