Fantastic beast 2 is $40-50 million behind FB 1 in the USA at this point in its run.
About $150 million of the foreign box office total, not sure if it running out of steam there like it has here
Creed 2 looks like it might pass the us total not sure about foreign total yet

Re: Box office thread
Found a theater with once upon a Deadpool, it’s a pg13 version of Deadpool 2. No blood and edited/censored like TV movies used to do when blockbusters were aired in prime time.
Some were saying this pg13 version was a nod to Disney from fox marvel to show they can play ball. I’ve heard other ideas all boiling down to fox marvel trying to prove something.
Only thing they proved is pg13 Deadpool does not work. It’s a novelty when it’s a one off and they kidnap Fred savage to reenact princes bride, it’s funny and kind of funny they clean up the blood and language but Deadpool works because it flys in the face of conventional marvel and DC super heroes, it they try to make it fit Disney’s marvel universe it’ll kill it.
Only other thing of note is mortal engines is going to be doa, not because it’s good or bad it’s just got maybe one or two screens in every theater, maybe 4 to six show times a day. It’s not going to take #1 or be competitive. Spider verse is everywhere in big numbers.
Once upon a Deadpool is a charity screening on limited screen and part of each ticket going to cancer research it has more showing in the theater we found to watch it in than mortal engines.
I’ll post the real numbers and we’ll see if what I notice here has any merit in the rest of the world.

Re: Box office thread
Disney's Mary Poppins Returns brought in an estimated $6.7 million on Friday, it's third day in release with expectations the film will deliver $30+ million over its first five days in release. It looks like the sequel in 2018 will have more POP-OUTS than POPP-INS -------------Fantastic Beasts, the sequel, will pass the $600 million worldwide mark this weekend BUT that is $200 million behind the origin film, which is not good. They need more Potteresque storylines for the 3rd film, if it is even done now.
Re: Box office thread
Aquaman seems to be doing much better than I expected.

Re: Box office thread
I think it was forecast for $80 million high side , $60 million low. I think some fan boys wanted $100 million plus records
IMHO it’ll hit $700-800 million rang easily beating justice league. I’ve heard it’s good but I’m still not sure who actually gives a d**n about aquaman

Re: Box office thread
That's why the strong opening surprised me. I wasn't expecting it to do better than Mary Poppins Returns, let alone by such a wide margin. If nothing else, I thought that superhero fatigue would be starting to set in by now.Omega wrote:I think it was forecast for $80 million high side , $60 million low. Really? I thought marry poppins was big competition but not a giant, mostly because I don’t know anyone waiting on a sequel. Or even knew there were more books in that series

Edit: plus DC haven't even been able to make a success of films starring their biggest hitters, Batman and Superman, let alone a second-tier character like Aquaman. Wonder Woman was the exception, but that had the USP of being the first female-led superhero movie.

Re: Box office thread
Bumblebee was good, Spider-Man was great. Haven’t see mortal engines or aqua yet.
That kind of weak sauce for aquaman, still think it’ll be close to $700 million possibly squeak past $800.l by the times it’s done probably another bo loser for WB.
Disney had a few misfires with their family friendly brands nobody seems to talk about. Christoper robins and MP2. To be fair poppins 2 might not have the buildup other Disney brand movies get. Dumbo and lion king are getting a lot of buzz like I said nobody we knew was hyped for another poppins. Generational maybe.
