I saw the foreigner listed as a comparable film, it actually did well financially. Death wish is might buy the digital code for I really don’t want to sit in a theater for two hours to watch a b grade action movie. Red sparrow does not look compelling far as story goes. It’s just Jlaw doing her usual role.

Jumanji is $930 million worldwide and is $10 million from unseating the Spider-Man franchise from its #1 spot for Sony. Of course this is unadjusted I’m sure the original Spider-Man trilogy would crush if it were adjusted.

Greatest showman hangs in the top ten and made $376 million worldwide,

Black panther keeps its seat as king. Bruce Willis and JLaw draw in a audience but not enough to make hits, death wish will probably make money costing only $30 million if it can make $90 it broke even. Red Sparrow cost $69 million, needs $207 million to start to make money. Although worldwide its @ $43 million total. I just don’t see red sparrow making money, but I didn’t think Jumanji would be $400 million from Last Jedi’s total BO.

Black Panther less than $1 million away from beating Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone in the all-time inflation-adjusted chart (US and Canada only).

The studio's own estimate for A Wrinkle In Time was $35 million, but Box Office Mojo predicted it would do better than that based on the opening weekends of other Disney-branded movies (as distinct from Disney subsidiaries such as Marvel and Lucasfilm) that opened in the same timeframe. Plus, this will be week #4 for Black Panther, and AWIT is based on a much-loved children's book. One which, I must confess, bored me as a kid, but lots of other kids seemed to love it.

bigger question is how could Oprah fail?
Disney over sold this movie pandering to Oprah’s fame and to her demographic. 70% of the audience was women, the majority were white by a big margin. Black panther had evenly split demographics.
Speaking of BP The Chinese gave $66 million to Black Panther but the comments being released are very strange racist comments. Although reading some of the translated comments it’s hard to tell if it is the race of the actors or that the theater was screwing with the picture making it literally too dark to see what is happening very well. I kind of suspect government sanctioned intervention allowing theaters to mess with picture quality as a way to influence the box office. Or maybe it’s just a screw up in the digital copy distributed.

I think BP preforming so well there despite being unknown character and staring black actors, proves the excuses for Last Jedi failing there are lies.

They based their projection on advance ticket sales, IMDb page views, and comparisons to other recent Disney movies.

if it’s on other Disney movies this really screw up projections. Advance ticket sales are one thing, social media and IMDb are another. Black panther did not show the support it got in social media tracking

They always use similar movies as comparison points; there's no point comparing it to the latest Fast & Furious film, for example.

Box Office Mojo is predicting Black Panther to take the top slot for a [s]sixth[/s] fifth week running, the first film since Avatar to do so, though it faces stiff competition from the rebooted Tomb Raider. Oh, and they also report extensively on a faith-based movie, I Can Only Imagine, showing that they will report on such movies when their performance warrants it.
