Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War has blasted past the $700M global mark with $725.5M through Monday. We can expect milestones to continue to fall throughout this week: $800M should hit with today’s numbers added, and $1B worldwide is coming this weekend — possibly through Friday which would be 10 days in release. Anything under 12 days to $1B would see Infinity War become the fastest movie to the benchmark, taking a light saber to Star Wars: The Force Awakens which currently holds the record.

There is a review in the guardian where the reviewer gushes about TLJ, but admits some small faults in TLJ make avengers more successful with fan enthusiasm and stronger bo.
The thing is, I can't think of an example where I've enjoyed film A, then seen film B and decided that film A sucks after all. Whereas I can think of several examples of enjoying a film on first viewing, then watching it again and thinking "this isn't as good as I remember it".

no I don’t think avengers is going to make last Jedi fans repent, I think it’s comparable because the objectives and scale of the stories are the same.

Overboard ? Is that a remake of the Kurt Russell movie? If so why?

I read it’s a twist with a wealthy Mexican son of a billionaire falling off his boat and losing his memory being found by the woman he just fired a few days earlier. Same basic premise but I doubt it has any real meaning other than a desperate attempt by mgm to find a hit by recycling properties they own

Some interesting talk about the new solo movie , Disney appears to be trying to push the movie hard without revealing too much about it or the new actor hired to play solo, Glover who looks like lando is out there front and center which is a good choice. Disney also wants to undercut Deadpool 2 by starting pr campaigns at the same time as Deadpool

Politics of the success or failure of this movie is complicated if it fails it’ll get the two bosses of Kathleen Kennedy to force her to change direction or fire her which is what a lot of fans would like after TLJ. I believe Disney know TLJ is a f’up with hundreds of millions of fans worldwide not buy as many tickets as the always do, one sign is how many time the projections were revised down for the movie Hollywood is very good at predicting these movie that why their forecasts for weekends are normally very close to actual numbers, when a movie like justice league or TLJ do not live up to predictions the studios know they’ve got a problem. But they never admit it and if they makes changes it’s always for creative reasons nothing to do with bo or fan reaction

The Disney pr campaign for solo is basically resistance is futile, it’s going to be a hit no matter what unhappy fans do so they might as well buy a ticket and watch it too, hum sounds very very familiar,
Memorial Day weekend is a poor weekend for release but may work out for Disney because they can claim victory with a relatively small opening ( for SW) and only have to best Pirates 3 $139 million from from 11 years ago

Here’s the damned if you do and damned don’t part a failure would help cement trouble for Kathleen Kennedy it also might kill future retro movies featuring new actors as young versions of iconic characters. But if this fails it also the first recent Star Wars movie to feature a male lead and not be about Kathleen Kennedy trying to push her 1970s girl power agenda. The message she would take away is the audience doesn’t like classic Star Wars.

If it’s a smash hit besting force awakens she also think she needs to double down because her strategy Star Wars is paying off big time.

But imho I think Disney know TLJ was a mistake and ms. Kennedy had trouble managing the franchise just from here director troubles which she has a bad reputation for inside the studio with the marvel side of the studio saying they’d never move over to the sw side because of her, which the marvel side is not know for the free reign for the directors either.

So that’s the talk about the SW movie universe.

Deadpool 2 is better than the first and the matinee showings were crowded. I wouldn’t be surprised if it beats the projections

It went from $133 early in the week to $138 Friday to $125 estimates. My only reason for believing it will beat estimated is how crowded it was yesterday and the people lined up for the next showing

The Triple Crown horse races have more intrigue with Justify winning the Preakness than Dead-FOOL does as a movie IMO. It underperformed a lot it appears and it's legs might not be too strong for this pile of trash. Are there any new strap-on scenes in the Reynolds debacle?
