Katie's Spyfall review

Post by katied »

What worked:

Ben Wishlaw's Q(yes yes, he IS a bit young but even I warmed up to him eventually)

The locations(especially Macau)

Eve( she was the definition of "Bad@ss" during the pre titles sequence 8) )

Speaking of which...lhe titles were really cool-liked those a lot lot lot.

MI6's
Spoiler
temporary digs. Amazed that they can get wifi underground!

What didn't work:

Silva/Severine. Javier Bardem seemed like he was overacting at several points in the movie.

The
Spoiler
fall
during the pre-titles sequence. OMGWTF. That should have been fatal.

Not happy about
Spoiler
M dying
but it means more Ralph Fiennes which is a good thing(I'm a fan, if you couldn't tell!)

So Q and MP worked for you but the Bond girl and bad guy didn't. :? I thought it'd be the other way round. :?

I like Ralph Fiennes as M, well I like the idea of it. Dench was new and exciting in 1994, she really had her best days as M in TWINE.

Nice!!
Quite a brief review though Katied, and I'm surprised you didn't like Bardem, as I thought he was one of the best villains in years.
I really liked the titles too, very cool. Adele's song fit perfectly.

Oh and I was LOLing at
Spoiler
Bond getting M's bulldog statue
. Wonder if he'll make a appearance in the next Bond film

Given that Eve is
Spoiler
such a lousy shot
it's probably good that she's
Spoiler
got an office job
:P

Yeah, a brief review, but I'm sure I'll think of more things that I liked-oh, Albert Finney. Liked his character. Liked him a lot.

I don't mind if others enjoy Craig as Bond.

But Flandry will never accept him as the iconic James Bond. Other former Craig critics may be won over to Craig as they want to be a part of the Bond series again but I'll be resisting and making a last stand against Craig like General Custard.

Maybe we need a forum for people who do not like Craig as Bond or his reboot movies. :D

I don't want to go along to get along either, Ale and Mazer were more positive about the film too. I think a bunch of people are going to be banned come Monday

I was surprised by "it's BJ problem", I thought you guys were close and this was responding to Stocks  . Its probably nothing ,Bj certainly didn't take it that way.
wasn't trying to get you to lower you review or bad mouth the film. 6 out of 10, not a issue for me.

When does your expanded review come out?

I certainly don't think Craig's "Iconic"-not in the way Sean,Roger or Pierce are-but he played Bond so he'll be regarded as such, irregardless.

Skyfall was a HUGE improvement over QOS,IMO.

He played Bond so well in this movie he'll be regarded as iconic?
Or they way he played Bond over all will make him iconic?

The way he played Bond will be considered iconic-in spite of the odd dud(QOS). Not by me, of course.

I do like that Craig's Bond in SF is written to be more professional than in the last two entries (naturally, since it's set six years after QOS). I didn't mind the impulsive and arrogant Bond in CR, but stretching that out to QOS was misguided, so it's nice that they didn't expand that interpretation further.

I agree. I hated the scene the scene in Casino Royale where Craig was dressed in a mac and beret said "oohhh Betty" and destroyed M's new flat.

Hmmm, I really liked Bardem as the villain actually, and Adele's theme song. I agree the opening sequence was kinda weird, as was the whole Home Alone set-up-traps-in-the-Skyfall-house thing. I also like Ralph Fiennes and think he'll be good as the new M. The new Q......eh, not sure yet, maybe. There was only one real Bond girl, and she was pretty weak. The new Moneypenny was OK. Also the movie was quite long - about 2 1/2 hours I think! Sheesh. There were some great moments though, like when we get to see the old Aston Martin back in action.

So despite Craig still not being a good Bond & other flaws, the movie was pretty great, and revived my Bond interest. B+ I say.

Also hopefully everyone knows all the spoilers already :|

Yeah, probably been long enough that all of those spoilers are all well known.

The Home Alone thing was mentioned on another thread and I have to agree! (reminds me:I have the DVD of Home Alone. Must watch it this Christmas. )
