Re: Worst/Daftest Moments of the Craig Era
Getting back to the topic of daftest moments in the Craig era.., here's another one that irked me.
In QoS after the maddeningly incoherent, and spastically-edited free-fall scene (actually filmed in the confines of a green-screened STUDIO SET for the all-important close-ups of Craig and Russian-chick), in which Our Hero and The Girl hit the hard ground with a massive THUD after breaking free of the opened-way-too-close-to-the-bottom parachute, do we get a tense closeup of Craig-Bond and The Girl recovering from the shock of the impact? Do we even get any reassurance that they're even alive, let alone any indication of whatever injuries were sustained in such a harrowing, life-threatening situation? Will their fates be revealed in the very next scene?
No. Instead we are shown a boring-ass meeting between M and some pompous British Official (after the establishing shot of her info-dumping assistant feebly chattering away) in which we are meant to THRILL at the POLITICAL INTRIGUE of how ALL the governments are corrupt and useless anyway because "if they didn't work with bad people, they wouldn't get anything done" and blah blah blah. Give me a #+*~!!ing break. WHO CARES about any of that $#!+ anyway? Cause I sure as hell didn't.

There's certainly nothing Flemingesque about it. Fleming was a product of a more deferential era when the assumption was that governments (or at least Western governments) were basically good and trustworthy. You can argue that "9/11 changed everything", but so did Watergate, and you never saw '70s Bond trying to keep up with All The President's Men in the paranoid thriller genre. The Sweeney wrote:Totally agree with this. Fleming's Bond was a patriot, he represented what was good about the western culture/world. He saved the damsel in distress, he protected the innocent, he in short was a hero. Not once can I say I eve felt this way once about Craig

US's defeat in Vietnam War and the Watergate incident are the reasons moviegoers wanted escapism in their lives.Kristatos wrote:You can argue that "9/11 changed everything", but so did Watergate, and you never saw '70s Bond trying to keep up with All The President's Men in the paranoid thriller genre.

Re: Worst/Daftest Moments of the Craig Era
That's absolutely right. Which brings me to the pretentious drivel of Skyfarce. Specifically, the whole sequence where Craig-Bond follows that mercenary "Patrice" in Shanghai and just lets him kill three people (two security guards and the guy in the other building) before that fancy-pants setpiece of fighting in the glass tower with the quasi-Pink Floyd light-show going on in the background before Craig-Bond drops the clown to his death without getting any information (again!) but is left with some goodies in dead guy's case to use later (the Macau casino chip).Mazer Rackham wrote:Fleming's Bond was a patriot, he represented what was good about the western culture/world. He saved the damsel in distress, he protected the innocent, he in short was a hero. Not once can I say I eve felt this way once about Craig
Sure it could be argued that if Patrice hadn't killed the target he was sent to hit, then Craig-Bond wouldn't have his "in" to meet doomed prostitute-lady later. But wouldn't those two or three flunkies that guarded her have killed the guy themselves if Patrice somehow failed to do it himself? In that case, those two security guards wouldn't have had to die if Craig-Bond had just gotten off his pouty-ass and taken out Patrice first, which would've had mostly the same results: Target in other building still killed off, but by the other goons. Patrice uncooperative and probably dies anyway (without the show-offy fall from the building). And Craig-Bond still recovers the casino chip from Patrice's case so he can meet Sever-what's-her-face and still be set upon by her goons anyway. But most of all, the two innocent security guards would still be alive, and that at least would've made Craig-Bond some kind of HERO. Instead, he's a lazy, washed-up, incompetent poser and a failure who couldn't give a $#!+.

Skyfall was a tedious bore with a preditable moronic plot centered around 2 people's Mommy Dearest obsession with Dench's M.

Re: Worst/Daftest Moments of the Craig Era
After Craig-Bond loses the wuv of his life Vesper and sobs over her drowned corpse in Casio Royal, we get the BIG REVEAL that Mr. White is not only watching this nauseating display of blubbering sentimentality from a safe distance, but is inexplicably holding the Big Suitcase full of the Casino Winnings that was seemingly washed away earlier without any explanation of how the immaculately tailored and un-drenched Mr. White managed to recover it so quickly and easily.
Sure Craig-Bond could claim a "moral" victory in tracking down Mr. White later so he could pout and preen that his name's "Bahndt, Jaymz Bahndt", but in the end THE BAD GUYS WON because all that money was brought back into the hands of the "organization" and probably returned to all of the international terrorist groups they were funding with no harm done by Le Cheef's mischief. Way to go, hero.

The soap opera-esque dialogue between Bond and Vesper in Casino Royale.
Vesper Lynd: "You're not going to let me in there, are you? You've got your armor back on, that's that."
James Bond: "I have no armor left. You stripped it from me. Whatever is left of me... Whatever is left of me, whatever I am... I'm yours."
