But the elites love illegal immigration because it provides them with a pool of cheap labor that they can pay sub-minimum wages to. As someone who emigrated to the US legally, I found more and more hurdles placed in my way, and I'm convinced it's because there are powerful forces who want to make legal immigration more difficult because they want to encourage people to enter the States illegally.
I didn't think of it in that way. But then thoes politicians adn elites have enough scandals where their personal hired help was illegal. Sad but true some one wanting to enter the US legally has a harder time. Some people I knew that were working their way to being a citizen were told by others (immigrants) to just leave when they are suppsoed to and come back through mexico. Thankfully they were intent on being here legaly but they had a harder time and it makes me upset they will be the ones hurt under any immigration bill where their place in line is given away to people don't necessarily want and didn't respect our country enough to try for the right way. Turnign a blind eye is where we get human abuses, we feel bad for the underprivileged so we leave them to mercy of scum, on both sides of the boarder. It is like the reasoning behind knowing someone beats their kids but we don't act because if we do it means we take their dad to jail, so who is going to take care for the kids then.

Thats good. last quake considered major was in our neck of teh woods was back in the 70;s. We get a trembler from time to time. real low in the 2 point somthign range most people do not even notice it. the day I fear is the one where California does get the big one. Inevitable I know we have prepared for it but I am not as confident the government will be quick and as able to respond properly after the mess with Katrina and BP.

This last quake wasn't that bad. Here, it's just felt like one jolt and that was it.The one we had on Easter, which was in Calexico, near the border went on for AGES and was pretty big.

Solar Tsunami to Strike Earth Tonight

Post by Harvey Wallbanger »

Image
The Sun's surface erupted early Sunday morning, blasting tons of plasma into interplanetary space -- directly towards the Earth.

That wall of ionized atoms should hit the planet tonight, say scientists, creating a geomagnetic storm and a spectacular light show and possibly threatening satellites in orbit.

"This eruption is directed right at us and is expected to get here early in the day on Aug. 4th," said Leon Golub of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. "It's the first major Earth-directed eruption in quite some time."

The solar eruption, called a coronal mass ejection, was spotted by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, which captures high-definition views of the sun at a variety of wavelengths. SDO was launched in February and peers deep into the layers of the sun, investigating the mysteries of its inner workings.

"We got a beautiful view of this eruption," Golub said. "And there might be more beautiful views to come if it triggers aurorae."

Views of aurorae are usually associated with Canada and Alaska, but even skywatchers in the northern U.S. mainland are being told they can look toward the north Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for rippling "curtains" of green and red light.

When a coronal mass ejection reaches Earth, solar particles stream down our planet's magnetic field lines toward the poles. In the process, the particles collide with atoms of nitrogen and oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere, which then glow, creating an effect similar to miniature neon signs.

The interaction of the solar particles with our planet's magnetic field has the potential to create geomagnetic storms, or disturbances in Earth's magnetosphere. And while aurorae are normally visible only at high latitudes, they can light up the sky even at lower latitudes during a geomagnetic storm.

The solar particles could also affect satellites, though scientists think that possibility is remote. Orbital Sciences Corp. believe a similar blast may have been knocked its Galaxy 15 satellite permanently out of action.

The sun's activity usually ebbs and flows on a fairly predictable cycle. Typically, a cycle lasts about 11 years, taking roughly 5.5 years to move from a solar minimum, a period of time when there are few sunspots, to peak at the solar maximum, during which sunspot activity is amplified.

The last solar maximum occurred in 2001. The latest minimum was particularly weak and long- lasting. The most recent solar eruption is one of the first signs that the sun is waking up and heading toward another maximum.

On a serious note, the Mosque at Ground Zero typifies everything that is wrong with the Obama Admin, this has gotten out of control all because he didn't show any real leadership. He gave a the crackpots christian extremist a world wide stage and by the same token gave the muslims extremest a card to play. That shady guy who wants to build the Ground Zero Mosque basically threatened us if we don't let him have his way.

Christians, Muslims, Hindus Buddhist and atheists are against building a Mosque there. First few weeks it was talked about moderate muslims in canada said it was a provocation not a mosque built with peaceful intent. but to obama itis the Christians, which he is supposed to be one of, who need to back down and roll over and play dead. He will gladly step up to defend Islam but not Christianity. I hope he enjoys his one term.

The Pope is visiting Britain.

Yesterday at Westminster Abbey the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Pope conducted a joint service. In Parliament the Pope gave a speech and on the platform were John Major and Margaret Thatcher sitting next to each other and Gordon Brown and Tony Blair sitting alongside each other!

He didn't "defend Islam", he defended the First Amendment. Whatever the Christian fundamentalists would have you believe, freedom of religion extends to Muslims as well as Christians.

Have you seen Charlie Brooker's article about the "Ground Zero mosque" (which isn't at Ground Zero and isn't a mosque)?

Though having said that, I think he should have kept out of it altogether. It's not the job of the President to show "leadership" in what is essentially a local planning dispute. The First Amendment matters, but so does the Tenth.

Ed Miliband defeats older brother in race to be Labour leader

Ed Miliband defeats older brother in race to be Labour leader

Younger of the Miliband brothers is crowned Labour leader on the eve of the party's annual conference in Manchester

Ed Miliband has beaten his older brother David by a wafer-thin margin to become Labour's 18th elected leader.

The result was announced in Manchester on the eve of the Labour's annual conference, and defied the odds, which until recently were in David Miliband's favour.

Ed Miliband, the MP for Doncaster North, was first elected to parliament in 2005, and was not initially expected to stand against his brother.

Both insisted their relationship could withstand the rough and tumble of the leadership race, though negative briefings by the two camps began to suggest the pressure of being the two front-runners was beginning to show.

Ed Miliband also beat Ed Balls, the shadow education secretary, Andy Burnham, the shadow health secretary, and Diane Abbott, a leftwing backbencher.David Miliband must now decide whether to serve in the shadow cabinet under his younger brother. Defeat will come as a blow: he has long harboured ambitions to lead the party.

Doubts surfaced about whether David Miliband, who had long been talked of as future leader by the Blairite wing of the party, would realise his potential after failing to challenge Gordon Brown for the leadership in 2007 and again, in 2009.

On the later occasion, he decided not to follow his friend James Purnell, who quit the cabinet in protest at Brown's leadership.

After Brown stood down, David Miliband made clear his determination by being the first to declare his intention to stand, before Ed Miliband added himself to list of contenders a week later and cast himself as an Obama-style "change" candidate.

Ed Miliband built up a support base as the summer progressed, and secured the high-profile backing of the country's three largest trade unions – Unite, Unison, and the GMB.

Earlier this week, it emerged that senior advisers to the two Miliband camps had held a secret planning meeting at which they discussed what role each might play in each others' cabinet when one of them was declared today.

The leadership of Ed Miliband is likely to be defined by his approach to the deficit.Harriet Harman, who has been acting leader since Brown stood down, has suggested that Labour's approach to the deficit needs to be reviewed.

Balls has won over many critics with his argument that Labour's plans to halve the deficit within four years were a mistake and not deliverable. The shadow education secretary, who previously served as a Treasury adviser to Brown, argues that the economic climate means the party must set out a longer timetable for reducing the deficit.

Do they clone the Millibands? Why doesn't David Miliband go and lead the Conservatives? At the next election every party could have a Milliband leading it.

That way, they could just issue everyone with a generic "VOTE MILLIBAND" poster that could apply to everyone from Ed Milliband (Labour) to Tarquin Orangutang Milliband (Monster Raving Loony).
