They showed a Battleship tie-in ad at the movie theater today. My brother turned to me and said "That looks like a Transformers ripoff".

BJ: lol we have different concepts of "Failure" for Spiderman. I think around $500 mln would be just fine.

I'm hoping Spidey reboot would be somewhere around $600-650 million.

Indeed. That would have made a lot more sense then what they ended up with, which as MP rightly says is just a Transformers clone. A World War II Battleship could have had some exciting naval battles, and used the "fog of war" to simulate the "guessing where you're firing" aspect of the game. I'm thinking of The Enemy Below with more ships and a more blockbusterish treatment. The result might not have been great, but it would have been a heck of a lot better than the "movie-by-committee" Universal ended up with.

I saw The Avengers last night. I liked it. Non-stop action and the time flew by. You would never know is was a 2 hour and 23 minute film. Downey seems to be too much Superman-like though, but it worked, it was fun, and that is what an action packed film is meant to be. Did all see the added 2 scenes during and after the credits at the end? Ale, who reboots an enormously successful Spiderman franchise grossing $900 million per film, where now it would be over $1 billion with ticket inflation, for some dorky looking scrawny Garfield The Cat? $500 million will be good? Compared to Superman Returns maybe, but NOT in the realm of Spiderman. I have yet to see another individual superhero film (aside from the Bat's second film, the first did nothing at the box office) garner the enthusiastic excitement that Maguire did for 3 films. Well it really depends what you're aiming for. A world War II movie could probably be made a lot more cheaply than for $200 million (all that cgi for the aliens doesn't help the budget). Would the movie make Transformers type big bucks? No. But it would be a distinctive product and could make a healthy profit, instead of the huge loss that Battleship is going to cause.

Incidentally, Taylor Kitch has now been in two successive movies that have lost a lot of money, John Carter and now Battleship. Maybe he can hit up Daniel Craig for career advice about what to do once you've worn out your welcome making blockbusters . . .

I think kitch might be a decent actor but his movies are too expensive by half. Battleship looks like it is Transformers without the transformers who wants that? Michael Bay I can live without. So Id go for Transformers with out Michael bay, why doesn't Medes direct a Transformers movie next, can't wait for the B&W teaser posters At least the title Skyfall would make sense.

I grew up on WWII adventure films like The Guns of Navarone and Kelly's Heroes and would love to see that genre revived. But I honestly don't see it happening. The crucial 18-35 audience simply isn't interested.

Looks like more pretentious po-faced twaddle. Just more or less what we expected I think. Nothing in that trailer says James Bond to me.

It follow the outline we read earlier but besides seeing it the worst pat is the music. Completely wrong for James Bond but it it obvious this isn't a James Bond film not when he looks like reject from the police academe wearing the PA track suit failing the rorschach.
From the poster and trailer the signal is clear this is a pretentious art house QOS film but taking it to the next level where it supposed top mean something and be all emotional.

It going to be another move where they try to add deep meaning to every little thing and it is going to suck because of it.

That trailer is awful. Sam Mendes didn't direct that, Michael Bay did(and yes, I know there's plenty of stuff that gets blown up in Bond films, but this...)

I've had a lot of fun taking the P*ss out of QOS and Craig, Luckily with this Trailer. I can see there will
be much more material to laugh at from Skyfail, It has the look of a straight to DVD classic
