'Bond 22' Director Rumors

Who will fill in for Martin Campbell?

LatinoReview has done pretty well with the scoops lately and so I am going to go ahead and post this latest little rumor from the devious Latinos over there as they seem to have an idea on who may be up to direct the next film in the Bond series, which is carrying the most distinguished title right now: James Bond 22. You like that don't yah?
The site tells us that four directors met up with the producers to take the job and they include Marc Forster, Tony Scott, Alex Proyas and Jonathan Mostow.

Forster (pictured) seems to be the site's front-runner for the position, which seems to be an odd choice based on his latest films which include Stranger than Fiction, Stay and Finding Neverland.

As for the others, I don't see Tony Scott's sporadic style being a good mix with the Bond tradition and Mostow has never really seemed all that capable to me, but Alex Proyas might be an interesting choice. Proyas seems to have that dark edge to him and the ability to direct action in a serious way that could really fit well with the Bond style Martin Campbell left off with in Casino Royale.

Proyas last directed I, Robot, which gives you an idea of his action directing style, but from a purely storytelling and mood aspect take into consideration Dark City and The Crow. Yeah, I think this guy would be a good choice. Forster certainly has the chops with his Oscar tradition, but I am not sure he can bring the action to the table someone like Proyas could.

Let's wait and see, and stay tuned as LatinoReview says they will soon have a script review for the 22nd film, which is being penned by Casino Royale scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

I'd personally like to see Christopher Nolan lend his hand to directing a Bond film. His success with memento and the Prestige is without question. Perhaps this might be an option for Bond 24 with a certain Mr Bale on board.

Nolan would seem to be a good choice, though he has his hands full right now with another franchise it would appear.
As for Forster, well his CV is impressive and he gets good performances from his actors. My only concern would be can he handle the action side of it all. I realise there is a second unit for the action, but the director still has an input.
I'd be happy if he were given the job. Of the four mentioned this week, I'd place Forster top.

I don't agree with any of you. I'd love it to be Tony Scott!!

Domino was pretty d**n bad, but he has come back on form with Deja Vu, which is superb!

Spy Game and Enemy of the State were both excellent films, so was Crimson Tide. I think Tony Scott would be a great choice.

Yes, some of his films were good, despite his over-flashy, attention-seeking directorial style, but given the spottiness of his record, there's no way of predicting whether a Scott-directed Bond 22 would be another Enemy of the State or another Beverly Hills Cop 2.

Cop 2 wasn't that bad. The script was bad, but I thought the directing was ok. Scott went through a period of having filtered lenses, sunset shots with car headlamps in the foreground, venetian blinds, room lamps, fans on roofs, blue interior lighting, exterior orange glow lighting, people with tans, Ray Ban shades, sweating, close-ups, cool expressions, etc.

I must admit to enjoying most of Tony Scott's movies. Having said that, I'm not sure he would be right for a Bond movie. His style is too action orientated without much character and story depth. (Probably be perfect for a Rookie, blunt special agent, who has a blatant disregard for orders).

True Romance was alright. The torture scene between Walken and Hopper was much better than the one in Casino Royale. My main problem with Scott is that most of his films seem bathed in an orange light for some reason.

It seems likely, but then I also heard that the Olsen twins were going to appear.
No one has been announced as the director. Yet. Never say never.

What's the difference? Even if they brought back Hitchcock from the dead it would still suck with Craig as Bond.

Besides, old Hitch already made a near-Bond film called North by Northwest.
