Wow, I really do not understand how Donald Pleasance is getting the better vote. He was neither threatening nor convincing as a dangerous man compared to Savalas' more physical Blofeld. Although I'll give Pleaseance one compliment, he's better than Gray.

Well for a guy who controls a worldwide organization (which controls a bunch of other smaller organizations) the guy wouldn't really need to lift a finger. The cold calculating Himmler take was deliciously sinister. This onscreen Blofeld ties in best with the calm voiced Blofeld of FRWL and TB. 8)

So he should basically a weak character who can't do anything besides stroking his cat? Quite a compelling nemesis for Bond. What I like about the Savalas Blofeld is that after everyone failed him he finally steps up and turns out to be a good match for Bond physically. It would have been nice to have DAF continue Bond's vengeance with a well performed brawl out. If I were a guy who controls a worldwide organization I would keep up in shape for efficiancy sake because you never know when you might have an assassin sneak past the guards. When all else fails, use your fists. That's a lesson Stromberg had to learn the hard way.

Would you call the FRWL Blofeld weak? Because that's what he was doing too.

You misunderstood. I was talking about the Pleasance Blofeld, not the predecessor. The predecessor at least sounded more menacing and when you don't show his face that's a pretty good build up for a revalation, which Pleasance failed to do by bringing nothing new to the character besides a weaker voice and a scar. It was a good opportunity to bring Bond's nemesis to the big screen and they failed to present him as menacing. Even Christopher Walken was more of a villain. In OHMSS it seems exactly like a do-over. There was a connection to all the previous Bond films except YOLT, with the introduction of a more menacing Blofeld being the most obvious. He still had that cat yet became more involved in the film.

I take back the remark about Gray, I actually find him more fun to watch now than Pleasence.

So a question for you folks, why is Pleasence a good Blofeld?

I think my feelings are coloured by the fact that he was the first actor to be seen as Blofeld, not counting those who were only seen as hands stroking a white cat. He therefore defined it in the same way that Connery defined Bond.

I can't say the same. He was my first Blofeld but there was never any impact for me. Perhaps Austin Powers spoiled it. Even without Powers I don't think I would have liked him anyway. Connery was menacing while Blofeld sounded like a shouting crow.

This was supposed to be the original Blofeld but Albert Broccoli didn't think he was very intimidating.

Amazing, and Pleaseance didn't seem to make a difference either.

James1090's Blofeld would have now been an iconic figure if he had been cast. But I would not cat him now!

I gave Telly Savalas a bump because he was skunked in the elimination game.

I agree that perhaps Blofeld should of always remained faceless, but I'm sure this would of been hard to sustain over a period of movies, so I'll go with Telly Savalas. although I did enjoy D Pleasance ( his portrail is now an Icon),Charles Grey could of been better except with DAF they went for a much lighter script.
