Just read that The Eternals' opening weekend is an all-time low for Marvel. Still way ahead of NTTD, though.

For marvel some are acting like they finally screwed up and this is their bat v Superman or Zack Snyder screw up.
Maybe
But I think it’s intentional to a degree they are handling lesser known properties at the moment I believe in a build up. Could be wrong. This could be miscalculation on Kevin Feige’s part (finally) , only reason I believe there may be a reason is I think they are deliberately slow rolling properties they don’t expect much from as sacrifices to the pandemic bo. Could be completely wrong
If it’s intentional marvel finally let the wrong directors and stories taint their brand, like dc did.

In other bo news I’ve heard people making excuses for dunes unexpected slow down,it’s HBO Max’s fault , I get why this is a favorite go to for people inside the industry or just feel connected to movies and the experience at theaters.
However it takes out the fact dune is a bad movie and many fans hate it. It doesn’t makes sense to people looking at rt or audience scores, but dune is a long movie that feels longer. Didn’t get key parts right so many fans of the books and previous movies don’t like it.

If not time to die is still in theaters in the us despite the digital release I think it’ll still place on the top 5 for the weekend

Ok not a bad second week for externals, no time holding on despite being on direct video seem to stress the current theories about the marketplace and what hurts theater ticket sales

Eternals $27.5M
Clifford the Big Red Dog $16.4M
Dune $5.5M
No Time to Die $4.6M
Venom: Let There Be Carnage $4.0M

And the Australian opening weekend gross is (drum roll) $8,247,000. I take it back, suddenly that billion-dollar total looks achievable after all _.///

$4 million from Australia this weekend, bringing the total to $15 million. Only a 41.8% second weekend drop off, but I still don't see any path to the projected $35 million take. It'll be lucky to make SPECTRE's $25 million.

Uk and Germany are two of the bigger markets for Craig’s bond, very close to none pandemic numbers. Where Australia has the high water mark of $49 million and under $30 million will be lucky

I do think when the dust settles and the real results are looked at despite more than likely over taking fast 9, bond lost a lot of ground in 9 years in markets it used to do well in. Uk and Germany are nice but Asia, Europe, Latin America used to be stronger

Probably because it was a film that didn't need remaking in the first place.

Fair point. After all the positive buzz I assumed it had more going for it than it did.

Other thing may be generational, I don’t thing it resonates with younger audiences. I’m judging by what we feel like and our friends, it’s not even on the rental list. We know what west side story is and weren’t waiting for it to be updated and more woke.

Rachel Zegler appears to be popular with younger people who I know casually. But obviously not popular enough.

Popular is one thing, like on twitter or YouTube. Actors haven’t generated business because of who they are trumping the final product in decades. Brands have that potential and it may be Hollywood deliberately moved away from making actors brands. Or it maybe modern audiences don’t feel the need to support/see actors they like in shows/movies they know they don’t care about.

Instant gratification of on demand could play a role too.

Anecdotally, I've seen a lot of people on social media saying that it's their first visit to the cinema since lockdown began. But of course the plural of anecdote isn't data.

It was for my whole family. And the movie was a good time we all enjoyed. When we went I thought it could be big because the rest of my family never do the day of or early screening.
$200 million in a pandemic?

As long as it grosses more than NTTD's $160 million domestic total for its entire run, I'll be happy. If its opening weekend beats NTTD's worldwide total, I'll be even happier, though I don't think that will be possible, as it's not releasing everywhere at the same time.

I think it opens bigger in the us than NTTD total us. They were saying even stalled sat sub is just under $175 million

If it pulls this off this is not just under vivid conditions , the biggest Canadian cities are under new guidelines so they are box office is way under well it should be in the US box office is still half filled theaters.
