what about Sam Clafin as Bond? He's the right age, a good actor, and would look the part with the right haircut. I'd prefer Cavill or Turner but you know what Barbara is like. She'll overthink this and not choose the obvious candidates.

Barbara said he is not suitable as he is handsome and looks a bit like the traditional James Bond.

I have come across this article and Barbara Broccoli has explained parameters for casting next actor.

"He should be British, so British can be any [ethnicity or race]," she said. "I think one of the successes of Bond is that it isn't afraid to change with the times.”

It is from this article: https://www.menshealth.com/entertainmen ... ethnicity/

For me, it is a statement of hope.

My preference is in this order: Dev Patel, Henry Golding, Harry Styles

Unless I see this in Bond 26 (which I know it won't happen), I won't watch the d**n thing.

Turns out Dev Patel does not want to be James Bond. Oh well. Yet he also explains he will play David Copperfield in a new movie. That will be interesting. It is here in this article.

The David Copperfield movie came out in 2019, and this article is dated August 2020.

Thank you for correcting. And I have checked my streaming service. They have it. I am curious to watch it.

I still think Tom Ellis would be a good choice. I think he has charisma and deserves better than the crap Lucifer turned into after a while.

Can we talk about Regé-Jean Page? I don't overly concern myself with odds making, but it does seem like smart money is gravitating towards the actor. I was surprised to see so many express their vehement displeasure with the idea in an 007EverythingOrNothing Instagram post reporting his consideration gaining steam. Unsurprisingly, the comment section of said post devolved into some pretty overt racism.

To my understanding, this forum recoiled at Daniel Craig's Bond because he went against type. What do you all think about Page as Bond? I, for one, think he will be the guy, and he has my full support.

I don't know enough about him to have an opinion one way or the other, I am not opposed to a black actor taking the role, but then again I am an American without a national "identity." I don't know if I trust EON productions enough to give us a black actor in the role without it becoming "black" Bond (see Halle Berry's dialog in DAD, "Yo Mama!"). I think there are some non racist arguments for maintaining a white actor in the role, however I will say if you are 100% behind Craig in the role, but bristle against a black actor as Bond you are definitely suspect.

I've slightly changed my mind on this. At one time, I would have said that whiteness was more central to Bond's identity than any other character in contemporary popular fiction. Not in a white supremacist way, but because he is a creature of the establishment; an old Etonian Oxbridge graduate who has enjoyed all the privileges that whiteness brings with it. Changing him into someone who would have almost certainly experienced racism first-hand is to change the character.

But our current Chancellor of the Exchequer (and possible next Prime Minister), Rishi Sunak, is of Indian descent, born in Southampton to Indian parents who had immigrated from Tanzania, and I don't think anyone would argue that he was any less establishment than Bond. So perhaps the time has come.

Besides, as I have said before, I am slightly biased towards him because he once appeared in my friend Laura Kidd's music video. I have posted the video on this forum before, but would have to dig to find it again.

Someone on Reddit (of all places) said it best. Casting a black actor wouldn't just change his skin tone. His background as it is would not hold water anymore. Bond isn't "only" a former Etonian and an Oxbridge graduate he also comes from a noble(I hope that's the correct term) family-their motto and all. I just don't see why his whole background should be erased for some "bravo for being woke" praise. People who hate Bond for everything that he represents still won't pay to watch it in the cinema because he'd still be a straight man-just not a white one anymore. People who'd want a black Bond have the tendency to ask "Well what is wrong with Bond being black?". I could ask you the opposite-what is wrong with him being white? People treat like something that should be "fixed".

I'm not sure that he comes from nobility, though he does have an ancestral home in Scotland (mentioned in James Bond: The Authorised Biography by John Pearson, though not specifically named as Skyfall there) and, as you say, a family motto. Yeah, I hadn't really taken that into account.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson now 2-1 at the big betting sites. I even saw a Twitter post claiming it's a done deal and he will be unveiled next year.
