That's something nobody could ever say about Daniel Craig. Well, maybe Babbzy could, but nobody else.

I think she did the best she could with the material she was given.

Granted, the script didn't do her any favors but she didn't exactly elevate the material either (IMO). If anything, Rosamund Pike came off as a much better actress in the movie despite the fact that was her first (or one of) movie role ever (granted she was also given better lines and material in general)
At the time Halle Berry was a Vanity A-list get for the producers, and also not supposed to be “just another Bond girl”

She did call him "the most beautiful man in the world" at one point, didn't she? I mean, tastes vary and all that but come on Barbara.

Just goes to show the power he wielded over this woman. This was a particularly telling line to me: "...I’m sure there is someone I have to talk to about that before I go offering directors jobs..."

Her authorization, the owner of the company, the producer of the films, the writer of the checks was only an after thought to him!

It's lucky he doesn't go out drinking with Uwe Boll or Tommy Wiseau.

Screenrant.com's Paul Shirey: Bond producer Michael G. Wilson has said that the Bond films weren’t one big film series but rather a “series of series," which creates an interesting through-line for the series, allowing fans to connect each Bond actor at their own whim, rather than having them line up to any specific timeline or series of events.............While Craig's run was a strong and unique one, it also had its drawbacks. For some, the interconnected nature didn't work and robbed the series of the fun that had dominated the franchise up to that point. The Craig films also focused on a sense of realism, aping The Bourne Identity style of more grounded action and spectacle, avoiding the more cartoonish nature of previous entries. However, the danger in that is that it ignores the fact that those aspects are every bit a part of what helped create the lore of Bond.................The simplest and most effective means of continuing Bond past the Craig era is to return to its roots. Just as prior Bond films did before, Bond 26 should begin with 007 already established and in continuity without the unnecessary burden of origins and introductions. After 60 years and 25 films, audiences are well aware of who Bond is, what his characteristics are, what his drink order is, and what is M.O. is. Getting back into the "series of series" explanation from Wilson, Bond simply needs to appear, intact and with all of his known characteristics, and get on with the show. The new Bond actor, whoever it may be, should be settled and ready to assume the mantle without missing a beat, simply carrying on as if he's been Bond for years. Bond 26 can set itself apart well enough with a new actor in the role, but hiring a filmmaker that can put a unique spin on things is also an aspect that shouldn't be ignored, as both the actor and director can do most of the heavy lifting in charting a new, yet familiar, course for Bond. Similar to Batman, James Bond is about the character more so than the actor playing him, so paying attention to what makes him special, unique, and everlasting is what Bond 26 should be all about.

It does, but it's just some guy's opinion. It doesn't mean EON will listen.

Yvette Mimieux, who found stardom in the early 1960s portraying delicate, fragile women in “The Time Machine,” “Where the Boys Are” and other films, died on Monday night at her home in Los Angeles. She was 80. Her death was confirmed by Michelle Bega, a family spokeswoman. She did not specify a cause.

A little something for Goldeneye/Brosnan fans. I can't say I wholeheartedly agree with every single point, but hits the nail on the head 99.9%

I remember the build up to Goldeneye. The anticipation was electric, especially after the lacklustre response to Licence to Kill, which failed to live up to the promise that Dalton's debut in The Living Daylights had created. The revisionists forget that before Goldeneye the franchise was in real trouble. It was the casting of the public's #1 choice for the role (Pierce Brosnan) that really revived the franchise and made it viable for the future.

Absolutely Irony! Brosnan brought the franchise back from the underwhelming LTK.

Thanks for sharing, Benny! I love GoldenEye above all things, particularly when TTD is directly the opposite of wht tht film represents.

Not only the forget that, some downright deny Brosnan and GoldenEye saved the franchise when even people at MGM/UA (the ones I contacted to write my book) admitted that. Even John Cork did, and he wrote Bond books sanctioned by EON in the early 2000s. But then again, for them, the franchise began with Craig and Bond was always an assassin who went on killing sprees as in GTA, brutally raped women, had drugs and, most importantly, wanted to die since he was born!

There are also the revisionist that went on saying GE was "a woke film" because of Judi Dench' M comments, which is absolutely ridiculous. Having talked with someone involved with the script, he told me the "sexist, misogynist dinosaur" line was a way to underline how women were more powerful in the 90s and how Bond "didn't fit" into the 90s, but done cheerfully. "The world changed, Bond didn't". It wasn't a flag-waving of women rights as people make out to be. And -as I pointed out in For England, James (https://goldeneyedossier.wixsite.com/forenglandjames), Bond's rejection towards the new M is not too much because she's a woman but because she's a civillian far from the style of someone like Sir Miles Messervy. Had Mission: Impossible's William Donloe been Bond's boss, he would have probably felt the same contempt he initially felt for Judi's M.

GoldenEye's message was that Bond was great as he is. We still need him to save the world in a era where a computer can do anything or the Cold War is over. GE is a triumphalist, colorful, seductive and dynamic movie. The kind of film tht tells you: "Get ready, you're in for something different" to the kid that played with Power Rangers toys. The kind of film who compelled you to become an adult, that made you desire women as I have desired Famke Janssen since I was 8. A film that makes you want to live, not that promotes misery, defeat and suicide just like that mis-named "James Bond film" we saw months ago.

I'm gonna defend LTK a bit. I loved at at the time, less so in retrospect, but even there, I suspect other people's negative assessment of it has spoiled my enjoyment, rather than any great change of heart on my part. I don't think anyone is denying that it was a flop by Bond standards, but detailed information exists on the proposed third Dalton film, The Property of a Lady. It wasn't LTK's poor box office alone that caused the 6-year delay before the next film, and if it hadn't been for MGM's legal woes, they would have just dialled back the grimdark and restored some of the humour and fantasy to Bond. That's how it's been pretty much throughout the series' history, whenever it pulls too far in one direction, the next film attempts a course correction.

Having said that, a 2- or 3-year gap between films instead of 6 years might have blunted Goldeneye's impact somewhat, who knows?

Meat Loaf, the larger-than-life rocker whose 1977 debut, “Bat Out of Hell” — a campy amalgam of hard rock and Broadway-style bombast — became one of the best-selling albums of all time, died on Thursday. He was 74. His death was confirmed by his manager, Michael Greene. A cause of death was not given.
