Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I just watched Fantastic Beasts:The Secrets Of Dumbledore. I can see why it bombed so badly at the box office with a $200 million budget and only taking in a paltry $401 million WORLDWIDE. The first film did $812 million and the second did $654 million worldwide. I almost dozed off watching it midway through as it was a boring and tedious waste of time. The emphasis on the love relationship between the two lead wizards is NOT what people care about in seeing a Harry Potter prequel. Rowling went woke with Dumbledore and now she is paying the price at the diminishing box office return. Eddie Redmayne ranks as one of the worst actors out there and his mumbling is annoying to the point you do not know what he is saying. The franchise is in big trouble. The producers probably expected the Potter teens to flock as 20 somethings now to see this. They were quite wrong. If you require a nap, watch it, or else AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

According to a report by Geek Tyrant, Titanic director James Cameron firmly believes that the character of James Bond is a “scumbag” and not worthy of screen time. Based on Bond’s relationships with alcohol and with women, Cameron doesn’t exactly care for the action films of the franchise as much as international audiences have. Not embracing the character, Cameron has been known to dislike Bond for his womanizing ways, particularly because he feels that Bond is a fantasy type of character for male viewers of the franchise. https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/ent/j ... umbag.html

Are you going to see the new Elvis biopic, BJ? I read a review which said that the guy playing Elvis was great, but that the movie won't really tell fans anything they don't already know. I suspect it is aimed at younger audiences, who may not be as familiar with him.

I intend to. I am not a Tom Hanks fan but he won't stop me from seeing it at some point. I have seen every movie Elvis made many times and every tv movie made about him over the years, from Kurt Russell's portrayal to Don Johnson and others. Elvis lives on like no other deceased singer/actor that ever lived. It will be 45 years since his death August 16th.Kristatos wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 11:22 am Are you going to see the new Elvis biopic, BJ? I think it probably needed a star like Hanks to attract investors, given that the lead is relatively unknown.

Got to love the Hollywood hypocrisy, a fictional character is called "immoral" for having multiple relationships by a man who's been married 5 times!

Well, he directed True Lies, where the protagonist was a happily married man. So these comments shouldn't come as a surprise.dirtybenny wrote: So I guess he won't directing for EON anytime soon?

The Kinks rocker Ray Davies is refusing to watch the new James Bond movie because he is convinced Daniel Craig is not tall enough to play the superspy.
"I'm still into schoolboy adventure with heroes and villains, that's what James Bond is. They're trying to make him psychological... It doesn't interest me".

For those who are unable to access the link, for whatever reason, the "new James Bond movie" at the time was Skyfall.bjmdds wrote:The Kinks rocker Ray Davies is refusing to watch the new James Bond movie because he is convinced Daniel Craig is not tall enough to play the superspy.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson have said they are “still on the hunt” for the next 007, joking it is unfortunate that “perfect candidate” the Duke of Cambridge is unavailable for the role. The film-making siblings picked up their CBEs from William at Buckingham Palace on Friday. Ms Broccoli has produced the last nine Bond films, including Casino Royale, Skyfall and most recently No Time To Die, with her brother, and she said it was a “huge honour” to accept a CBE from the duke.
She added that “unfortunately, the person we just met isn’t available” for the top job in the franchise.
Ms Broccoli said: “He’s occupied, unfortunately, but he would be the perfect candidate, ticks all the boxes.
“But he’s not available, sadly. So we’re still on the hunt.” Asked whether the pair have a favourite Bond film, Mr Wilson said: “We like all of them. We always find something great in every film, especially, you know, the different actors who’ve done magnificent films.
“I think, in our hearts, we believe that at least one of their films is outstanding, if not several.”
The duo own Eon productions, a family business which was founded by their father, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, and Ms Broccoli described the pair working together as “a good team, brother and sister team”.
She added: “It’s very smooth when we’re working together. It’s only around the dinner table that we have disagreements!”
Ms Broccoli described the British film industry as “the greatest in the world”, and, as she reflected upon her career which has spanned four decades, she said: “’I’ve loved working in this industry.
“It’s just the most incredible job to have and, you know, you meet the most extraordinary people and making these films is such a privilege.”

Thanks for clarifying Kris, amazing he said that so late in Craig's run, I had assumed it was Casino.Kristatos wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 4:08 pmFor those who are unable to access the link, for whatever reason, the "new James Bond movie" at the time was Skyfall.bjmdds wrote:The Kinks rocker Ray Davies is refusing to watch the new James Bond movie because he is convinced Daniel Craig is not tall enough to play the superspy.

I just watched the 'strange' Dr. Strange film and I cannot believe it has grossed $945 million so far worldwide. It was aptly named "Madness". It was utterly ridiculous to me. When it is on television in the future, I will most definitely pass on it.

The author behind the bestselling Young Bond book series has criticised the most recent 007 film for portraying the spy as a committed family man.
Charlie Higson said the opening scenes of No Time To Die – a car chase through the Italian town of Matera – are 'great' at first, but accused script-writers of undermining Bond's character by showing him arguing with his girlfriend as he drives.
The author joked that 007 should have triggered her ejector seat and resumed his adventure. 'Bond is a fantasy, he's got no wife, no kids, you rarely see him at home, he lives in hotels, eats in restaurants, sleeps with as many women as he wants and gets to kill people,' Higson told the Chalke Valley History Festival, which is sponsored by the Daily Mail.
'It's the best job in the world. You never see him mowing his lawn, washing his car or asking his bank manager for a loan. He's one guy on a mission.
'You don't have to worry about a back story or any boring discussions with his girlfriend. Which is why I absolutely hate No Time To Die. They put in all the boring stuff you don't want.
'The start of the film is great – he's in a really flash car, having a car chase around Matera. But he's got his girlfriend with him and they're having a row. What kind of fantasy is that? Find the ejector seat button, get rid of her and have an adventure.'

No worries, I just thought it possibly offered an interesting insight into what attracted him to True Lies. Then again, I don't see why EON wouldn't snap him up, given Funkichicken's comments about Bond being a rapist.dirtybenny wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 5:23 pm I intended it as a joke considering the strong comments about the character, I guess it didn't land

I must confess, I wasn't that interested, not being an Elvis fan (or at least not to the extent that you are). We saw it today, predictable but it delivered what makes these movies fun. The same way bond movies used to be fun.
New twist was taking some of the best spy movie chases and doing it with Dinos

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Since this ridiculous 'multiverse' is the current rage, perhaps Bezos can do a '007:Mulitiverse Of Lunacy', where we have a 'true' Bond in one universe and Broccoli's version in another, with a different actor in the 'true' one of course, who actually looks like James Bond.
