SPECTRE box office

Post by Kristatos »

Box Office Mojo is reporting a massive 68.8% second weekend dropoff for SPECTRE in the UK. Even QOS was below the magic 50% threshold! I may have to admit "defeat" to BJ in the over/under $1 billion argument, though I did say I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

SPECTRE box office

Post by Omega »

It's worse if you count it as tickets sold .

I think the us and China will determine if it hits a billion or not.

As I said in bj's thread sp is taking a much earlier slot and Star Wars got the late January slot which traditionally works with the Chinese golden week to sell a lot of tickets during their run
Also sp was ridiculously front loaded with big open week but not quite record breaking

It doesn't seem to be doing that well in the US either. But Britain is Bond's home turf, so for it to be performing so poorly here is somewhat remarkable.

I hope I was correct, in fact, by some outside chance, if it does Spiderman reboot numbers at $750 million worldwide, that would be beautiful. :!: This is such a poorly received film that it might be done in 1 month for anything significant at the box office in December for it. Broccoli has now 'jumped the shark', so to speak, as a producer, with Cr-egg in the lead. MGW might even wake up and tell her off.

They know it's a front loaded mess so they moved up all of the dates before it's rating goes much lower. After this weekend it's release is done except for South Africa, India and Japan.

Here is more on the China BO from deadline
This weekend will see the arrival in China of James Bond and Spectre, followed by The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 the next week and The Martian a week later. Those films have a good shot at breaking out of an increasingly congested market. But box office recently has dipped for the studios in China, and while that’s been the case in the U.S., we’re not talking about the kind of star-driven fare that was chasing mature moviegoers Stateside; those movies rarely make it to the Middle Kingdom.

Female 00s? Broccoli never thought of that. She is too busy emasculating James Bond.............the-numbers.com: 'In Germany it pulled in $18.06 million on 1,460 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $20.26 million. This is about 15% lower than Skyfall's opening in that market. Likewise, the film wasn't as strong during its debut in Russia earning $6.29 million on 2,112 screens, compared to $8.27 million on 1,254 screens for Skyfall. At this pace, Spectre will definitely fail to match Skyfall, but anything close to $800 million will be enough to break even, perhaps before it reaches the home market. It all depends on how much its global advertising campaign cost.'

Skyfall unadjusted* box office totals for the remaining territories:

China $59,234,352
India $10,949,569
South Africa (Entire region) $3,978,051
Japan $32,497,509

TOTAL $106,659,481

*=Box Office Mojo does not allow you to adjust international figures, as the different exchange rates and rates of inflation in different countries means that there is no reliable way to do so.

Edited to add: I've done a rough calculation of my own, by dividing the total by the average US ticket price in 2012 and multiplying it by the average price in 2015. The adjusted total by this method is $111,751,265 Add to that the current worldwide total of $302,261,709 and you get $414,012,974. Given its lacklustre word-of-mouth, I think a billion is going to be a stretch.

Well, it will drop off, that's all but certain, the question is by how much. Generally speaking, a second weekend drop of under 50% is considered healthy, anything over that, and the studios haz a sad.

I meant to imply worse than expected. Skyfall held d**n well, it doesn't look like this one will have the staying power previous Bonds had. Hunger Games and Star Wars should put a end to the usual hang around in the top ten for two months business.

FWIW My parents took the grand kids to see Charlie Brown yesterday, it was packed, the first showing was sold out, they peeked in and saw there were no seats to be had, the second showing 25 min later was the same. My old man would never of volunteered to take them if he had any idea it would be crowed. He thought movies in the middle of the day nobody will be there.

Peanuts might top ECH-TRE this weekend, just wait and see. If it drops to number 2 on the second weekend, it's all over faster than we expected.

BTW how did SP get a A- cinema score? Was it fanboys that flooded the first screenings?I know, EA, Sweeney and Kater loove it! I don't personally know that many who went to see it those I talk to who did were underwhelmed at best. I think its word of mouth that's killing it or maybe it just Craig's bad PR that still gets a few words in the reviews popping up.

For once, I'm going to be more optimistic/pessimistic (depending on your point of view) than BJ: $650 million.
