Doctor Who series 6

Post by CaptainLewis »

New 'Doctor Who' series split in two

The next series of Doctor Who will air in two parts, it has been announced.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival this morning, showrunner Steven Moffat confirmed that the sixth run will start in Spring 2011 and return in the Autumn.

A statement from the BBC explained: "The split transmission is the result of a request from Steven Moffat to write a new Doctor Who story arc which involves a big plot twist in the middle of the series. By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliffhangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens."

Moffat added: "The split series is hugely exciting because viewers will be treated to two premieres, two finales and more event episodes. For the kids it will never be more than a few months to the next Doctor Who! Easter, Autumn, Christmas!!"

Some disappointment about this. Althou RTD always had a problem with the schedule each year making a Doctor lite episode.

Can't wait anymore to ask, how did those who saw the Doctor's Wife like it?

I loved it. It didn't suffer from "guest writer syndrome" at all, where the big name guest writer doesn't quite get the characters or conventions of the show (see: Curtis, R), since Gaiman is a long-time fan.

I turned to the person next to me as the credits rolled and said 'They finally add something to Dr Who'. Meaning the 11th Doctor team.

The TARDIS stealing the Doctor was often talked about in the Books and fan forums which honestly were not more cannon than the Books series, often the same people involved in both.

First time since the 'Doctor's Daughter and 'Silence in the Library Part 1&2' that the show really grabbed me and showed me something new. However they are really recycling some old story motifs.

If they can keep this quality up I may become a fan of Matt.

I admit it I was suckered into watching the first episode of a two part story.

A bit of a comedown after The Doctor's Wife, I thought, but then almost anything would be. TDW was pretty out there, so I can see why the producers would choose to follow it up with a more traditional "base under siege" story.

When you are right you are right. I was not impressed by the first part have to hope the second part will bring the goods.

It wasn't remarkable show before the end. It was nice to hear Tom Bakers voice in prime time Who again!

What is happening to Pond is pretty much what I was expecting since the 2nd show. There are taking a lot of hints from the classic series and it appears the unfulfilled potential of the 7th Doctor as well.

I do think they finally figured out how to deal with time travel in an interesting way.

Not happy with the mid-series break.

I’m glad we’ve got Torchwood, I like to think of it as Dr Who substitute.

Though some Dr Who news is just about to pop up: http://doctorwhotv.co.uk/series-6-part- ... -23164.htm

What a wonderfully bonkers episode. The Terminator meets The Numbskulls, plus Alex Kingston in 1938 Berlin uttering the immortal line "So I was on my way to a gay gypsy bar-mitzvah for the disabled when I thought, the Third Reich's a bit rubbish" to a bunch of Nazi soldiers.

Do you mean The Numbskulls who controlled that man in the Beezer?

I have not watched this episode yet but am looking forward to it as you can't beat a time travel story set in Nazi Germany.
Bring back Bond!

Yep. And I'm not the only person to make that comparison.

Last show was a bit of rubbish. Better than Monsters and Aliens I suppose other than this it was a wast of time.

The show is so bi-polar this series I am not sure they can pull off a meaningful conclusion to all of the threads.

It was a decent ending but too convoluted for its own good. Reminded me of the Fires Of Vulcan (audio Drama) where the 7th Doctor is convinced he is going to die in eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
