Forster turns down 'Bond 23' offer

Post by CaptainLewis »

Quantum Of Solace director Marc Forster has said that he turned down the chance to direct the next James Bond movie.

Speaking to MTV, the filmmaker suggested that his ideas for the next movie aren't in the franchise's best interests.

"They asked me if I wanted to," he said. "I'll never say never again, but at this point I would say no...For me, I wanted to take it to a harder and darker place, but now that that journey I've gone on has succeeded, I feel like the next one can take it to a bit more humorous place again."

Forster added that the next Daniel Craig spy outing "should take it in a lighter and more humorous way, maybe add a few more girls and a bit more sex - all that kind of stuff".

Danny Boyle, who was touted for the Bond director's chair, recently ruled out helming the series's 23rd entry.

Yay. Nice to hear some good news for a change. Though it's disturbing that he was even offered it. Have EON learned nothing?

Marc Forster:
"For me, I wanted to take it to a harder and darker place, but now that that journey I've gone on has succeeded, I feel like the next one can take it to a bit more humorous place again."
I'm not certain it succeeded as the movie was criticized. Also, would he have the power to change the tone of the script?

Did Forster ruin the movie? Would it have been awful even if a different director had directed QOs in a less controversial way? I think it would have been.

I don't think so. it still would have suffered from script problems, but it wouldn't have been as bad.

I do believe this is a recycled interview. I do not think Forster intend to imply the Bond producers contacted him again recently about directing Bond 23

Is Forster directing a second Bond film wise?I think not.

Compared to other directors who have been in the buisness for years, Forster is a newcomer, and it shows.

The rumours have evaporated recently but there was speculation that Iain Softley was being lined up as the director of Bond 23. Softley is British and directed the following films;

Backbeat (1994)
Hackers (1995)
The Wings of the Dove (1997)
K-PAX (2001)
The Skeleton Key (2005)
Inkheart (2008)

I've only seen Backbeat out of those, so I can't really comment on his suitability or otherwise to direct a Bond film. But I really can't see them assigning a director this early in the production process.

Proof of Life (2000) (writer/executive producer)
The Bourne Identity (2002) (screenwriter)
The Bourne Supremacy (2004) (screenwriter)
The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) (screenwriter)
Michael Clayton (2007) (writer/director)
Duplicity (2009) (writer/director)
State of Play (2009) (writer)

Big f**king surprise. OK, I know it's just an internet rumour, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they were pursuing Gilroy. I don't think Babs will be satisfied until she's wearing a suit made from Paul Greengrass's skin.

CinemaBlend did predict Marc Forster for QoS long before he was announced but Gilroy doesn't really seem like someone who needs to make a James Bond film to keep busy. We can see what Eon are planning though - more of the same. I honestly think Babs & MGW have forgotten how to make James Bond films. Granted, Babs didn't know much to begin with but it's a depressing 007 era to live through all the same.

Well, since the reboot was his idea, and something he pestered Cubby for as far back as TLD, I'm happy with him being sidelined, before he comes up with any more bright ideas.

But judging from the job Babs is doing,is she any better at it?The time is rapidly approaching where the Bond films will be considered a laughing stock, thanks to those two.

Thank god Cubby isn't alive to see the mess they're making
