Bond on the BBC!

Post by carl stromberg »

From Russia With Love is on BBC2 this evening (July 29th) as part of their thrillers season!

This is the first time I can remember Bond being on the BBC.

I think NSNA has been shown before.

Did anyone watch it and were there any obvious cuts?

I watched it. No cuts that I was aware of. It made a change to watch a James Bond film on television in widescreen with no advert breaks.

Did they speed up the end credits, or fade them out before they finished, or put an annoying `coming up' voice-over on?

ITV always did that with Bond films....

BBC America is showing Connery's first four Bond films in sequence on Sundays at 8pm, starting this Sunday, 28th December (my dad's birthday).

NSNA was the only Bond film on the 'beeb' when I lived there.
But that was along time ago.
When I lived in the uk there was a choice of BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5 was just getting going, though was shite.
Is it still shite now?
What stations show the Bond films on holiday weekends, easter, christmas...Bondathon a couple of times a year?

Britain is going to switch from analogue to digital TV in a few years. You can buy a digital box for about £20 and receive about 50 channels through an old analogue aerial; I presume the same thing is happening in Australia?

The standard of TV was higher when there was were only four channels. Now there is more competition and more channels, and the broadcasters have less money and show more repeats and rubbish.

Bond is still on ITV (see the thread in this section. They still show them in 4:3 and cut them to bits. ITV do show then in widescreen (or a form of widescreen) on ITV2, a digital channel.
Bring back Bond!

Digital takes over this year. Analogue is being phased out.
