Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
The Last Avatar animated was awesome start to finish. How M. Night got it is a crime there has got to be at least 10 other directors who could have done right by the story.

I was going to see the movie version of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but because of the horrid reviews, I decided to watch the original animated series instead which I already did. Now I'm a die-hard fan.

Inception has spanked the last 2 bond movies and it is not finished by a long shot.
Before classes start up we are doing a weekend marathon, a mix of HD downloads (don't hate me
) and bly-rays TLD-CR. We'll see how the movies fair this time round.

M. Night is behind a new movie called Devil that's coming out. Not directing, mind-a "M. Night Shamalamadingdong presents" deal.

What the hell happen to M Night Shyamalan? His movies got worse and worse after The Sixth Sense.

I guess he only had one great movie in him.FormerBondFan wrote:What the hell happen to M Night Shyamalan? His movies got worse and worse after The Sixth Sense.

Was it shot on hand-held cameras? It didn't look like it to me. Anyway, it did have one of the greatest twist endings of all time.bjmdds wrote:A hand held camera film was great?

I hate to be a downer on Inception, at $160m the budget is what I consider in the vague neighborhood of reasonable. Except it is not a $160m film. WB spent over $200m on production. Break it down like I do for any other movie too see a clearer picture.
Right about now Inception should break even.
WB gets about 55% of the gross BO back from theaters, $341m, guess about $300m cost with promotions and other considerations, leaves about $41m as profit so far. Except Nolan and DiCaprio are getting gross points, probably amounts to another 15 or 20% off the top. This deal also includes DVD and television sales.
No doubt Inception will make money but it is not as cut and dry as the headlines would have us believe. It is a better business model than the last few Bond movies were made under but sadly not an entirely healthy one either.

It really did have a great ending-and he hasn't done anything NEARLY as good since. FCOL- I figured out the twist 10 minutes into The Village. Not very scary, either. Was it shot on hand-held cameras? It didn't look like it to me. Anyway, it did have one of the greatest twist endings of all time.

I so wanted the "monster" in The Village to say "And I'd have gotten away with it too if it hadn't been for you meddling kids" when he was unmasked.katied wrote:It really did have a great ending-and he hasn't done anything NEARLY as good since. Wasn't Cloverfeld(A.K.A The Shakycam movie
) done on handhelds as well? I don't get motion sick, but I avoided watching Blair Witch. Same for Cloverfeld(though from what I have heard I didn't miss much!)

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I'd rate Cloverfield higher than Blair Witch. Although it masqueraded as a monster movie, it was pretty obvious from the outset that it was really about 9/11, and it did a good job of conveying what that terrible day must have been like for ordinary New Yorkers.katied wrote:Wasn't Cloverfeld(A.K.A The Shakycam movie) done on handhelds as well? Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Fall classes begin today, summer party is over. We did manage to get through most of the Bond movies but it was not the same marathon we did before. Jobs and girlfriends interrupted the schedule. Maybe it means we are growing up
A few stray thoughts, The Living Daylights holds up pretty well I liked it more this time round. Good introduction to a new Bond, this and GoldenEye have some artful maneuvering they can say yes we know it is a new guy but don't really think about it because all that you liked best about Bond will be even better with them. The first half hour or so you felt safe with them as Bond and believed they were Bond despite knowing the series has been around when our grandma's were still in high school.

QOS is still on Showtime which I am getting free for 3 months. Zu Zu Petals and I can no longer watch a solitary moment of it, even to watch how poor it is. Intolerable Bond film.
