Don't get me started on Craig's sleepwalking performance in SP. Actually, there is this tired feeling about that movie all around. It's like everyone was just going through routine to make that drivel.
Brosnan obviously got more relaxed after GE I guess that was the pressure of the first movie in six years.
Perhaps Dalton works better with humor when he can go all the way with the fun.

brosnan's first two movies determined if the series was back or done for. There was a few stories about it.
Dalton had the weight of his two movies under the threat of the series ending. The movies under Moore hadn't hit moonraker numbers for a long time far as the studio and investors were concerned, when Dalton took over Moore had stayed too long and the attendance numbers had dipped, not bashing Moore if anyone is at fault its eon Moore just did a job.
Dalton takes over a kind of bloated series and lazy producers, he wants to make his bond flemings bond and I think did a d**n good job. I just don't think he felt he had room to play with the character any, seeing him in other films like rocketeer and hot fuzz hurts because he shows he had the right mix comedy and seriousness.

Summer of 1989 was like the perfect storm of movies, legends we all know the names of today came out one after the other drowning out bond, when they relaunch with brosnan they learned that lesson and moved to November release which is now becoming crowded. They also promoted brosnan better, and Craig don't suppose any promotion compared to how the polished that turd.

IMO Dalton felt the crushing feeling of the series being ground down and wasn't as relaxed as he could be, his complaints about LTK are damning about the producers and director not caring as much as they should.
When TND began shooting ( besides not having a script) brosnan was knew it was over if this tanked, he was berated by Campbell on the set of GE "don't f' this up" because ever single person on set knew if this tanks bond was done.

Compare that to Craig where the only risk he felt was for a few days when Craig not bond started, the series was in no danger in fact they are down right arrogant about it being a juggernaut despite casting and crappy stories.

All those comments about Craig "saving" the franchise are ridiculous. DAD isn't the best movie out there by any stretch of imagination but the franchise wasn't in any kind of danger,it didn't need to be saved.
The only pressure Craig might have felt is that time before the release of CR where everyone was complaining about him being hired. But then I remember all those times when Craig's comments gave of the "I am so above this s**t" vibe so might not have cared anyway. All of a sudden Craig was hailed as sheer brilliance who saved the franchise that was apparently in shambles.

As Cubby Broccoli said, Bond is bigger than the actor. With Craggy Craig, he and the producers think he is bigger than Bond. His arrogant and rude comments after Spectre, and yet they are still pining for him. Cubby would have fired him for his big mouth.

Both Brosnan and Craggy benefitted from a long break. Goldeneye was six years after Licence and UnRoyale four years after DAD.

Dalton took over at a time when the studio was in turmoil. Cubby talks about how hard it was to make LTK. The people he knew and had a great relationship with had left United Artists.

It started around the time of A View To A Kill was in production.

I will say this, compared to Craig, Dalton is the king of humour. Dalton put in the effort and it shows. Broccoli says in his book how he admired Dalton for seriously studying Fleming.

Dalton did mention that he was hoping in his third film to have more humour and flirting.

And all of you are right that he can do humour when written well. I wish Tom Mankiewicz who wrote Diamonds, Live And Let Die was around to write for Dalton. He did great for Connery and Moore.

I would have loved to see a pervy Dalton Bond. He is a charmer when he wants to be. I have seen him do it in non-Bond films.

Seeing Craig force himself on women is like a dog that tries to shag a leg. Not attractive.

The excuses I've heard for Craig's reaction after Spectre was that he was tired/stressed after filming, or that the response was only just Craig's sarcastic type of humour. When Roger Moore was asked during filming A View To A Kill if he would be back for another Bond film, he said that at the end of the films it says James Bond will be back, it doesn't say Roger Moore will be back. A much more appropriate response to whether an actor will be returning to play Bond than threatening to slash their wrists.

The "he was just tired from all the work" is laughable. He doesn't have a regular 9 to 5 job like most of the people who go to work every day and get payed about 99% less than he does. Neither is he the only actor who worked on a movie for three or more months. Let's not forget that man with a mask did part of the job as well, for example the helicopter fight scene. For the amount of money he gets he should lick the dirt of his fans' shoes instead of saying how he would rather slash his wrists than do another movie.

Connery was for the first four films doing a Bond a year. He only complained during You Only Live Twice, but in a measured way.

Moore was always classy and elegant as was Dalton. Craig sounds over entitled and like he is sacrificing himself. Poor Craggy is tired after a film every three years.

Craig is an embarrassing pr@k. And this love for him is media manipulated. No one talks about him much, which is surprising going by the box office.

Fire fighters have more reasons to be tired and with bad pay. Craggy is so out of touch and maybe should think that soldiers do not have his luxury.

Craig is a WIMP and the joke is on him. Connery never forgot his roots and the reality people live in.

I guess that's the problem with famous and rich, some just seem to forget that the world they live in is not reality for vast majority of people. It's only their reality and they forget how people outside that world live.

Craggers should look in the mirror and realise how fortunate he is. That is risky as the mirror could crack. http://danielcraigfan.org/category/appearances/

His behaviour is typical of a man who has an inferiority complex. And disrespectful to people who have to risk their lives on a daily basis.

No past Bond actor has ever made ungrateful comments like him. Johnny Depp is always gracious as is Tom Cruise for instance.

OK, I've joined up here for something "completely different" in terms of the James Bond forum experience. I hope that I fit in here nicely. Great to be along with you all here in my new home! :)

My username is a reference to the mock wedding scene in John Gardner's Scorpius (1988) as I am a literary James Bond fan (the originals and the continuations) first and foremost and then a Bond film fan second.

Welcome to the forum, Mock Wedding, :hi: Good to have some literary Bond fans here. I have read all of Ian Fleming's novels and short stories at least once, but only a few of the continuation novels (and Colonel Sun, which I consider semi-canonical due to Kingsley Amis's friendship with Fleming).

Thank you for the welcome, Kristatos. You should give the continuations a try, for sure. And yes, Colonel Sun has a special status in the literary Bond canon, as you say.

Hello all, longtime fan of James Bond. First post is always hard, as we are all here for a similar reason. As fans what can I say that hasn't already been said.
With Bond 25 feeling very stagnant, I suppose we can all hope that at least we may get a new Bond.

I thought Craig was coming back. But there are some interesting rumours that point to a new actor being cast. I still expect Craig to don his skin tight suits and skinhead for another Bond movie though.

I don't think anyone knows what's going on. There has been little to no news since the release of SPECTRE. Tabloids the world over speculate on who will become the next Bond. Often posting stupid candidates, just because they've been spotted wearing a tux. I think it saw Justin Biebers name mentioned on a site the other day. I mean FFS. If he was cast it would be going from bad to worse. And I didn't think that could be possible.
I know he's coming up 65, but could Pierce do one more. As an aged and about to retire Bond. A seasoned veteran of the service, stuck in the office, but brought out into the field one last time. A bit like Bond in Never Say Never Again.
