Colour me surprised. Did he also reveal that the new Bond girl was a strong, independent woman and not just there for decoration like all those other Bond girls? The Sweeney wrote:During a news conference in Istanbul, director Sam Mendes revealed that the new James Bond film will explore a more emotional side of the character, adding that the movie will return to author Ian Fleming’s original creation.

Egad! What a frumpy band of miscreants. One Venus de Milo and three people who'd be happier in the back of a Midtown bus. Reminiscent of the Craig and Eva bland tourist photos before CR.
First sign they are heading for trouble is when the director feels it is necessary to get out ahead of the movie to lecture the audience on what and who Bond is. It's the 50th anniversary, the audience already knows who Bond is all Midas has to do is deliver him, looks like providing Bond is not his agenda.
Mendes going on about the dark tortured Bond is fine, clearly this what he and Danno take away from some of the books and short stories, but what about the rest of the books? The 95% not about inward reflections on the dastardly nature of his job. The cultured and refined man, the man of honor, the connoisseur? When you're out there giving an interview like Dalton used to you're asking for trouble.

Ugh.
It's like Living Daylights is the only Bond story they know.
