The End of Time

Post by Kristatos »

DINNERTIME!!!!!!!!

Well, I should probably wait until part 2 before giving my overall verdict, but here are some initial thoughts:

RTD has assembled a great cast here, with actors like Claire Bloom, June Whitfield, Brian Cox and of course Timothy Dalton in virtual cameo roles. I'm expecting them to play a much bigger role in the second part. At least I hope so. John Simm is scarier than his last appearance on Who, playing an insane version of The Master. And how great to see Bernard Cribbins' name in the opening credits at last.

I can't believe the effort that went into setting up that

I am abstaining from all things Who until I can watch the second part. Recorded the first part and I am trying to find something, anything else to do aside from Who. Even the Doctor Who Confidential is tempting me !

Barry Howard, the camp ballroom dancer from 80's British sitcom Hi De Hi, also made an appearance!

I just got done watching part 2. My expectations were sky high, but I'm afraid I can only rate the episode as average. Shame.

:(
I could have done without that :(

I am glad RTD is GONE

Sylvester McCoy got a better send off!

I was right about Rassilon thou :( Small consolation that

I was hoping for a 3rd Doctor dying in the TARDIS possibly for years with past visitations like his mother.

RTD recycled the same old script he has used at least 3 times over.

Timothy Dalton was done well by in the Confidential

Matt Smith did better than I expected.

The episode was a mess but it was fun to see Matt Smith briefly.

I enjoyed it, but the goodbye did drag on a bit.

Yep, the one problem RTD couldn't get around is that pretty much every single person watching, along with anyone who hasn't been living under a rock for the last year, knew full well that the Doctor wasn't really going to die, he was just going to turn into Matt Smith. Yes, some of us are sad to see David Tennant go, but the goodbye didn't really relate those feelings to the feelings experienced by characters who thought that the Doctor was going for good, so the scenes didn't carry any emotional resonance.
