Guess opening low helped aquaman. 23-4% drop sounds impressive but isn’t really making big bo.

They say it was around $160 million production WB hadn’t released official numbers @$748 million its in pretty safe territory.

Can't copy and paste tables on my phone, but here's a link to the year-end chart: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/ch ... 018&p=.htm

You probably won't be surprised to learn that Marvel movies occupy 3 of the top 5 slots.

Interesting story has got to be while marvel took the top but other Disney standard titles under preformed. Wrinkle in time, Christopher robins, marry poppins returns, nutcracker and the four kingdoms, solo
Incredibles 2 and wreck it Ralph 2 are the few non marvel success stories .

Personally I think Disney cowed a lot of their computing this year, Deadpool 2 was being boxed in by solo and the worry of offending their new owners, Jurassic world pulled a lot of punches almost as if universal was embarrassed to be promoting another JP title.

Not a sure thing but Imo like last year and Star Wars studios though a upset was impossible so only completed in a way they thought they would risk less.

Aquaman has done enough worldwide to be considered a hit, by dceu standards a super successful hit. Pointing the series away from justice league more towards wonder woman

Saw aquaman, good movie. I can tell the reworked the story after JL failed.

A big crowd at the imax showing, in fact a lot of women in the theaters for this showing. Families and couples of course but at least near us there were several groups of women who normally don’t go to comic book movies, I’m guessing they liked the story and the star has sex appeal .

Seeing the crowd today the third week I knew this movie was going to be bigger than I thought.
$259 million U.S.A.
$941 million worldwide

Yes, it's on course to becoming the first billion dollar DCEU movie, even beating Wonder Woman. I wasn't expecting that.

It is the one bright shining star of the DCEU, and they changed the tone completely from where the series was with Zack Snyder. Even wonder woman suffers from Snyder’s control of the series when it was made, although Patty Jenkins was the first to throw off most of the dark and gritty shackles.
Aquaman director James wan must of watched Thor Ragnarok & guardians of the galaxy on a loop to get an idea of how to bring humor to the franchise.
IMHO this is what made Aquaman work for the masses. Although at the end where in the voice over where he declares “I am aquaman!” It’s kind of jarring because he works as King Arthur, king of the sea, son of cgi Nicole Kidman. But I’m not a aquaman fan so maybe it was a payoff for the comic book fans.

Apparently it’s a left over Weinstein film, I don’t think anybody has promoted it.
