BJ, it's fine to think Craig is not suitable for the role as Bond, especially as you have viewed both movies to confirm for yourself whether he was right or not.

But the whole life preserver thing was not a reason for saying he wasn't suitable to play Bond. It was comments like those which undermined the whole CraignotBond campaign in the first place, caused ridicule among the MI6 and CBn forums, and gave no credibility to the cause whatsoever.

The life preserve was none of Craig's doings anyway. Safety policy, insurance, whatever it was. But how any actor behaves off-screen should not reflect whether he is suitable or not for a role. Any actor been chosen for Bond would have had to wear a life preserve that day, even if your beloved Jackman was chosen.

I know the truth hurts Sweenster, but you are so wrong on this one. If CR-egg was so deathly afraid of the boat speed, Eon should have had him drive up in an Aston Martin, open the door in the center area of the press core, step out, and reveal himself as the 6th, and poorest excuse of a Bond ever. Exiting the boat saying 'they scared the s--t out of me' was so uncouth and not proper words to utter as he was introduced as Bond. It did cause a stir, and no way you would have seen Jackman wearing that ridiculous vest while clutching onto the railing with that death grip Craig used. It set him up as the Eon stooge and patsy he is. You may be Lady GaGa-ed over him but we are not. The clock is ticking on his days as Bond Sweeney. Get used to it. He's going down, and fast, and so is Eon with him on board. Aside from the shills at MI6 and CB.net, the only base he has are 'grunge' teens who relate to him as one of their own. Shameful, but a poor sign of these times.

I have to agree with BJ that "they scared the s*** out of me" is not a very good first impression to make. On the other hand, life vests have the ability to make anyone look a bit silly!

Sometimes BJ I think you talk sense, and come across as intelligent, but then you go and say something silly like what I highlighted in bold and I have to wonder again. Your hatred towards him is starting to make you twisted like never before - to the state where you are not making any sense.

Firstly, the life vest was a compulsary policy. Any actor out there on the Thames would have had to wear that vest. Read this for further proof, but I shouldn't really have to spell this out for you -
Craig arrived at the press conference in a Royal Marines speedboat, wearing a beautiful Italian suit by Brioni, but the effect was ruined by the bulky orange lifejacket he was forced to wear and his white-knuckled grip on the boat rail.

Secondly, who cares how he behaves off-screen. He can swear like a trooper for all I care. He can wear life vests at press conferences for all I care. Connery used to hit women, but it didn't stop me liking him as Bond. How an actor behaves off-screen in no way should reflect whether he is suitable for the role or not.

The comment wasn't particularly appropiate, so yes, not a good first impression.

The life vest was sooooo obviously an insurance policy, that any actor would be forced to wear (see above).

I understand the need for the life jacket.. God forbid something happened to the boat and he died before he was introduced as the next Bond!

Thanks Katied for a sanity check. You are not as blinded as BJ is. I've edited my post above. Read the link.....it states Craig was forced to wear it.
I thought this would have been obvious to anyone with the tiniest bit of common sense. Even the military guys riding the boat were wearing life jackets.

I've been on enough boats to know they're pretty much mandatory-save for cruise ships and only then in a emergency.

I'm sure...but then whoever decided to stage the publicity stunt in the first place should have thought, at some point during the preparations, "nice idea, but the life vest spoils the effect, so let's stage a press conference on land instead".

Having the press conference on dry land would have been too half a**ed for Eon!

Craig was pathetic coming off that boat!Seasick and whining.Appropriate for what he would degrade bond to.

The only person who looks like Craig is the seasick photographer at the front of the boat

Much better. The unveiling of Craig just appeared a bit naff and obvious I think, especially as they'd done the speed boat on the Thames thing with Brosnan in TWINE, the last but one Bond film at the time. Then the berk said the word "s**t" despite the fact he was live on some lunchtime news broadcasts over here.

Sweeney thinks I make no sense. He just does not get it. I am more objectionable about CR-egg now because this farce must end and that photo posted here proved my point. You do not introduce a Bond in that venue.

You admit my point. Case closed. Poor impression. That is why Eon kept him quiet most of the press conference.

True..but I have the feeling that a regular press conference-IOW not one where your new James Bond *doesn't* arrive by boat- would have been second class by Babs' standards. :D

Eh??? I was debating your original point about Craig wearing the vest. You thought he was wearing it by choice, whereas Jackman would have been bold enough to not wear it, which was just rubbish....I quote you -
and no way you would have seen Jackman wearing that ridiculous vest
You didn't get the point that the life vest was mandatory, and any actor playing Bond would have had to wear that - even Jackman, who you are obsessed with.

Agreed. I thought the whole thing was quite naff, and Craig does not come off well at these conferences anyway. I actually agree with everyone here.

But this should in no way shape or form be the basis to judge an actor for a role he plays in a movie. Like I said earlier, judge him all you want in the films themselves, sure, there you have real basis for debate.

But judging whether he is appropiate for a role by the fact that he wears a mandatory life vest in a speedboat is pure pathetic.
