With Craig's advancing age, this seems wise. Plus it means the Crag era will be over quicker. I hope they film them next year and release them around this time next year and the year after, and then hand over the role to Henry Cavill (or whoever).
DC doing more Bonds than Pierce is rather an insult if you ask me.

Well done Nick. Exactly.
I asked as research for my new sig line. I did have second thoughts about doing something so malicious, but it seems like payback for the way the pro-Craig mafia has spoiled my enjoyment of Bond. Besides, most of them have probably already seen the film, or heard the spoilers from someone who has. Still, if I can ruin one minion's day, it'll be worth it.

The end of the pre-titles sequence evokes Sherlock Holmes. Daniel Kleinman's titles has a moment that evokes Orson Welles (a bit that has been recycled many a number of fillmakers over the years, including Blake Edwards in 1967).

Make that 2  , mount of crap I've had from most of the pro craigsters, this is payback, oh why you no like him, he's da beest, your 40 years of bond are stupid, you're stupid and you smell funny , bond is meant to like both sides, he's open minded so he'll like a dude hitting on him (pukes).

...Yes I'm sure Ian Fleming intended for this all along, all those cocktails, women, all this to get to sliva.

As for babs wanting the guy from luther, he's a brillaint actor but for chrisakes he's not james bond, decline her offer, someone needs to put babs in a straightjacket, screw it find Me a woman, a director who's always wanting women to wear nothing and lets do this to babs, make a female james bond who doesn't really wear any clothes, has no style and gets it on with another woman, only fair right?.

Sweeney and ea: No offense to you guys but saying this is a new type of bond film and still defending it is just like the fans of the new re games now saying oh it's not resident evil anymore but it's still fun or it's a different type of game just doesn't cut it, imagine if batman was in an orchestra, didn't have the costume, did no crimework and was only called batman, this is what I see with creggs bond, an incredibly boring, not fun in the slightest, waxwork, wooden gollum of a secret agent (someone most of us wanted to be once), now I hate everything to do with bond, it's merely a takeaway today, bonds no longer take their time to be good they're just rushed out the door & I don't like seeing jeremy kyle in a bond film (since him and craig look like stepbrothers even the same facial expressions and yeah I'm a hard man blah blah etc).

People who saw die hard 5 trailer said despite how bad it looks it still looks a million years more entertaining then bond is today, eon really were stupid for taking the austin powers seriously (it was a joke and merely that) it parodied some parts of moores bond and the silly parts (but that was it) now they've turned it into a crappy, unremarkable piece of trash that's trying to be the next devinchi code (or some other bollocks like that), all these people and their stupid expectations for an oscar, I never cared about bonds personal life or his parents (and what's this crap about him suddenly becoming bond because his parents died?, am I missing something I thought he went to become a commander later then joined m16, how can anyone defend this crap, bond didn't become bond through revenge), nolan should be angry with a why so serious camp (twist) joker a q who looks like he was kidnapped from pc world or the it crowd, a moneypenny who's suddenly an expert in firearms (who's only supposed to be bonds secretary).

Will people applaud spiderman if he goes in wearing a tuxedo over his costumes, using gadgets and drinking vodka martinis next?, the world really has gone mad and finally this is all I see with craig as bond a rl mr burns.

Image

Again no offense you guys are free to like the film but this isn't the best bond film (or even a bond film), how many more so called bond films do we need for craig to become bond, imagine if tony stark took 3 films or bruce wayne to become their counterparts, most would leave, it's a joke and I don't understand why craigs so highly and incredibly overrated.

I do not care for bonds life story, his parents, how he was raised, it's just like When russell t davies sodomised doctor who and made him human, I don't watch either for their so called human parts, I liked doc who for being the weird quirky alien doctor who travels back in time and goes on adventues, and bond for the gadgets, women, suaveness, someone everyone wanted to be instead of an everyman today, the fast cars, over the top insane villains, witty one liners, vodka martinis, the real q and moneypenny and finally bond shouldn't be saving himself (oh woe ways me life is pain etc waah waah) I don't care for any of that just give Me James bloody bond, a guy who has a license to kill and enjoy life since it could end at any minute..this series really has become a soap nowdays & it's so serious and pretentious it's now laughable.

This is why the avengers was great it was both gritty and escapism, not pure seriousness that puts Me to sleep, the trend of everything having to be serious today has ruined the whole point of films to Me today, no variety, remake everything and lets make something that was great (ie team wolf) and turn it into a gritty teen romance werewolf crock of crap, no wonder we're in a recession today with this lack of crap.

Does Babs really want Idris Elba, or is this just talk? I know Naomie Harris said she thought he should be the first black Bond, but it's a long way from there to Babs saying it. Elba himself has said “It’s a rumour! …I just don’t want to be the black James Bond. Sean Connery wasn’t the Scottish James Bond, and Daniel Craig wasn’t the blue-eyed James Bond, so if I played him, I don’t want to be called the black James Bond.” Rather an ambiguous statement that. It could mean that he wouldn't want to play him, since it is inevitable that he would be referred to as the black James Bond. But then, how many times have you heard the story about how all those silly people objected when a blond actor was cast as Bond, and how they were proved ridiculous by the awesomeness of Daniel Craig's acting ability. Sounds like we're being softened up for the idea that anybody can play Bond; black, white, short, tall, young, old, it doesn't matter as long as they can act. Idris Elba is a brilliant actor, but I think actor Craig Bierko said it best on Twitter when he tweeted that he wants to be the first white Shaft, in response to these rumours.

In regards to what shaken not stirred said concerning Austin Powers, is that actually true? I've heard people mention that Austin Powers was one of the reasons for the change in direction, but I was never really certain if that was truly the case. If it is, then come on, it's only a spoof. There have been numerous spoofs of Bond long before Austin Powers, and it didn't matter. Anything that's really popular is going to get made fun of, just like Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. If Eon honestly thinks that Craig's darker portrayal of Bond is going to stop people from poking fun at the series, then they can think again. The fact that Craig has spent his first three films trying to become Bond, is more silly than some of the humour in the Moore Bond films.

Daniel Craig, in an interview this year, cited Austin Powers as one of the reasons. But I've never heard Barbara Broccoli, Michael G. Wilson or anyone at that level say it. I really didn't give DC's comments much credence, because he changes his story a lot, anyway.

One more thought about Fleming influences. Some DC fans say this is just how Fleming wrote the books.

But which Fleming?

The Fleming who wrote the Casino Royale torture scene? Or the Fleming who wrote about a Korean manservant with a deadly bowler and liked to eat cats (Goldfinger) or had Bond flight with a giant squid (Dr. No)? Fleming has some dramatic moments but his stories also are like successors to pulp stories of the early 20th Century.

It was used by many Craig supporters as well. DAD was so awful it was mocked in Goldmember despite DAD still filming while Goldmember was greeting the eager youth of the world in the comfort of their local cinema. _.//

When it is gritty and dark, When James is ready to visit Dr Shatterhand for a professional consultation then it is Fleming, none of that other stuff ever happened.

To me OHMSS was closer to the spirit of the book than CR was, so much of the book was jettisoned like Romana's room. CR left behind all except the scantiest hit of a skeleton: character name, occupation, boss, nationality. Professionalism, education, experience, taste, comradeship, the humanity of the character was replaced by a caricature that ran through walls and didn't give a d**n. A saucy tart gives Daniel's 007 a wink and he's rolled like it is his first rodeo. Thank god the giant squid wasn't brought for the final battle.

One other difference between Casino Royale the movie and CR the book. In the novel, Bond succeeded at his mission. In the movie, he failed. Quantum got the money back.

Major Spoilers

Plot
[spoil]MI6 agents James Bond—also known as 007—and Eve Moneypenny assist on a mission in Turkey in which an MI6 operative has been killed. A computer hard drive has been stolen containing details of all NATO agents operating undercover in terrorist organisations. Bond and Moneypenny chase the assailant, the French mercenary Patrice, and attempt to recover the disk. During the chase, Bond is shot in the shoulder. He nevertheless continues his pursuit until he is shot at long range by Moneypenny, who is attempting to kill Patrice. He is posted as "missing, presumed killed".

The head of MI6, M, comes under political pressure to retire during a meeting with the Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee, Gareth Mallory. On her return from the meeting, MI6 is hacked and an explosion occurs in the offices, killing a number of MI6 employees. On hearing the news of the attack, Bond returns to London. Shrapnel taken from his shoulder wound points to Patrice, and Bond is sent to Shanghai, where it is known the mercenary will shortly arrive.

Five of the agents' names are released, with the promise of more releases in the ensuing weeks. Bond finds and follows the Frenchman, and witnesses him carry out an assassination. The two men fight, and Patrice falls to his death before Bond can find out who he is working for. Searching the assassin's equipment, Bond finds a gambling chip, which leads him to a casino, where he is paid €4 million for the kill. Sévérine, who Bond saw earlier at the scene of the assassination, warns him that he is about to be killed, but promises to help him if he will kill her employer. Bond beats his attackers and joins Sévérine on her boat. They travel to an island, where they are taken prisoner by the crew and delivered to Sévérine's employer, Raoul Silva. Silva had previously worked with M and blamed her for his capture, torture and imprisonment by the Chinese. Silva kills Sévérine, but Bond overpowers his guards and captures Silva for return to the UK.

Back at MI6 headquarters Q attempts to decrypt Silva's laptop, but while he is accessing the computer it hacks the MI6 systems, allowing Silva to escape into the London Underground tunnel system. Pursued by Bond, Silva disguises himself as a policeman and attacks M during a public enquiry into her handling of the stolen hard drive. Bond arrives to join Mallory and Moneypenny in beating off Silva's attack, and M is hurried from the building by her aide, Bill Tanner. Bond drives M away from the scene in her car and, after exchanging it for his own Aston Martin DB5, drives her to his empty and remote childhood home in Scotland, Skyfall. He instructs Q to leave an electronic trail for Silva to follow, a decision supported by Mallory.

At Skyfall, Bond and M are met by Kincade, the gamekeeper to the Bond family estate. The trio are only lightly armed, but they improvise a series of booby traps. When Silva's men arrive, Bond, M and Kincade fight off the first assault, although M is wounded. Silva arrives by helicopter with a second wave, and Bond sends M and Kincade off through a secret tunnel at the back of a priest hole to a chapel on the grounds. The second assault uses firepower from the helicopter, and Silva throws incendiary grenades into the building. Bond detonates a stick of dynamite with two gas canisters and retreats down the same tunnel as M and Kincade. The resulting blast causes the helicopter to crash, killing a number of Silva's men. Silva sees Kincade's torch beam, follows and arrives at a frozen lake ahead of Bond. Bond attacks Silva's sole remaining follower, and the two fall through the ice, where Bond kills him. Silva meanwhile makes his way to the chapel and forces his gun into M's hand where he begs her to kill them both. Bond arrives and kills Silva, but M collapses from her earlier wound and dies. Her position as head of MI6 is taken by Mallory, while Moneypenny decides not to return to the field as an agent.[/spoil]

Skyfall has these moments too though (the fantastical side of Fleming). The dragons at the floating restaurant are very Fleming, particularly when one eats a villain.

This plot is mundane and a mess. I see no enjoyment in MI6 being attacked again, just like in GE by 006, except this time M is terminated and a male is put back in her place at the end. NO escapism here except the exit doors of the theatre halfway through. They wanted Dench out and they removed the last shred of Pierce's Bond cruelly.

I've been seeing comments on other forums about some bad CGI effects in Skyfall, particularly when it comes to the dragons. I'll have to see the film myself to make a proper judgement, but if the CGI effects in Skyfall are really as bad as some claim, then the filmmakers obviously haven't learned their lesson. With all these high film costs and fancy technology, you would figure that the effects would be much better. I don't like CGI in Bond at all, but if they must use it, then they could at least try to make it look better than a cheap video game.

Skyfall has these moments too though (the fantastical side of Fleming). The dragons at the floating restaurant are very Fleming, particularly when one eats a villain.
I'm not sure what people are on about with the CGI in Skyfall. I never noticed any of it (although I'm guessing it was used).
