We wanted to see wakanda with the family this weekend but it never worked out for timing. I’m also kind of afraid how the passing of the star will be treated. I have t read any spoilers or wanted many of the trailers

I'm sure Omega will be along soon to post detailed stats, but according to the estimates, the Avatar sequel has grossed nearly half a billion dollars worldwide in its opening weekend. It'll be interesting to see if it has the legs of the first film, which only dropped around 10% in its second and third weekends.

The TV premiere has caused NTTD to drop 22 places to number 40 in the UK DVD chart. Which I suppose is good, but why the hell is anybody still buying it at all?

We didn’t go to avatar 2, one because of the run time, two because the nieces and nephews wanted to see Wakanda and/or Puss in boots more.
I did point out avatar two is only slightly longer than Wakanda 2 movie, but that didn’t hold water for the next generation

Ironically, holding water is more likely to be an issue for my generation!

Looks like Avatar 2 has crossed the $2 billion threshold worldwide that James Cameron said it would need just to break even.

NTTD has finally dropped out of the UK home media (DVD/Blu-Ray/streaming) movie chart. Not a big landmark, and it could alway re-enter (there are movies from the '80s in the top 40), but it feels like we can officially now refer to Craig as "the former guy".

Latest Weekend: Jan 27-29
Avatar: The Way of Water $15.7M
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish $10.6M
A Man Called Otto $6.8M
M3GAN $6.4M
Pathaan $5.9M

Really nothing in the movies I’m interested in. I forget about the weekend totals because they really don’t matter at the moment.

One thing I’ll point out is there are a number of movies ,this week be over the last year, which are one the top 5 -top 10, which are on home video, yet not hurting the theater take. I think in the not too distant future Hollywood will change it distribution method.

Funny how in the uk bond movies in general would linger on the sales lists. The numbers sold are smaller vs the US but the fan base and sales kept going months after other markets moved on

That's probably because our population is about a fifth of that of the US.

Poorly worded. It wasn’t about number over all it’s the fans keep the sales going at a noticeable level longer than in the us , fist two weeks the bulk of Blu-ray sales are done . Uk it’ll linger, over all smaller number , but percentage of the population that give a crap is higher

I finally got to see Avatar, btw. I wouldn't say it was essential viewing, but it was enjoyable and fast-paced enough that the run time wasn't really an issue. It did feel a bit like a James Cameron greatest hits package in places, though, specifically the first film crossed with Titanic. And of course the first fim reused elements from Aliens, so it was like a photocopy of a photocopy.

John wick 4

Latest Weekend: Mar 24-26
John Wick: Chapter 4 $73.5M
Creed III $10.4M
Shazam! Fury of the Gods $9.7M
Scream VI $8.4M
65 $3.3M
More »

Didn’t care about Shazam or creed 3, John wick , yep got us interested again. Haven’t seen it but it’s on the list.

John wick made $86 million world wide
John wick 2 $174 million
John wick 3 $328 million
This is the biggest open weekend for John wick and for the industry in general it’s a solid number

No budget numbers on Bo mojo , fist cost $20 million, second I think was $30, third was $75.
Good solid business sense.

Thing is Shazam and antman are low tear superhero movies , never going to be that big. And dc and marvel have pulled their punches so far, only well made superhero movies since 2020 Covid is wakanda and Spider-Man , dr strange was so far out of sync with the WandaVision stories it was horrible. Completely ignored everything the character became in the WandaVision series to make it a throwaway villain. Thor love and thunder was so bad, it had a build up of a team up movie then petered out to a woke adventure, for the Disney owners to feel they virtue signal enough. Thor also ignored the developments in the TV series Loki, which fans are looking forward to continuing.
Black Adam is another lower tier, superhero, and again the only good thing and it was Pierce Brosnan. I think both dc and Marvel know the formula, but they didn’t want to throw their money away on what would be a lukewarm return.

I think the studios are afraid of really spending the money for the superhero movies because I’m not sure the returns because theaters have never come back from where they were before
