Box office thread
Re: Box office thread
Well, the unadjusted figures still have their uses. Because DAD's figures are fairly close to NTTD's, we can use them to predict NTTD's tracking, and based on DAD's figures, surmise that it will end up with around a $160 million US/Canadian gross. Or around half of Skyfall's figure.
Edited to add: I just found DAD's adjusted North American figure on The Numbers, and it's $253,327,595, ahead of all the Craigs except Skyfall.

Weekend 3 total in USA was only $11,886,514, down 50% from last weekend, in 3,807 theatres now.
Re: Box office thread
It'll be interesting to see how it does in China when it opens there on Friday.

Box office thread
Latest Weekend: Oct 22-24
Dune $40.1M
Halloween Kills $14.5M
No Time to Die $11.9M
Venom: Let There Be Carnage $9.1M
Ron's Gone Wrong $7.3M
Dune hitting $40 million is amazing to me.
Word of mouth with fans is bad but it is a spectacle. A spectacle with a long run time. I though $30 million was pushing it

Re: Box office thread
NTTD bo compared to Dune and Halloween is bad, I really thought the Bond franchise was stronger than this. I think Dune and Halloween and Venom are really performing well in a covid movie theater world.

Re: Box office thread
They can use it as a predictive measure except ticket prices are different. So while they can say here is CR or DAD it’s off because the number of people going are not going to be the same. While the final total might correct it’s really based more on what the bo each weekend might do over how many tickets will be sold.Kristatos wrote:It's day 17 of NTTD's North American release and it's so far grossed $120,041,599 (estimated). For comparison, here are the day 17 cumes for the last few Bond films. These are all unadjusted figures, which makes NTTD look somewhat better. Even so:
SPECTRE - $154,146,608
Skyfall - $214,291,699
Quantum of Solace - $141,418,534
Casino Royale - $115,876,024
Die Another Day - $120,207,399
In other words, NTTD's tracking is comparable to that of Bond films made 15-20 years ago. Again, unadjusted for inflation. (Source: The Numbers).

Re: Box office thread
Less than a 50% drop for NTTD in the UK this weekend, despite the release of Dune. Once again, my country is embarrassing me in the eyes of the world. The total UK gross is now almost the same as the US total ($109 million vs $120 million), despite us only having about a fifth of the population.

Kind of the national duty to go buy a ticket for the American produced series about a British spy.
But Connery and Moore were national institutions so maybe that’s part of it

Re: Box office thread
Dune staying on top is sort of surprising. It disappears from the dailies most of last week.
My hero academia being on the top five is big for the genera.
No real difference in 5th through 2nd, venom is going good hanging on, the others are so close in ordinary times it’d be moot
Latest Weekend: Oct 29-31
Dune $15.5M
Halloween Kills $8.5M
No Time to Die $7.8M
My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission $6.4M
Venom: Let There Be Carnage $5.8M

Re: Box office thread
In third place was MGM’s 007 sequel, No Time to Die, which tacked on $7.8 million in its fourth weekend. The latest 007 adventure (starring Daniel Craig in his last turn in the tux), slipped -35.9% from the previous session, scoring a $2,229 per-screen average in 3,507 venues. The PG-13-rated film has now earned $133.3 million at the domestic box office and $472.4 million from abroad. Its combined worldwide box office is now a hair under $605.8 million, places the movie in the elite company of F9: The Fast Saga as the only two Hollywood films to surpass the $600 million global milestone this year. The bigger headline for Bond, though, came from the film’s lackluster debut in China—recently one of 007’s most lucrative markets. Due to a spike in COVID cases, 13% of the country’s theaters were closed, giving the film a softer-than-expected bow with $27.8 million.

Re: Box office thread
Final Chinese weekend total for NTTD is $28 million, well behind SPECTRE's $44 million. What's more, SPECTRE's opening weekend accounted for over 50% of its total Chinese gross. If NTTD is as front-loaded, it should end up with around $55 million. It has just passed $600 million worldwide, but needs something like $945 million in order to break even. The chances of it reaching that now are looking slim to non-existent.

Yeah, they mean total, but it still seems overly optimistic. I think SPECTRE made about $25 million in total, plus I don't know what the lockdown situation is over there.

Found this cleaning up a old laptop before donating it.
It’s from 2012 before skyfall, all of the prices are 2012 average, what could be curious is the Craig era keeps counting the re-releases in new totals, unless bo mojo does the day and weekend comparison it doesn’t become obvious.

Re: Box office thread
NTTD is available to stream in the US from Tuesday, which should effectively end its theatrical run there. Not sure about the rest of the world, including here. Presumably not Australia, as it doesn't open there in cinemas until Friday. I don't know what day of the week BOM publishes the charts from there, to find out how well it's done.

I saw presale at Best Buy for the 4K Blu-ray. It is a fast turn around now. I do think the old world were movies could linger in theaters is gone with a few blockbusters as exceptions.
I also believe day of releases will become more prevalent. I think in the end the excitement new releases generate will be greater sales combined of ticket and streaming home video.
