Dunno. They must have had very high expectations.

I just checked Box Office Mojo. They say the studio projection was $140 million, while their own forecast predicted $165 million. This is the latest in a string of franchise movies to underperform, so I wonder whether people are suffering a touch of sequel fatigue.

Dunno. I think some of it has to be quality of the movie or meeting expectations. I’m not a toy story fan, so I was never in the target audience, but maybe the ads and trailers didn’t show audiences anything new?

Of course it could be simpler, busy summer, crowded slate of movies, maybe audiences already spent their budgeted movie going on endgame and Aladdin,
The ticket prices are astronomical as are popcorn and soda, maybe it’s the same old thing of not being compelling enough for 50 to 100 million people out of billions to go to the movies to see a specific movie/franchise.

Toy Story's actuals were slightly above the estimates at $120 million.

Ok the toy story 4 effect is a lot of children under 13 have made it the event movie of the early summer for kids. In our family and other places with extended friends and family the children we know of a certain age are talking about toy story and excited especially to talk to other kids about it. Now adults don’t seem to happy with it, but the kids are thrilled. Anecdotally it would seem to have better leg than I first thought, but if the adult reaction is the same as we saw in our friends I think it’ll petter out faster than a children’s movie adults like too.

Saw the new Spider-Man it was a good follow up to endgame . Good movie with some not really Spider-Man done right qualifications.

Sad part is it’s a pascal productions movie, making that hack Amy pascal money. She must have some real dirt on Sony for them to give her this golden parachute. She essentially collapsed the studio with her common sense of movie making, to get rid of her Sony makes her producer on several lucrative movie.
She’d like to say she made the Spider-Man franchise work but we all know it’s Kevin feige’s marvel plan

Not sure. Don't those movies tend to do better in Asia than they do domestically?

It looks inline with the openings of the earlier fast and furious movies, but not the last 3 or 4 movies at least in the USA. The world market is the reason for these movies , not sure how they break down

No matter what happens they wanted Star Wars and the marvel titles so they got what they paid for really. As a studio fox has been struggling for a long time, the X-men movies were fan friendly but didn’t make money. Avatar has been a decade in the making .
