Dr. No!
I though it was pretty good. Better than CR and it had elements of humor in it (see my sig) and a fun locations and villin and girl.

Out of half of Live and Let Die, From Russia With Love, Dr. No and a bit of Goldfinger. My vote goes to the good Doctor.

Doc, I Respectfully disagree with you on this.
While the first part of Doctor No is beautifully crafted the ending is rushed. From the monitored maze, monster escape, then to the killing of Doctor No it is all a blur and uncharacteristic poorly described.
The Spy Who Lover Me is plain ol' too weird to be a favorite. A good read for any Fleming fan, definitely something different.
Thunderball helped to set up the formula Bond movies and books would follow for years as well as introducing the best know villain in the series. I'll give it my vote just for that, although YOLT is a very pleasurable read as well.

In my opinion On Her Majesty's Secret Service & You Only Live Twice are two of Ian's better tomes. Choosing between the two I have to say OHMSS.

Moonraker is one of my favourites. I like the location on the coast and the book has a good atmosphere.

OH no! DR NO has been bumped from the lead!
I like the story and obviously the book and movie made an impression on me.
I guess it is kind of rushed when Dr no is killed, but I thought it was a good ending.
I guess what I'm saying is when you step in to that voting booth think NO

It's been ages since I read any of Fleming's books, but I think Casino Royale, Live and Let Die, FRWL, OHMSS were some I liked

I voted for Moonraker (I forgot to mention it!). I think Hugo is a great villian. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is wonderful too. I do like the foodie bits at the start of Thunderball.

Re: Poll: What is your favourite Fleming Bond novel?
For me it changes overtime. Sweeney and I were talking about the books awhile back I mentioned The Man with the Golden Gun was one of my lease favourite of Ian books. It wasn't always so I think reading the criminally dry Devil May Care then reading TMWTGG again soured it for me. Part of the joy of reading one of Ian books is the flourishes and polishes he added. Sadly Ian never finished the book properly.stockslivevan wrote:Moonraker, although From Russia with Love comes close.

Re: Poll: What is your favourite Fleming Bond novel?
I never got to finish TMWTGG. Not that it was bad, I just never got around to finishing it. Heck I don't think I past chapter 2. I have no intention of reading the post-Fleming novels. From bits I've read they felt too much like imitations. I've never read a Raymond Benson Bond novel, but I have read one of his non-Bonds and it was absolutely dreadful. Zero imagination, just character lines and generic "he walked to the door". Fleming actually TRANSPORTED you to his Bond's world and adventures. Such as in FRWL, there was the meeting with the Russian general about what SMERSH would be assigned, it's one of the best examples of Fleming not only being so detailed but imaginative.

John Gardner's are ok, although they are like general spy novels where the hero happens to be called James Bond.
