Rank the Bond decades

Post by Red Grant »

From your favorite to least, sure we've had 2 only this decade with 1 more to go but we can pretty much size it up.

60s- Everything was gravy good and perfectly blended. The brains and spirit of Fleming!!

70s- May not have had the brains but had that 60s spirit with the 60s directors coming back and their styles.

90s- Brosnan comes back and Bond means something again!

80s- Glen's workman style direction gave way to a bland and dull era for me, The Bonds were good albeit one too old, the other too serious. TLD only one i liked (NSNA is actually my favorite 80s lol but it's non-EON) though.

00s- The current decade... it is the pits. DAD was pretty good first 2/3 but became like xXx and now we have Bourne Royale. What the series once was an influence to other films has become the influenced.

60s- Created the original style and used the fashions of the day perfectly.

70s- Lovely Seveties feel, and they went mad towards the end.

80s- Calmed down a bit after the Seventies. Roger ended and the series was relaunched with two wonderful Tim movies - including a higher rated one in the style of the violent 80's action films.

90s- Brosnan relaunches Bond in a series of great typical Bond films.

00s- DAD fun but a bit strange. Barbara then scraps the formula (and the Bond series) and copies xXx, Bourne, Statham, Die Hard and Batman Begins.

60s- Bond was completely new, fresh, unique among action/adventure movies. Set a new standard with its daring content of sex and violence, and technical making, very fast editing for example. The films were fun but hard edged!

70s- Bond was somewhat out of fashion and the series was heavily inspired by other contemporary films, American car chase movies and comedy, blaxploitation, kung fu, while at the same time having pretty poor production values. 007 made a comeback in the late 70s with the huge and successful Spy and MR that captured some of the old magic, but were extremely tounge-in-cheek.

80s- Bond was still very lighthearted but the films became more inspired by contemporary politics and preached detente between east and west, something that had even begun in the late 70s. Moore was getting older and there seemed to be time for a change. Dalton entered and made an excellent 25th anniversary film that breathed new air into the franchise. This was a new type of Bond but the film still retained the old style and humour. The second Dalton entry wasn't as successful though and was too heavily influenced by the "muscle action" movies of the day.

90s-Brosnan was the new Bond and became extremely popular even though his films never felt original, just a mix of old clichés and Hollywood explosion movies. Bond tried to be Bond but couldn't recapture the old magic.

00s-Brosnan got the boot in a shameful way and a new weird 007, who had absolutely nothing in common with previous Bonds, entered the scene in a controversial and messy way. At first protests could be heard, but later on officially everybody from filmmakers to fans to mainstream audiences were absolutely delighted!

If only this was describing Casino Royale.

There are plenty of people who act as if this was the case. That care in the community scheme has a lot to answer for.

60's - New, fresh, Beatles-style ground-breaking, yet still remained true to Fleming. A new action hero, that launched the careers of sooo many...

70's - camp, OTT, gadget-laden, silly, comedy parodies

80's attempted to become more grounded

90's - camp, OTT, gadget-laden, silly, comedy parodies, while attempting to throw in deep, meaningful characterization at the same time, meaning they were even worse than the 70's films. At least they had a purpose and direction, not like this muddled, confused mess.

00's - hard to judge until 22 comes out. We have had the worst film ever made, followed by the best Bond film ever made, so the jury is still out, but judging by the signs, we could be in for a return to the Bondmania heights of the 60's again.
