TMG lands 'Hobbit, 'Skyfall'
MGM inks German-lingo free TV deal

By Ed Meza
BERLIN -- Herbert Kloiber's Tele Muenchen Group has acquired "The Hobbit" and James Bond film "Skyfall" as part of a five-year free TV rights deal inked with MGM for German-speaking Europe.

In addition to Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "The Hobbit: There and Back Again," and Sam Mendes' "Skyfall," the agreement also grants TMG the exclusive, free TV rights to more than 200 feature films and TV series for German-speaking Europe.

This includes all new MGM productions released theatrically in Germany, including Kevin James starrer "The Zookeeper," which grossed $16 million at the German box office, as well as the previous 22 Bond films, "The Terminator," "Robocop," "The Pink Panther," starring Steve Martin, and the hit MTV series "Teen Wolf."

"This agreement with MGM is a great start into 2012 for us," said Kloiber, TMG's chief exec.

"Our five-year deal with TMG marks a significant growth for MGM's business in Europe," added Roma Khanna, MGM's president, television group and digital.
