Had some tempura crunch sushi last night for dinner with my stepdad at one of my favorite sushi places, he had the teriyaki beef and shrimp plate.

I guess her post got removed. There was a new poster, Janice somebody, who posted something in this thread. I approved it, because it seemed to be on-topic, but a few days later, she posted exactly the same thing again. Probably a bot.bjmdds wrote:Who?Kristatos wrote:Welcome, Janice.

Mmm, tempura. I had poke( cubed raw tuna) in Hawaii and discovered I quite like it!
I've had a feen for Thai food for a while..I have made Thai Curry at home and it's a pretty good approximation of what I've had at Thai restaraunts.

Re: The food thread
Shawarma is an Arab and Israeli meat preparation, where lamb, chicken, turkey, beef, veal, buffalo meat, or mixed meats are placed on a spit (commonly a vertical spit in restaurants), and may be grilled for as long as a day. Shavings are cut off the block of meat for serving, and the remainder of the block of meat is kept heated on the rotating spit. Shawarma can be served on a plate (generally with accompaniments), or as a sandwich or wrap.

Re: The food thread
The times I've had shawarma it's usually beef and lamb(I like lamb but nobody else in the family does, so...)When my dad lived in Israel(the company he worked for at the time did a lot of buisness with the Israeli military) he said that was one of his favorite things to eat there.

Here in Britain Shawarma has the name of kebab. People buy them after they have been drinking all night - and normally just throw most of it on the floor.

Re: The food thread
Nope- for roasting marshmallows that get mixed into a sweet potato casserole! And the topping is a sort of savory-sweet crumble-brown sugar,butter,and..sage! Will report back on what everyone thought of it!
On a Creme Brulee related note:In high school my niece worked at a Italian restaraunt and one of their specialties was Creme Brulee. Let's just say that hers is the BEST Creme Brulee I've had and leave it at that!

Re: The food thread
I'll be interested to see if people like it-sweet potatoes are, as you said a very American thing. My other favorite holiday dish is my cousin's potato-fennel gratin. SO good!

Giving up potatoes for Lent. Hoping I can lose some weight by cutting out at least one carb for a month or so.

These are my all-time favorite pizzas I buy whenever I drive out to Long Island in New York. I can eat 5 of these little rectangular slices at a time I have been going to this place for decades.
