Yeah Saint, I got to give you credit, I've stolen your "Days of our spies" line and been using it in conversation!

From the Ian Dunross review:

"And for all the press about how Mendes brought back the jovial spirit of the Moore Bond films, there is hardly any of it to be seen. From what does surface, Craig bungles it completely, lacking the panache and wit to pull off such Bondian style. Then again, this has been the weakness of the actor from the get-go."

Precisely. I already hate it when people deem Craig as the second coming of Connery, and now he suddenly has the charm, humour, and effortlessly cool style of Moore? I don't think so. Even Brosnan, in my opinion, didn't quite capture those qualities as good as Moore, and Craig most certainly does not.

Ian Dunross criticising the CraigBond films for being overlong and pretentious is a case of the pot calling the kettle black, IMO.

Saying Craig is second coming of Connery is just as saying Megan Fox is a second coming of Meryl Streep.
And please, stiff stone-faced Craig couldn't pull the wit and coolnes of Moore in a million years. Its such a gigantic stretch I can't even state it.

The n007.goldeneye site got lots of material from Spectre. It must have been an easy review to write. :D

The Craig fans said noone wanted a "cheesy classic Bond" and that a "serious gritty actor [Craig]" was cast to bring depth to the role. Now we have a wooden Craig murdering various one liners the Craig fans are praising Craig for being like Roger Moore. You could not make it up!

If Craig drove an invisible car they would probably praise it as well even though that was in the movie that "almost killed the franchise". Snort.

Yes sir Capt, the true definition of irony! It was uncanny how the forums were awash with fanboys/girls screaming with excitement over how this was "Moore meets Craig" (great, silly meets depression!), these same folks were bemoaning the "campyness" of the Moore era! These people were also acting as the reverse side of our coin, willing the Rotten Tomatoes score up, clattering on how the results were rigged, the critics wouldn't know a good film if it slapped them in the face (these same critics whom they were happy to cite when they praised the pretentious SF) the hilarious thing is most of these folks hadn't seen the film yet! At least we wad read the leaked script, so we knew what to expect! Now that the film has hit the major markets, these boards have all but fallen silent!

As a side note has anyone seen any "BEST BOND EVA" talk out there? I've seen some delusional folks say "great film" or "really good" but no "best"! Funny. :happy spin:

I've seen a few people rank Spectre as their top Bond film, but that will most likely change with time, however. Some people are always so quick to deem every new Bond film as the best one ever. I remember when many were ranking Skyfall as the best, only for it to slowly slip down their rankings over time.

Yeah Saint, people are quick to dive on the Bond band wagon, I know when Sf came out so many proclaimed it "Best Eva", but SP doesn't seem to be collecting as many "best evas" as it's predecessor which is why I ask, is it really hitting that hard of a wall?

It seems like the Quantum Of Solace after Casino Royale situation once again. There are several Craig fans who have Spectre in their top ten list, but only a handful I've personally seen have actually claimed it as their most favourite. So no, this not going to be like Skyfall. Let the hype die down and give it some time to see if people who say they did enjoy Spectre will start being more critical of the film.

This man should get an award. The stuff about being seduced by Craig-Bond is hilarious. And true.

Ok just watched Spectre, and I gotta say it was better than I thought. Was it really good? No. But as far as Craig's Bond goes, it was decent.

The Good:
6. Feels like an actual Bond movie at times. (still ties in with Craig's previous 3 movies). Because of this point, this is my favorite Craig 007 movie.
5. The gadgets are back
4. Léa Seydoux's Ms. Swann was a good Bond girl.
3. The car and Q's lab
2. Voldka Martini... Shaken, not stirred
1. The gun barrel finally starts out the movie. THANK YOU. Was that so hard? :007:

The Bad:
6. Just like Quantum of Solace, the plot can be hard to follow on 1st watch (I hope it makes more sense after repeat viewings)
5. Christoph Waltz is wasted
4. The Bloufeld charactor isn't done justice. The brother thing is stupid
3. Sam Medez's direction is a mess.
2. The wardrobe. Craig is dressed horribly. This isn't something that would bother me so much usually, but this is Bond.
1. The thing really holding this movie back is Daniel Craig. He doesn't wanna be there and it shows. He still lacks the charm of Bond. He does that smug smile, and you can tell he's really trying hard. Bottom line, I might have believed this to be a Bond movie if it wasn't for Craig.

Overall.... I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with this movie. I think Bond is on his way back. Next step would be casting a new Bond.
Rest in Peace
James Bond

I stumbled across the SP gunbarrel on youtube by accident, and it fades out too early. It has a Binder-ish look, but dammit, it fades out during the blood trickling down the screen. It's as if they're determined not to get it right.

If Craig stays I don't think we'll se that classic gunbarrel in his movies.

Although it's back at the beginning with a Binder-esque look, it just seems like the filmmakers halfheartedly did it for the sake of shutting up the hardcore fans knowing they were running out of lame excuses. I honestly think they would have rather started the film with "The Dead Are Alive" caption instead.

The Spectre gunbarrel sort of reminds me of the one from GoldenEye 64 with the flat look and how it slowly scrolls across the screen. But even the one in GoldenEye 64 still had the wobble effect at the end, and a better blood flow effect for that matter. Then there is Craig, who walks like Shaggy, laughably revealing the gun in his right hand. He also tries to mimic Dalton's shooting pose this time, but is nowhere near as smooth.

I'm not saying that Spectre having a perfect gunbarrel opening would have made the film perfect, it's just frustrating how they struggle to get a 20 second long sequence right. I guess the baby steps analogy of Craig's Bond evolving can also be applied the the gunbarrel sequence now, too.
