The only thing I see good about this so far is it rattled Hollywood who thought they had a good handle on the situation and could count on mindless drones to buy tickets to bond.

In their defense if skyfall was the biggest to date and audiences did revolt of spectre and QOS I can see why they’d assume it was Bullet proof. But bond was so slow in production I think it’s just now catching up to the backlash they earned earlier, start wars and Batman were not immune to modern temperamental audience

The common sense coining out of this is bond needs to change to get their audience back. So far they are not blaming the pandemic as the cause, not when there are success stories. If it drop off going forward the narrative may change again

The spin doctors keep using the lie that NTTD underperformed due to people in the USA being reluctant to go to the movies. Really? Well, Black Widow, Disney and Marvel's superhero adventure film starring Scarlett Johansson, scored $80 million in its first weekend and hit the milestone of being the biggest box office debut of the pandemic. The score doesn't even include people who streamed the film from home for $30 on Disney Plus. Black Widow audiences featured a lot more "families" with children, according to the Wall Street Journal. Other recent releases like Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Venom: Let There Be Carnage have also drawn in" higher" box office numbers and featured younger audiences. Adults had NO problem taking their children to the theatres to see other films. If they wanted to see Cr-egg's demise as Bond they would have done so as well. The reason for the poor response is a poor film with a rotten plot, with a lead actor who hated what he was doing!

Dailymail: 'Long-awaited James Bond movie No Time To Die makes a disappointing $56m in its opening weekend in the US - compared to $35m in the UK (which has five times fewer people and no vaccine or mask mandates).'--------- It looks like people in the UK keep appreciating Broccoli whereas the people in the USA have had enough of her garbage: Image

A few places are saying hey take a hard look at the franchise.
US BO is bad, covid or no, UK I’m not sure if it’s good or bad. $35 million seems pretty big for there.

The actual total of $55,225,007 in the USA must be sending chills down Broccoli's spine finally. The overhyped expectations were never attained and it fell incredibly short of their wishful thinking. The word of mouth will keep this down and a steep drop off should be seen next week.

I really hope so. I've never wanted a Bond film to tank so badly.

It feels like Babs has been taking liberties with the franchise, taking the fans for fools. We can kill him off, and then claim he'll return again for the next one, don't worry.

The only plausible way this could have been handled is leaving the death ambiguous - did he die, didn't he die. Leaving it open wouldn't bring in these huge question marks for the next film. I honestly don't think Cubby would have agreed to this.

You don't mess about and kill off a 60 year old franchise so flippantly and expect to keep all the fans on board, in the hope they just accept anything you throw at them and they'll buy it so easily.

It feels like this was Babs and Craig's last throw of the dice before selling out to Amazon, so they decided to burn it to the ground, go out all guns blazing, to hell with whatever happens next.

Babs didn’t know they d be sold to Amazon unless this is a lost minute reshoot

Mgm did seem desperate to find a buyer before the movie came out, but that could just be selling expectations vs reality

I do believe Babs and Craig were ok with burning down the franchise, their egos were what mattered. Nobody but Babs wanted Craig not even mgw, Sony, mgm. I always thought she acted the way she did with Craig because of this, but she may have just been in lust and incompetent this whole time,
Her choice for bond in goldeneye was Sean bean and I like Sean bean and admit he’s had a hell of a career. But cubby was right and she was wrong.

for Craig it makes sense to kill bond he thinks he defines who bond is with soap operas Ian Fleming and cubby would be horrified at. Jackman got to define wolverine, Christian Bale Batman, Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man, Craig figured he could define bond because he was the (unbelievable) rookie bond and then washed up bond, then dead bond. A secret agent who quit his job 3 out of 5 movies, and every plot was a personal mission for bond not his country.

Honestly Babs should have fired Craig back when he first bad mouthed the series not act like a “bride on her honeymoon”.

I think part of the bad bo despite covid is the audience move on a long time ago and Babs was out of touch to such an extent she never caught on. I think cubby was scared to be out of touch so kept adding new elements, locations, Bond girls, and gadgets. He definitely would not cast Craig and would fire him the first moment he mouthed off.

My hope now is that they treat this era as 5 movie stand alone series that is not related to the classic era.

Let's be honest, the need to reboot Bond in the first place is a periodic response the series has done to redress the need for every movie to top the preceding ones and the tendency to replay what had worked before (which is inevitable with a series with the history of Bond) and that always leads to an ever more unwieldy back history.

In Cubby's time they avoided this issue by having only a loose continuity between films. The freedom they have now is to ignore the Craig series and continue on with that loose continuity.

Unfortunately, this may require tough decisions re casting (ie don't fall into the Judy Dench trap as in Casino Royale, by having the same actors comeback to the series as M, Q, Tanner and Moneypenny.

And it also requires a level of creativity to make the series vibrant again that the current producers don't seem to have. Instead of going after a creative team, they should invite and seriously consider pitches for the new films from a variety of sources. I willing to bet there are still filmmakers and actors who are passionate about Bond and would love to be part of the series.

Personally, I hope they haven't totally burned their bridges with Danny Boyle. His 2012 Olympics segment was the most enjoyable the Craig era has ever been, and I'd love to see him do a proper Bond film.

Why add 1 dime to Broccoli's bank account Skywalker?------Deadline.com headline: ‘No Time To Die’--Bond’s 5-Day Domestic Cume Eyeing $67M+--------so what? A holiday weekend here for Columbus Day and in 5 days (really 6 counting in Thursday's night time opening) through today's estimates as well and this is the total box office? They are hoping for a 55% drop off next weekend but it could be much steeper than that.

Great post Omega. John Calley the studio head at UA made the Broccollis chose Pierce. Babz was so made she called Calley an a**hole. See article

https://www.backstage.com/magazine/arti ... nce-63737/

Whoever runs the series, should make a safe choice like Cavill. Btw- Brosnan was awesome IMHO. Barbara cut him off bx he wanted to much $$$ for 5th Bond but turned over everything to Craig including let him literally kill the character. Really enjoy everyones take.

Jason somewhere is our forum are links to stories with Michael G Wilson admitting firing pierce brosnan wasn’t about money, brosnan had said something about his salary for bond 21 wasn’t much more than it had been for bond 20.
He also said a few weeks before Craig was announced officially the head of Sony film Amy what’s her name asked him to come back, he said it wasn’t his call to make. Even Judy Dench was talking about brosnan being back in the early bond 21 days. That was probably just to put unhappy fans at ease.

Now I don’t know what’s been published since be at one time those were kind of unknown stories and self serving for those telling, fact may have evolved differently. The only one I absolutely believe is MGW admitting it wasn’t about money firing pierce, although technically it was just not renewing the option on his contract not actually firing him.

Ah it did almost $7 million Monday, it’s not a holiday everyone gets off. That means it did $4-5 million today.
Venom did $4 million Monday $145 million domestic and only $43 million world wide not sure what their release schedule is, the only thing NTTD can brag about is international bo or worldwide total , mostly from the uk and us ,

Having seen the Craig puff piece Being James Bond I think I can safely say it wasn't about Pierce's price tag, he was Cubby's Bond and Babz has a serious case of the "hots" for Dan, honestly it was quite sickening to listen to this grown woman gush over this guy like a teen beat heart throb.

This is where the comic book writers are going and it is ridiculous :!: The new Superman — the son of Clark Kent and journalist Lois Lane — has taken “a bold new direction” in his fictional life and will come out as bisexual in an upcoming comic issue due Nov. 9, DC Comics has announced. Few story line details have been revealed, but the plot will see Jon Kent strike up a friendship and later fall for pink-haired reporter Jay Nakamura, DC Comics said. The romance will bloom after Jon seeks support from the stresses of “trying to save everyone that he can”.---------once again these morons do not realize you should NEVER be supplanting these woke driven scenarios to satisfy a mob of losers whereby you WILL alienate the majority of those who do NOT want to read about Superman nor his son's love life :!: :cuss: Image

And inevitably, here's a bit of reconsideration of the value Pierce Brosnan brought to the series:
