I guess some films are critic-proof. "slight ease in domestic projections" aside. It looks like mediocre reviews have hurt it, but only a little. I'm surprised there haven't been calls from Trump supporters to boycott it, given that JK Rowling is a fairly outspoken critic of his. And there have been protests from the left, too, both about the casting of wife-beater Johnny Depp and the alleged "straightwashing" of Dumbledore, whose relationship with Grindlewald is hinted at, but not explicitly stated. It's almost as if Mr and Mrs Joe Q Multiplex don't really care about the hyper-partisan fever swamps of the internet.

The showtimes for beasts 2 are not plentiful. And do not start early. First showing we went to had a very small crowd.
Over all it was not the SJW fest some said it was and it was not the WOK answer to Hollywood.
Biggest problem with this movie is editing especially at the end. Characters just appear to lead to the next scene without really explaining why they are there. Honestly there needs to be a directors cut because many of these screens exist we’ve seen them in the previews.

Over all I like it but not as much as the first. Very much a place hold movie that doesn’t really please most of the hardcore audience.

Fantastic Beasts has apparently made $253 million worldwide, but only received a B+ from Cinemascore. Whilst it has already made back its $200 million budget, I have to wonder whether it will have the legs for the coveted 3× multiplier.

The original cleared $800 million on a $180 million budget. I remember that movie was not well received at first. But then China gave the first beast movie $85 million, the biggest foreign market followed by japan and the uk.

B+ is a low score if what I heard about these scores is true then a lot of audience dissatisfaction. Of course thanksgiving may boost it in the us

Actuals were not too far off estimates.
I do think fb2 will have a harder time matching the first movie, but as a investment in a series I think it’ll do well in the long run.

If there’s a lot of trouble for FB2 I bet the go to excuses Star Wars and WB used for the DCU will come up. Essentially blaming the audience for being intolerant of whatever. IMO Hollywood like to blame the audience for being intolerant of garbage they produce. Although to be fair the audience has bought a lot of tickets to skyfall and transformers movies totally devoid of any value.

One thing a friend said to me that brought mendes in to focus for me was that he was copying Nolan’s style, which in retrospect makes perfect sense looking at his movies.

I'm not surprised. It's not that long since the Russell Crowe one, and that didn't do too well either, IIRC.

I don’t know why they tried to remake Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood at least that’s how it looked from the trailers

With an additional $83.7 million internationally this weekend, FB2 was once again the #1 film globally for the second weekend in a row with a worldwide cume that now totals $439.7 million. The budget was $200 million? For what? There are no big named draws here and Depp could not have been paid a lot. Is CGI this expensive and if so, why?

$200 million is a pretty typical budget for a blockbuster movie these days.

Using the 3X rule they are close to the $600 million they need to break even. Except I keep thinking about the HP movie that broke $1 billion that didn’t make money according to WB accountants.

I think they have to be disappointed FB2 is dropping so fast. On the other hand they also rushed out a movie many feel was unfinished. Or at least not ready missing parts of the story.

That's just Hollywood accounting, though, designed to screw the people whose contracts give them a share of the profits (and the taxman). It was the same with Batman (1989). That had already made back 8 times its budget from merchandise alone before it was even released, but WB's balance sheet still showed it as a loss-maker.

True. But they also mislead about costs to make movie look like better investments than they are. Say it cost $200 when they spent $285 counting tax credits they haven’t got yet. Either way biggest scam if how they use BO numbers to push sales with false advertising.
How is it Hollywood is free to make Exaggerated claims that would land a car company or a pharmaceutical company in jail?

BOM: In fourth we find WB's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which kicked off its third week in release with an estimated $11.2 million and a domestic cume that is now just shy of $135 million. While the film's domestic performance is a bit of a downer, it has now topped the global box office for three straight weekends as it added another $40.2 million internationally this weekend for an overseas running cume that is now $385.3 million for a global haul just shy of $520 million. Overall, the performance is going to be a far cry from the first film which delivered nearly $235 million domestically and $814 million worldwide, which will make WB's future moves concerning the franchise something to keep an eye on.

FB2 is not going to top the original and IMO it doesn’t deserve to because it’s very poor story telling, not a complete disappointment but huge chunks are obviously missing. If they had made a coherent story tiring together all of the love stories and plot lines I have no doubt it’d best FB1 even with a LOTR run time
